Really? You have heard non-Macrumors iPhone users actually stating they want thinner phones? I have not heard one person who actually said "I wish this was thinner
I'm not convinced either.

Keynote: "We increased the RAM, the speed, improved the camera, battery life is now three days, Siri can read your mind, phone is waterproof and dustproof, and storage on cheapest model is now 128 GB."
General public: "Meh, 7.1 mm is way too thick."

I would like thinner and smaller. I don't care about battery, it never runs out on me, i'm always near chargers at home, in the office, in the car, even walking around its easy enough to have a backup battery hidden in your bag which can charge your phone tens of times. Not sure why everyone has so many issues with battery unless they're all camping with no chance of reaching a charge for two days at a time...

Yes, camping. And longer hiking and biking trips(running back country GPS). And inter-continental trips.

A backup battery works for this situations but it would be better without. Some people have more active lives.

Lol, Same story every two years.

1: MR article says the next iPhone will be thinner
2: Forum members say iPhone is thin enough already, moans about battery life
3: iPhone releases, thinner, lighter and with batter battery life
4: Everyone buys one anyway and is happy with their purchase

Everyone changes their mind when they see one and pick it up for the first time.

It's a good phone. But I'm not happy with it. Because it's too thin and difficult to pick up.

First; it's "they're" as in THEY ARE, not "their". If you're going to call me stupid, at least get your grammar right.

Second; this is Apple... it's like YOU'RE new to how they have run THEIR business for decades. If you don't like how they practice business, take it elsewhere. You have Google and Microsoft to buy products from if you don't like how Apple does it.

Third; as many have stated, my wife being one of them, not everyone needs more than 16gb. That and they are pushing their cloud services.

How is it that you are so ignorant to the matter that other people's needs are not the same as yours? The "cheapskates" are the ones that cry and complain that Apple is "screwing them over", they're not screwing you over, they're here to sell you a product, not give you what you want for the minimal amount of money you're willing to shell out. You are welcome to NOT buy their 16gb phone cause it's "under spec'd" or buy their 64gb and 128gb option for 100-200 bucks more. It's pretty simple. Just because you and I know the cost to build a device doesn't mean they have to set the market to our knowledge. If it wasn't selling at that tier, then they wouldn't build it at that Spec. /economics-101-lesson.
A few things I've learned over the years:
It takes two people to get screwed over. A screwer and a screwee. In the case with of commerce, both do it willingly, but it doesn't mean there are not reservations.
Demand drives price, not cost of goods sold. Look at water. There are people paying $3-4 for a liter of the stuff that falls from the sky, or that you can get for free just for the asking.

Agreed, it would be like having a 7.1 Dolby hds on a 2 speaker tablet.

4k, even on the iPad pro may produce little discernible benefits vs cost of implementation. 4k in larger screened iMacs do make more sense
I take the video from my iPhone and play it on the iMac. I think the disconnect between the acquisition device and the playback device needs to be had. The situation that you talk about, I agree with you, but in mine, I agree with me.

It makes perfect sense if you think of it from the standpoint that Apple will make an extra $100 from everyone who goes with the next model up... which is probably most of it's fan base rather than the cheapskates who are only willing to buy the base model.

As a business model it's VERY smart, lower tier base model makes 64gb model seem like a bargain.
As a consumer it sucks cause we're not getting a "great deal" but, "wah"... if you can't afford to play in Apple's yard go play in Google or Microsoft's.

As a consumer, Apple's business model and pricing tiers find no way into my heart. I want the most for least. Glad *you* like paying an extra $100.00 for what should be standard storage. But I'll bet most of us here would love a 32GB base model. I'm not cheap for not wanting to pay extra for 32GB, and I'm not wrong for wanting 32GB to be low end model.

A backup battery that can charge it tens of times. Ok buddy , so you have an external battery that can charge your iPhone minimum of 20 times? I hate when people exaggerate to try to make their point

The image here is rather humorous. A portable device in a bag to which you must tether your petite handset. We had those about 2.5 decades ago. Or ultra thin laptops than deeded an add on battery that more than doubled the thickness to last more than two hours. I'd much prefer an autonomous portable device that doesn't rely on external crutches to function as expected.

Here is what I want: MagSafe charging, extended battery beyond incremental upgrades, 2GB ram, no bezel on the sides, no home button (innovate a better way, Apple), better front and back cameras. You can keep your flashy chamfered edges, 1mm thinner, 0.7oz lighter models, and other non essentials.

It would be nice to some day get news with the title "Next iPhone to challenge Xperias 2 day battery life". That would make it the perfect phone for me.

I believe that's the case at Apple as evident by battery life stats since the 5. Even my old 4 could just about manage a full day with medium usage. Yes, the regular 6 has great battery life but it's nothing to get excited about -- we're still stuck charging our phones at the end of the day. The only reason I can confidently put my 6 Plus down for the night without charging it is that the bigger size meant bigger battery for the Apple engineers; I doubt they sat down with the intent of making a bigger iPhone for power users. No, 6 Plus advantages in the hardware department were co-incidental due to the bigger form factor (let's not get into the useless 'two-pane' features of the 6 Plus).

What is so horrible in plugging in the phone for the night?

A backup battery works for this situations but it would be better without. Some people have more active lives.

I'd add also various outdoor activities where GPS is required (e.g. geocaching). With outdoors activities I'd prefer keeping my waterproof case's flaps closed, which I cannot do if I need to be tethered to an external battery as the internal battery is next to worthless.

A FEW credit cards?

I'm expecting iPhone 10 to be precisely the thickness of a credit card, and the right size to hide it inside a Macbook between screen and keyboard. 320x227x0.5 mm!*

*with protruding camera scratching the Macbook screen but hey you can't have everything.

During the keynote the iPhone 10 will be introduced by Anja Rubik.

I actually did want to say a single credit card, but I'm trying to think practical for the next several years.

Definitely. So far I've never bought the base model iPhone but the +1 storage tier instead, but now that we got also iPhones as a choice for work phones the 16GB base storage is becoming a dealbreaker as our price limits for a work phone pretty much allow only the base model, and with an insufficient storage in the base model it seems like I need to skip the upgrade for now and keep using the old 64GB iPhone 6 I bought myself. If the 6s had 32GB base storage, I'd request a new work phone as I'm due for an upgrade anyway and Apple would get an additional sale, but 16GB is a non-starter as it's way too small for my use. If I could, I'd just pay the difference between the models myself, but so far that hasn't been possible for various reasons related to taxation and other bureaucracy.

Yes, you are cheap for not wanting to pay an extra $100 for the 64GB version. And you can want it all you want, but you'll just wind up looking like your avatar. Apple doesn't OWE you 32GB as a base model. Either deal with it or get something else.
