I have recently had the same experience not all too happy. Three days ago I had just bought a new iPhone 7 and was pretty thrilled and had previously had a Samsung. My friend then went on to drop the phone in the spa pool and I wasn't all too concerned because they are water resistant right? Anyways I left it to dry in rice for 2 nights and then thought it would turn on... it's been a week and the Phone still hasn't shown any sign of life. Very disappointed, wasted a lot of moneyHello, my first post here,
my new iPhone 7 128gb took a slip into the bath tub a few nights ago after it slipped out of my hand while trying to change Spotify playlist. So i immediately pulled it out and turned it off, took out my sim and left it to dry. Few days later (now) no signs of life at all, most i had was a white screen with visible water blobs inside it.
So, my question is, i understand the phone is not water proof but water resistant IP67, so if it was in the bathtub for no more than 5 seconds why is my phone completely dead? I've seen these phones withstand more water than a shallow bath tub. Theres also moisture in behind the camera.
Have i just been unlucky? If not then i strongly advise all of you from putting iPhone 7 anywhere near water, mine was the silver model although i doubt colour impacts water resistance.
I was on live chat to Apple i just explained the situation as it happened, and they said they'd grand an Exception provided the phone was repairable they'd 'Waive' the fee. Fair enough but the ways that was worded makes me believe they won't do anything with it.
In conclusion I'm pretty pissed, i just spent a lot of money on this phone now its totalled. Anyone have any advice or similar experiences on how to deal with this?

Keep it up, it won't work for too long.![]()
Idk how many times does it have to be stated: water resistant =/= waterproof. My first ever water resistant phone was the GS5. I never put it in the pool. Only took photos around the pool and babied it. I wouldn't dare use my iPhone in the shower.
Y

Keep doing that and your s7 or any water resistant phone will eventually die.
It's your money so go for it and learn the hard way with your high tech Korean phone

Expensive lesson to learn.
Next time you might be more careful with water resistant devices, it don't mean they are water proof completely and they do not have any liquid damage protection.
If You ruin it then it's on you.
I wonder how much it will help to use "splash resistant" like Motorola does with its G line?
I'm with the OP here, if the drop was only from 1' into water it should not have failed because of water damage since the phone has an IP67 rating.
The only thing that matters is what the Apple's policy is.
Anyone can claim whatever they want, liquid damage is not covered so saying I got it a little bit wet or it dropped a little doesnt make a difference.
The company is not liable for such repairs.
Not it Australia. Australian Consumer Law goes above and beyond whatever manufacturer assurances are given. To me, Apple advertises a feature and gives an explanation of how the feature works (<1m <30mins). If the product doesn’t meet the expectations of features Apple have given consumer, the customer has the right to a repair, replacement or refund. If they don’t want to cover water damage, don’t advertise it as being water resistant.
1. I know1. water resistant is not the same as water proof.
2. you're responding to something from 2 years ago.
If you know, what was the point in posting about Australian Laws? Apple gives plenty of disclaimers about their products, which is typically enough to satisfy many consumer protection laws. There is no "issue" here because Apple has covered themselves. The fact of the matter the phone is water resistant under extreme optimal testing conditions. Thats all that matters.1. I know

Did you read my post? I’m saying that Australian consumer law goes above whatever Apple says. It disregards their disclaimers. It’s pretty interesting, look into it if you like. I’m sure there are many other countries which protect consumer rights and don’t let businesses take advantage of customers regardless of their fine (or bold) print. If you know, what was the point in posting about Australian Laws? It’s not like I’m not in law school with a background in international products liability.Did you read my post? I’m saying that Australian consumer law goes above whatever Apple says. I’m saying that in Australia, if Apple advertises its products with certain features and a reasonable consumer would have certain expectations regarding those features without digging into the in-advertised details, Apple needs to live up to those expectations.
It’s a kind of tit-for-tat conversation really, I’m explaining that Australian consumer law goes above Apple, someone said ‘no it doesn’t’, I’m say ‘uh, yes, it does’.
If someone wants to refute my comment, let it be about Australia consumer law, not what Apple says. Because that’s what I’m talking about.
