And a $50-100 price increase.

See iPad Pro.

Why not let it be a truly PRO device and put in a microSD card and let the customer add more storage? I mean, a 128GB card runs for $50 but the internal upgrade option from going to low-end to high is $200+...

nevermind

This article actually does not shock me. I think when we think of storage, we think Music, Apps, video's/photo's, ect.

But what some do not realize, is we need more storage capacity due to software updates. They consume a portion of your memory, to the point where 16GB is really useless anymore.

If Apple holds its price point steady, it could do well. But what they did with the iPad Pro $100.00 Upsell was not acceptable, for a base of 32 GB. That stopped potential buyers to hold off from
Purchasing the 9.7 Inch.

If dual-lenses is the best "innovation" that Apple can come up with then the company is doomed. Under Tim Cook's stewardship Apple has invented practically nothing new. It's no wonder the stock price is dropping.

Are you saying that Apple's product line is causing you to become fatigued?

For me personally? Without a doubt. My first smart phone was the 4s. I got that at launch. My daughter got an iPad 2 around the same time. The "wow" factor was just off the charts for booth of us. But, since then, it's slowly just eroded to the point where I don't really care anymore. It's a phone that goes online etc. It's not a special thing anymore. There's no more "magic", as Steve infamously said not long before passing away.

I place the blame on the people in charge. It's just over saturation. Too many "me-too" products and I really think that's stretched them too far creatively. When you have too many different products and now, a freakin' car that you're working on, you're laser like focus is going to naturally suffer.

It doesn't seem as thought the ennui you are feeling is due to Apple having too many iPhones to choose from (or the fact that Apple also makes computers and tablets and is rumored to be working on a car). You will probably never get that initial rush from a smart phone again from Apple or anyone else. Does the sight of an iPhone 4s cause your heart to beat faster? It's just a less capable earlier version of the phones Apple sells now. It's a phone that goes online and doesn't do it as well as an iPhone 6s.

The first computer I ever programmed was a handheld "pocket computer" that my Dad bought some time in 1980. Before I used it, I just didn't get excited about computers. After I used it, I was hooked. I read the manual from cover to cover (he wouldn't let me take the computer with me). I bought computer magazines that were more than half an inch thick and read them over and over, including all the ads.

I can't get as excited about computers these days (though I can't live without them). I don't blame Tim Cook or Jony Ive for that. Steve Jobs also failed to give me that initial thrill. He didn't have that much magic in him! Even though these computers are millions of times more powerful than that PC-1. I can't get the magic of that first computer experience back. Before he died almost ten years ago, my father gifted me with the PC-1. If i could find the button-sized batteries to power it, it would probably still work. But what would I do with a computer that has less than 1K of RAM?

I suspect that even if you desaturated your own life by abstaining from using smart phones for a couple of years, and then employed laser-like focus to find a used iPhone 4s, you wouldn't be able to recreate the experience of your first smart phone. It's not how it works.

I agree with your sentiment that the "first" anything is always going to leave an indelible mark that can't be replicated again but that's exactly what I meant when I called out Apple's leadership. The reason the iPhone enthralled me so much is because it was a brand new, innovative device and something I had never experienced before. Where are those devices now? The Apple Watch is the only attempt we've seen since Steve's passing and it fell flat on it's face. They're too busy trying to sell the same thing to the same people over and over again. They're more concerned with making the wheel roll a little more precisely than reinventing it. That's my argument.

It's funny that you got that feeling about the iPhone 4s, which wasn't the first iPhone. It was the fifth iteration. I started with the original iPhone and by the 4s I was comfortably in a two year upgrade cycle. The 4s wasn't exciting enough for me to consider an early upgrade from the iPhone 4.

Since Steve Jobs died Apple hasn't introduced a completely new type of product (after subtracting the one they did). When he was around they did it every six or seven years like clockwork. What has changed? Other than the one you don't want to count (the Apple Watch) and the one you don't want them to do (the Apple car) they haven't done anything. When are they gonna stop trying new things and get back to innovating?

I care about profit margin because lower margin means possibly lower product price. producing an iPhone costs less than $200 yet the price is three times than that. I would not think such profit margin is "small".
What I say "we need to do more with less" doesn't mean CPU performance should stall and we finish our tasks on slower CPU. Instead, we need CPU do more but spend less time to finish task and use less electricity. Does this make any sense to you?
I am not a shareholder. But even if I am, I would still say the same.
That's great and all but competition keeps the prices in check, not wishful Apple consumers. If you really want to make a difference, but android. When enough people do that, Apple will respond. But for myself and every Apple user I know, of course we would take a discount but I don't want Apple to skimp out on anything in order to bring in a new market.

As far as CPUs, no I don't understand what you're saying when you consider how fast and power efficient iOS and Apple hardware runs at. Every 8 core processor announcement from Android makers sounds like step in the wrong direction for battery life to me.

Customers are voting with their feet. Apple's gluttony of recent years is very present and customers do not appreciate that. I know people who have left iPhone for and Android device, one this recent week. Lower innovation and insane pricing has been the recent experience. The formula should be insane innovation and lower pricing, or at least, more accessible pricing. If the product ain't up to speed, customers will leave. This is basic stuff.
Your anecdotal stories don't care much when Apple themselves say the Android to iPhone migration has never been bigger. What do you expect them to do when they have the best customer satisfaction?

Why not 64gb, 128gb, and 256gb ? o_O

Remember all the formerly 32GB folks who bought in at mid-tier? Well, since Apple gave them 64GB, a lot of them will have grown into 64GB, which now makes 32GB too small. Thus, the mid tier folks stay mid tier and don't go to low tier. Make it 64/128/256, low mid tier folks will all make a mass exodus to low tier. The same will happen at high tier to mid tier but not as much since the high tier also has a population of folks who simply want the maximum storage and will remain at high tier.

Software updates these days are no bigger than before (at least for the last 2-3 years) and you can update through Itunes so not sure what your talking about.

Premium brand. Premium money.
Premium brand? Most of apples competitors now have equal or better build quality with equal or better components. Even the software (Android) Seems to be a lot more stable and better performing.

The competition have caught up and apple have nothing to justify higher prices now, other than marketing and a good fanbase that will buy anything they produce.

Well that's a good thing. I'm simply saying once really strong supporters of Apple are abandoning it.

Your argument applies to all premium brands. Think Fararri, Lamborghini, Gucci etc. All those are premium brands that have less costly alternatives with the same or better build quality. But just like Apple, they will remain premium brands. And will still command premium money.

Your phone got stolen? I'm sorry to hear that. Why can't everyone just leave each other in peace?

Thanks and yea it was last year. My 6 Plus was fairly new top oh the line and it was in broad daylight a block from a joke of a police station :/

I was quite attached to it :/

32gb not enough and 128gb is to much
apples way of raising prices
Don't expect to much from the 7 and you won't be disappointed

Looks like that's a matter of opinion.

32gb isn't enough but I hate iPhones as media players.

mkv-to-iphone-6s-plus.jpg

- No multiple video codec support
- No expandable storage
- No file system / file manager app
- No torrent apps without jailbreak
- Can't download videos using Safari
- Dependency on iTunes to handle media
- No ability to mass add, delete, or move files on device
- iTunes Store doesn't have all the films I want to watch.

If I want to watch an obscure foreign film, oh well. Tough luck. Even if I am willing to pay for them, iTunes doesn't even have half of the films I want to watch. Limited selection like Netflix. Doesn't have all the books I want to read.

So I turn to piracy and torrent apps. Call us thieves, but why should I have be limited to movies I want to watch? Apple are probably the biggest scam artists there is. Enjoying downloading from torrents and hassle-free.

Have Deadpool and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in MKV. Maverick, Let It Ride, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, History of the World Part I, and Some Like It Hot in AVI. Zero worries if they can be played on Android.

Competition caught up as back as 2012-2013. A 32gb iPhone 7 is enough for me because I only plan to use iPhone for light video playback. My photos and music combined only eats up 10gb.

Not expecting much for it. Overpriced and overrated if you ask me. But just for the hell of it since I haven't really used an iPhone as a daily driver since 2011, I will just go for it. Complete the mobile OS trilogy.

Saved so much thanks to $30 WP and Android phones. Made profit selling four Lumia 640's. Let me splurge a little. Is it a waste of money? Yeah. Ridiculous to pay for phones higher than $200-$300 when they drop below 50% of its original value in 18 months. Am I buying it just for kicks? Sure. Why not? Might sell within a 1-2 yrs for something better or just keep the damn thing.

I'm shocked people are STILL posting in this old thread  that said onto the replies

In what universe or for what reasons do you find "128 GB Too much" especially given many at some point have been pining as of late for 256 GB ( I admit myself I wouldn't turn down the idea of 256 GB )

Looks like that's a matter of opinion.

Lol nice comeback

First off no offense but I find it both odd yet interesting you seem to despise their products or mediums yet have 3200+ posts on a site primarily dedicated to them.

On your point of "No ability to mass move, delete" could you be more specific please? What device, software and version are you trying to use? I'm able to do this so that's why I ask.

On the storage front first you say 32GB isn't enough then you say it is? No offense but was there a typo? If not you sound bipolar and aren't making sense o_O:confused:

Props to you for at least giving it a go

I think he is right. Competition has caught up and Apple is no longer what it used to be.
The hardware has caught up in a lot of ways, but I don't agree with the suggestion that Android software is faster and more stable. The article I quoted describes how Army Special Ops Command is switching to iOS because of stability and performance issues with Android.

For a stop gap phone, 32GB isn't too bad if people plan on getting the iPhone 2017 model. For a 2 yr gap, it will be interesting to see how big the updates are from here on out. 128 is aplenty. 256 is massive. I wish iPhones offered SD slots. It would go a long way towards keeping costs down since you wouldn't have to spend a $100 or more on a storage upgrade. That's what makes the Moto X 2015 16GB a popular low cost option these days.
