I think there will be a second spike when people realize it will take 6-8 weeks to get the X but can walk out with an 8. I think comparing this to other cycles is a bit fraught since apple has never released two different tiers of phone this far apart.

They should have called it a 7S and released the X next year and the sales would have been higher.

The 8 should never have existed. The iPhone X is the overdue successor to the iPhone 6, 6s, and 7. The X should have been a $750 - $800 device with the 7 held over as a lower cost alternative. The 8 is nothing more than a price buffer between the $550 7 and the $1,000 X.

Apple's lineup is getting way too convoluted with multi-year old models being kept in production to hit some arbitrary price target. "Look, we've got something for everyone", but in reality offering the $350 SE, the $450 6s, the $550 7, and even the $700 already outdated 8 is like throwing the masses some crumbs (here's our leftovers) while pushing their new device into the luxury stratosphere.

I think sales were low because *some* people are waiting for the X, but at the same time, there really hasn't been any good promo's on the 8. When I got my 7, I got $600 in bill credits to trade in my 6. There has been little to entice people to upgrade to an "S" model.

If THRONGS of people are really waiting for the X instead of buying the 8, then many will be disappointed to learn that they have to wait MONTHS to get one, and Apple may see a mini spike in 8 sales. Also, depending on the reviews of the X once it's in people's hands, the 8 may see a surge in sales.

I'm concerned about what demand for the X is actually going to look like.

Apple's biggest fans seem to mostly be getting the 8 and 8+, while the people I know are either getting an 8 or 8+ or just holding onto whatever they have.

There was that survey suggesting that demand for the X was going to about match the demand for the 8 and 8+ combined, which would be pretty disappointing to me given how low demand has been for the 8 and 8+, but anecdotally, it seems to me that demand for the X is actually going to be even lower than that.

I should really part with my AAPL before it's revealed I'm right...
I'm gonna try and get it at launch, I know my surroundings aren't indicative of demand nation wide, but everyone I've spoken to is getting a X or Samsung Note 8, which still bugs me. I don't understand why people like Samsung phones. I can't comprehend it. I write this from my Pixel 2 XL.

Now I’m positive that iPhone X will sell very well, heck I’m upgrading one from my 6 too.

But, us enthusiasts aside, I really don’t expect much line at least where I am from where after taxes the X 256GB will cost around ~1550$.
I just don’t buy some people’s assumptions that “average most people” are waiting for X. (At least in world outside USA)

Either way, I recently saw my friends buy 7 Plus cause of mouthwatering pricing and discounts over 8 and 8 Plus, so either way Apple will make money, so it’s win-win. :)

I’m curious though, how many places have almost ~1500$ after taxes price tag? Are you guys or friends and family buying one?

Skipping the X. I like the dimensions and aspect ratio of the Plus screen. Will see what happens next year.

Same. I will let the early adopters test it and get the "excess".

Call me a sceptic, but I believe time will tell me about FaceID’s security
And convenience, not Apple Marketing.

Can we talk about how bad that stacked bar chart is. How can you have the same colors for different values?

Funny, before I looked into it (I don't bother with phones) I thought, hey, what happened to the 7S and figured it must have been released mid-cycle or something like that. But yeah. It turns out the 7S was renamed the 8 which was a weird move, I mean, will there be an iPhone 9 next year or 8s, or none at all?

Anyways. I upgraded to an 8 Plus after my 6 was running slow with all the iCloud services I was/am using. I even tried shutting off background services but still iCloud and Apple Music are updated. Dogged the poor system but good god the 8 blazes through everything.

Those of you waiting for an iPhone X will be very happy at the performance of this system when you finally get one! The camera is phenomenal and speed, wow!

Last year the iPhone 7 had an extra six days of availability in the quarter. It’s certainly not the difference in numbers but it’s worth mentioning.

You traded in your wife? Anyone know if I'll be able to do this for the X?

Agreed. At least the X unlocks but stays quiet when it sees you.

A lot of what Apple "should" do with their technology and pricing, but zero justification for your arguments. It's been widely reported (including here) that there is a substantial increase in materials cost and a substantially lower yield rate for this device, so how do you justify that price point?

Well not surprised by this data.. doesn't take into consideration that most stores don't have 8 in stock due to lack of ordering by Apple personnel. Even carriers have readily available 7's and tell you there's a wait on 8 devices. 8 is a poorman's and essentially they are the same device.. but again it's marketing 101 here, pay more to make people think it's premium/better.
They never made a 7s. The 7 came out this time last year. The called this on 8 because the made far more changes than an S model because they changed the materials of the case to glass

I have to lol at the people calling the 8 Plus “dated” or “old.” By that logic, the X is dated seeing as, for the most part, the specs are identical.

Apple will be facing the same problems as with the iPad. My iPad2 can do everything I need it to do. I Read news watch films and play some silly games. Why on earth would I need a telephone that has more computer power then some industries Had just a couple of decades ago. The only difference at the moment is that we are dropping our phones more often than our iPads. We just do not need to spend 800+ dollars every year to get computer power that is absolutely ridiculous.

Bought an unlocked 256 gig 8 Plus and sold my 6s Plus on gazelle.com. Couldn't be happier. I really like the TrueTone display and dual cameras. The battery life is great, too.

If a phone that isn’t the flagship sold like an iPhone flagship.... man if I had money I’d buy Apple stock now.
