This is exactly why I'm skipping the 6S. Just the iPhone 6 with a bow on it like every other other s model.

You're obviously unclear on the concept. Each S model has substantial performance upgrades and frequently an added novel new feature. The S version is what the non-S version should be.

This can only mean more iPhone-bending videos on YouTube. Yay!
If even you can think of it, Apple knows better to use stronger material. I like it thin and small and I don't care that much about battery life that much. If they keep the same battery capacity, it will be great! Most people are near an outlet or having a mobile battery in their bags. Yeah! Let's go thinner!

You are wise.

Just saying what I see. I also have an iPod Touch 5 (6.1 mm) which is thinner than the iPhone 5 (7.6 mm) and the iPhone 6 (6.9 mm) and it's not too thin at all, in fact it's an absolute pleasure to use.

For whom, Apple is making things thinner? I don't think anyone wants their products any thinner than it is, especially in exchange of battery life. I wonder if Ive actually uses iPhone.

The majority of people who buy iPhones.

You may think MR forums represent a large demographic of iPhone users but we really don't. I know of at least 50 people with iPhones and none of them use this site (No offence MR, I'm just making a point )

Most people don't even care for the A9 chip, or 2GB RAM, or an mLED screen or whatever, they just want the latest thing, and if the latest Apple thing isn't thinner and more beautiful than the last then they are not going to buy it.

I don't like it any more than you do, but it's the truth unfortunately. We are a vocal minority on here.

Well, I have no idea why are they so much after the thickness. Or thinness, rather.

How far do they want to go? 2mm or what?

If they just kept the phones at same thickness as let's say iP5 then we could have much better battery life, for example.

I always skip two versions and I'm supposed to be getting iPhone 7 next year but if it really goes down this road I might as well just stick with my 5S as long as I can. Still think that 5 was the best model yet. Design-wise, not performance-wise, of course.

The non-S versions also add novel features and performance upgrades. The iPhone 5S had TouchID, but the iPhone 6 added Apple Pay, the larger screen, and OIS on the 6+.

I'm not knocking the S versions, but I'm on the non-S versions, and since I only update every two years, I don't get the S features until the next non-S version rolls around (keeping the S features and adding more). If you're on the S version, I envy you for a year, but not enough to join you. Enjoy force touch. I'll get it (maybe even improved a bit) in 2016 on my new, svelte iPhone 7.

The question is: Why? The iPhone 6 is more slippery than a freshly caught fish. Why make it thinner. Make it easier to handle and put in a higher capacity battery.

There is a lot of misunderstanding of the mobile phone market in this thread.

People *do* prefer thinner phones and they *are* generally satisfied with current battery life.

The iPhone 6 and 6+ have sold like hot cakes. (BTW, these are both thinner and have better battery life than the 5s.) If you think that's only because there's no other choice, consider Android users. They could choose a thick, long-lasting phone... but rarely do.

To claim thinness is "form over function" is silly for a mobile device. Form *is* function, to a significant degree.

Some people think Ive and Apple are "obsessed" with thinness, but it's clearly the people buying phones and computers that are the ones who want this.

Well, I do own the iPhone 6 as I wanted an iOS device with a larger screen, but buying the phone doesn't make me ineligible to complain about the poor battery life and thinness taken way too far. I don't buy the iPhone because it's that thin, I buy it as it's the only one that will run iOS, even though it's too thin and its battery life leaves much room for improvement.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I agree with you 100% and I want an iPod Touch, though I only use my iPhone 6 currently.

It astonishes me greatly that a 1mm change is newsworthy. I'm not slamming the site with that. It's more astonishing that Apple has managed to set those sorts of expectations.

Take a look at a ruler (for those in the states, you may have to search for one marked in metric on the other side). 1mm is really, really minute. Hell, in a lot of my projects (depending on what part you're talking about), it's well inside the margin of error.

My iPad Air 2 distorts when I hold the thing the wrong way. I'm worried I'm going to damage the screen permanently eventually. I'm tired of this thinness crap.

Does anyone truly care at this point? Haven't we reached a point where phones are thin enough to not be a nuisance?

I think the point is that when you're talking about something 10cm thick, one mm here or there isn't much to shout about, only 1%, but when something is already 7mm thin, shaving 1mm off is over 10% thinner

Many of them do. I could go and get a warranty replacement but I don't have the patience to keep exchanging iPads or risk getting one even worse. This problem wouldn't exist at all if hey would lay off their obsession with thin devices.

Yeah, a guy like you I have no argument with. I get it, I'm in the same boat, just the S version boat. I don't feel the need for a new phone every year. Every other year is fine with me, and when I DO update two years later, it's always a more substantial upgrade than the people that get a new iPhone every year get.

It's been nearly two years, and at some level it still feels just like I got the thing. So every year we leapfrog each other. I'm okay with that.

Lol, Same story every two years.

Everyone changes their mind when they see one and pick it up for the first time.

I'm one of the hold-outs. :p

Looking forward to something more considered and ergonomic than the iP6.

Really? You have heard non-Macrumors iPhone users actually stating they want thinner phones? I have not heard one person who actually said "I wish this was thinner" They say it's beautiful and such, but not because it's thin. I HAVE heard of many iPhone users saying that I hope my phone lasts longer. I think most people (tech forumers or not) would welcome significant increases in battery life more so than reducing the thickness of a phone. I don't think we're in the minority in that regard.
