Coca Cola bottles?? What an amazingly absurd analogy. Do you buy Coke bottles, empty? No. You buy them full and then empty them--the complete opposite of iPhone memory. Do you have to upgrade Coke bottles, and are prevented from doing so if they are merely half-empty? No.

Most people know car analogies suck. But the "Coke Bottle" is a new low.

I assume you have never encountered someone with a 16GB iPhone who dared to use it, and now can't even update to the latest iOS due to not having a enough room (enough room being just about empty). What is really "totally stupid" is Apple selling a device with such limited memory, at such a high price, and no way to back it up with Apple's services without paying even more to add to the woefully inadequate included iCloud storage. The service that has had 5 GB storage for the last half decade.

Sorry, didn't mean to make you confused/angry, just a statement. People buy what they need. Maybe I should use a car next time I wanna be funny

The thing is most average people don't know what they need. They think, for $600 dollars, they are getting more than they need. To find out a month or two later they can't take any more pictures or update their iPhone is frustrating for them. And the cost to Apple is so insignificant that it is disturbing it has taken this long. Indeed it could be argued that even 32GB is too small, if you consider it will be 10 years worth of iPhones this fall. Displays, processors, sensors, etc., have all increased at a much larger rate than memory in those years.

I really do hope the "analyst" is right about this one. That would be a game changer and make me upgrade a lot sooner.

My friend left to Android for a variety of reasons. These reasons come down to what seems like really great disappointment with Apple not being progressive anymore. This whole 32GB or 64GB debate is part of the Apple nonsense. With their new Android device, my friend can open up the sim port and also add in extra storage expanding on the base level. As a huge Apple fan for so long, since the original iPods and earlier, it was a decision they had been contemplating for a long while. :(:apple:
As an alternative to microSD card storage expansion, just buy the damn 64GB iPhone already!
That alone. I doubt it. However, it it's part of several points of disappointment... I could see it being a tipping point.
Yet it's the only point ever getting mentioned, over and over again. If there was a complaint other than price, I'm sure we would have a name for it. A "variety of reasons" or "several points" doesn't cut it.

I do wonder how long Apple can keep pushing a 16GB phone (which is more like 14GB in real life after iOS and whatnot) given that it'll shoot 4K video, surely '16GB' isn't really sufficient or practical these days.

But I do not for a minute believe Apple will drop the 16GB for the 32GB and keep the same price point. Also I think the jump between 32GB and 128GB and dropping the 64GB at the same time is too big of a gap for Apple to say "For $100 you can have four times the storage of the 32GB"

I've got a 32GB 5S right now, my next iPhone will either be 64GB or 128GB depending on what's available.

This is one of the reasons why a friend of mine, a long time Apple evangelist, left the iOS platform to Android this week.
Apple and all the nonsense games it plays with customers...
It's 2016. We should be starting at
64GB. Not 32GB.
Um, why? I don't even fill up 32 GB, and I highly doubt most people use up anywhere close to 64 GB. 32 GB is perfectly fine imo.

Yes storing pictures may well be an over estimation.
No reason not to put in 64GB, the cost is negligible.
Most people don't store a large number of pics on their device FYI. As for no reason not to put in the 64GB, the cost isn't negligible at the volume they have. 32 GB is enough for the majority of the population

On an iPhone maybe. However on my Note 5, and because I have the Gear VR, I would have preferred to have gotten the 64gb... Hindsight is 20/20 :)

Sure flaw600. Photos video audio apps messages that contain these items. They're all on the size increase.

It's "rumoured" they are adding more functionality in iOS 10 to the Photos app (more features like the iPhoto app for iOS they pulled a couple of years ago).

Whilst I'm happy with my iPad Pro 9.7" it was a slap in the face it cost £100 more for half the storage (compared to iPad Air 2).
iOS never had an iPhoto app'. You're referring to the Mac

You're not the majority of the population (remember, the majority no longer download new apps, and only sometimes get new games). VR does not exist on the iPhone

I'm not really sure what your point is. If you're saying these are the reasons Apple is upping the base storage, I'd agree with you. If you mean these are why the base storage should be 64 GB, I'd disagree with you.

Anecdotal post gets an anecdotal reply ;)

It wasn't an anecdotal post. When the storage options were 16, 32, 64, the highest selling iPhone model was still 32. People wanted 32 far more than they wanted 64. As for my thing about app downloading, that was from a report 9To5 and I think MR published

I agree with everyone that 16gb is pretty ridiculous in today's world, but there are some people like me as an example that don't need more storage. I've had every iPhone (1-6) so far and always order the 16gb as I don't buy apps, store music or take many pics/videos. I always have about 6gbs free on my phone.

16GB is useless. I unfortunately have a 5C 16GB and I have 400 songs, 50 apps, and no space left :(
