I've been a Mac user since 1995. I've never owned a Windows machine or any other type of smart phone other than Apple products. This is starting to look like a good year to try some new brands and step out of the Apple ecosystem for a bit. The massive delay in the Macbook Pro, the Mac Pro and now what is looking like a significant iPhone update has left a nice gap for which to try new things! I'll probably never leave Apple for good (because I truly hate the Windows OS), but perhaps in 2016-2017 it's time to walk away from Apple for a bit and take a break.

The space for the earpiece will be longer because it's moving to a new digital proprietary Apple connector called 'VeryVeryFrightening'.

If you want to continue using your analogue ears you can, but you will need a 29.99 VeryVeryFrightening-to-analogue-speaker adapter. This may seem an odd decision at first, but it means earpiece speaker makers can produce higher quality units because it isn't relying on the built-in Apple earpiece anymore, and can now wire the audio directly into your brain, cutting out distracting background audio entirely. It will also have an open API and app store with subscriptions, so that you can stop hearing the outside world altogether and enjoy wonderful audio targeted specifically For You.

You forgot to include the even better news that it will allow them to make the Thinnest iPhone YetTM by allowing a 0.4 mm reduction in the thickness. :)

Same boat exactly. I'll happily pass on what is being described here.
Its stunning how little of interest has been rumored for the 7. They've either been able to keep impressive secrecy on the cool stuff, or this will be the most underwhelming iPhone release ever, following closely on the heels of last year's release, which was also totally underwhelming.

The past "s" releases have at least had one "killer feature" like Siri on the 4s, Touch ID on the 5s, or 3D Touch on the 6s (in addition to faster processors and better cameras). So far I haven't heard of anything even remotely like that this time. The biggest rumor is for the removal of a port that many of us use on a daily basis.

You've quickly become my favorite ********er on here!

I feel like that, at this point, Apple is just trolling us, trying to make the iPhone actually worse just to see if people will still buy it. This might be the most underwhelming iPhone release yet. The biggest rumor is the removal of the headphone jack.

On naming -

They can't run with 'SE'. That model will be updated with better internals and maybe a '6 style' design next year.
A new number (7) is usually reserved for a redesign.
They dropped 'X' from Mac OS X.

Maybe we might see the 'X' utilized in a 3rd year model - iPhone 6X and 6X+?

Makes sense.. iPhone 7 / 7S / 7X.

Ha -- so the rumor is no major substantive upgrade, AND the customer still has to replace all of their accessories? Even my SE can use all of my 5s accessories.

It wll be renamed phoneDevice or wtPhone. Fits perfectly their obsession with names and design unification. Another option is iPhone WTF, that one follows the tradition of weird names like SE.

I doubt the SE will be upgraded anytime soon. They've got an incredible product already priced lower than any iPhone before it, with features that will still be relevant one the next two years. In depreciating the 6s, they can likewise depreciate the SE to the point of selling it for as little as $199.

In the meantime, they will most likely release a new 4" flagship phone sometime next year, which will drop down to the $449 spot, after which they can upgrade and rebrand it the SE $399 replacement to continue serving the very low end for three more years.

How can you hate windows when you just admitted to never using it?

With all the rumors, leaks, however you want to characterize them, about the iPhone 7 being a minor tweak of the 6S a couple of questions come to mind:

1) Would Apple spend much time on this at a typical fall iOS Event? I'm thinking, no, not much to hype and not look silly. So then, do you think there will even be separate iOS and Mac events or just one big fall event for presumably MBP, iMac, iPad Pro 13", maybe AW? Maybe AppleTV?

2) With the iPhone 7 apparently just a hair's difference from the 6S -- A10 processor, better camera maybe, but no headphone jack -- do you think Apple will just EOL the 6s completely and keep the 6, 6+ as the mid line just to ensure there is enough feature room between the the two price levels? Personally if my choice was the 6S or 7 I'd pocket the extra $100+ and take the 7. But in reality I'll just keep my 6 until the 8. Still curious though how everyone thinks this will shake out.

Replace ALL of their accessories, or replace NONE of their accessories, and add a free (included) adapter to a sole accessory???!
Because the 1st story I'm hearing from you, but the 2nd story I'm hearing from literally EVERY other source... what are you basing your claim on?

Apple went from "tick-tock" to "tick-tock-tock" schedule. Disappointing. And I won't buy a phone without a 3.5mm jack anytime soon. I have $500 worth of 3.5mm connector earphones that work just fine and want none of this Lightning port stuff.

I hope you're wrong about the tick-tock-tock cycle change. There will be A LOT of upset customers that have signed up for plans that upgrade yearly. I'm normally not that excited for the S cycle but this last one didn't even have me think twice. Hopefully Apple is holding some awesomeness back for 7.

Most bus drivers have never OWNED a bus... most airline pilots don't OWN planes.
Since he actually did NOT say that he never "used" a Windows machine; simply that he never owned one... it might be fair to assume, like in the other examples, that perhaps he worked a job where a tool was provided for use,but that the employee doesn't own, yes?
Most of us have encountered a PC at some point in our careers.
I am unsure what you do that you couldn't have sussed this out on your own; but am inclined to guess that you are basically picking apart his post in an attempt to start something or whatever... but it really was quite clear.
Everyone has used a PC; not everyone wants to own one. Make sense?

Apple will need something substantial to satisfy the pundits and investors who expect a dynamic Dog-n-Pony exhibition.

Personally, I'll wait and see what is the real item. I moved from the 6+ to the 6S+ just for the increase in RAM - needed for work - it is working out much better.

The removal of the headset jack would be a killer though.

lol! As far as that has gone, thinner will not be better. We don't want PAPER thin iPhones.

I have to believe that more has to change. I realize next year will be a (hopefully) complete rethink of the iPhone but there has to be more. I'm not a fan of the 6/6+ style but square the corners ala 5s and I think it would be a nicer looking phone.

a complete rethink? geez
