Exactly.

It's unfortunate that the iPhone 8 is flopping because it means that everyone is holding out for the iPhone X. October 27 is going to be a massacre as millions of people scramble to grab the small number of phones produced.
How is it 'flopping'? I don't think the MacRumors poll is scientific exactly. I for one am not interested in paying a lot more for animated poop and a cutout screen. iPhone 8+ is a great upgrade from my iPhone 6+

It appears that Best buy is either charging $100 more than everyone else or they put in the wrong amounts.

iPhone 8 Plus vs the X:

Identical CPU
Identical GPU
Identical RAM (3GB)
Nearly identical camera
Superior battery in the 8 Plus

Sure, I'd love to get it all in a smaller package, but it's not worth an extra $300 to me. Maybe if they'd thrown in AirPods I'd go for it...

Basically, the 8 Plus is the apex, the pinnacle of what an iPhone with a Home Button will ever be. Refined, tested and true. The X is a prototype, a cool trick that points in the direction Apple is moving, but will take a couple more models to get *just* right.

The base model 8 Plus is still $1200 after tax. For a phone I'll keep 2-3 years. If I spend $1500 on the X, I'll feel like I need to go the full 3 years before upgrading to get my money's worth. I'm trying to remind myself that this won't be the last iPhone I own, just my 4th iPhone, with many more to come. I'll have Face ID 2 years from now when it's been perfected.

Prices in Canadian dollars.

So much this..While i'm in the U.S. and I have an upgrade, I don't think this rendition of the X is for me. I don't like the fact that they missed the mark with touch id under the screen and I loathe that notch more than anything. At this point, i'll hold out until those 2 things are remedied and get the 8+ as well next Friday. My gf told me yesterday "Get what you want but if the price has a comma in it, don't compromise. And she's absolutely right. Remove the notch, get touch id and i'm in. Maybe next year.

What if Apple purposefully delayed the release of the iPhone X a month so that anyone who who bought an 8 on launch can't return it once they see the X?!?!?!?!?!

EXACTLY! Next month is going to be horrible. This pre-order is going smooth only because nobody wants what is basically an iPhone 7S.

That’s actually something not so dumb. I was thinking of that. I was hoping if they staggered the launches. That it would still be close enough for someone to try the 8, and if they had to. Return it for the X. But it seems Apple is smarter than that lol.

I don't think that's the case. The delay imo is to give them another two months of production.
The problem with fragmented releases though so far just reading here it looks like many are holding out for the X.
The 8/8Plus with only a 2 week turn around isn't bad. Sure beats 6 weeks.

I think this will be the last year we see the 8 form factor

Most carriers give you 14 days to return. I don't return my old phone until I know the one I bought is the one I want.

I wish they had an X model available, but I still don't think it is necessary to pay $1149 for a phone that is lacking.

That being said, it will be 35 days between releases.

I agree with you. I think what will happen is the X will roll out, and people will either be all in or all out, and THAT is when the crashing websites and orders slipping on availability start happening.

Just talked to my source that knows Tim Cook. He said to tell y’all he thought this launch would be more successful. And that he is not “angry” with everyone here. But “disappointed” in you guys...

Where the lower income MRers hang out...

Just kidding. What's with the "I'm waiting for the X" posts on an iPhone 8 thread? Freudian study?

The 6S and the SE are basically the same generation as they have essentially the same inards and are separated by less than six months. The SE is also Apple’s Gateway drug into the iPhone/iOS ecosystem. Hell Walmart and Best Buy were selling them for $130/140 last weekend. I know because I got one to replace my old 5 as my “oh **** was that my phone?!” emergency backup.
I believe the SE has the guts of a 6 not 6S but regardless, my point was that the available product line was ridiculously fragmented.

That said, if I'd seen an SE for €130ish, I'd pick one up too as a backup or for family members.

I had breakfast with him this morning and he said, 'I'm rolling in 8/8+ orders, now can you pass the honey?'.

Why are people shocked that the iphone 8 isn't selling out on its first batch? The madness will be for the X. Even during the keynote you can tell that them talking about the 8 was just a stepping stone to reveal the X. Not that the 8 is a bad phone, but that's not the buzz.

Ordered a iPhone 8 Plus, 256GB Space Grey and it is now Preparing for Dispatch for delivery 22 September.

I had planned to go for an iPhone X but I really like Touch ID and a rectangular screen. The marginally larger size makes no difference to me. I think it will be great to have the latest CPU in a device which doesn't attract any attention because it looks like an older model.

Looking forward to the upgrade from iPhone 6 Plus. :)

8+ ATT SG 256

Would of ordered the X but just can't get past it's one flaw, the notch. That is just one bad design decision by Apple. I'm betting it won't be there in the next version.

I'm no expert but I would imagine they started production on the 8 a lot earlier than the X. I want the X too, but I actually love the fact that there will be a good supply of iPhone 8. This will turn a lot of people away from waiting for the X
From my understanding, they started production at the same time as every year. Which means either they bumped up the numbers this year or no ones buying it. And being that it's now 6 hours after launch and every color and size is still available for day one, I think no ones buying.

It's ok, not everyone has big hands. ;):)
Haha, was waiting for that one :D

Do you have freakishly elongated thumbs too, or just use the annoying home button double-tap screen drop thing?

Oddly enough, it's the one thing (only other being the camera) that appeals about the X, that size sweet spot inbetween. 'Course fully expecting it'll still be as slippery as a Vaseline-smothered eel in the hand.

That's the problem. No one wants the 8, everyone wants the X which is extremely supply constrained and will be impossible to get.

Alarm at 2AM. Got out of bed at 4AM. OOPS. Opened Verizon app. Ordered phone (iPhone 8 gray 256GB). Sweet. Expected 9/29. Wait is that a week late? YES. Dang.

I believe that's called.... Reachability? I forget now. And I use that all. the. time. Even on my 4.7" phone.

A person probably won't have too hard of a time walking into a store next week and getting an 8.
Wonder if we'll see pictures of people lining up outside of Apple stores or carrier stores trying to get the 8.
I doubt it

Granted the 8 for the most part has the same specs as the 10 but the 10 is the all new design and people like new.
Yes it's a $1000 phone but when you can spread that payment out interest free with only a $20 or so bump to your phone bill a lot of people aren't going to notice it. Now if they had to drop $1000 at the time of purchase we'd be looking at a whole different ball game but because of the payment plan I think some here who said they weren't going to buy it are going to wake up that friday morning look at the apple store app and say I woooooooonder if I can beat out others and to try get one.
It's like gambling.

I want a 10 my only hang up is I think the early production models will have issues. Work is getting me the 8P so I have something to tide me over while I wait for first hand reviews to see if I should wait for later runs or wait for the S model but if I happen to roll over Friday morning before preorder starts, the temptation to try and order one will be great:D

You can't really compare iphone 8 with iphone 7 numbers. The X changed positioning altogether. They're apples and oranges now. You're comparing a flagship's sales from last year to now a mid-tier product this year. It's really hard to know what Apple is expecting in iphone 8 sales for it to be deemed a success. I would bet Apple will be happy with the numbers and that's all that really matters.

I'm an SE user, but if i was into the over sized phones i would be getting an 8 not an X, just not that interested in the extra the X offers over the 8.

Quite a choice of phones Apple now offers.

SE, iPhones 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X.

I remember that I used to be so excited about buying every iPhone, even stood in line from the first iPhone up until the 4S. I skipped the 5, 6, 7 and now the 8. I bought my first Android phone when the iPhone 5 came out. I'm still using my 6S and 6S+ and several months ago, bought an SE. I'm more excited this year about my S8+ and I'm waiting for the unlocked Note 8 to come to BestBuy. Once it's readily available so I can just go in and buy it, it's mine.

Best Buy has been doing that for a while now if you buy the phone outright. I recently found out why. Went to buy my wife a 7 Plus a couple months ago, wanted to pay cash. Went to Target, they had them listed on the website but when I got there they said they don't sell outright, you have to add a line or upgrade. Went to the AT&T store, they don't sell outright, you have to finance it and then pay it off after 30 days. Went to Costco, they have them listed on their website but don't sell them in their stores. Went to Best Buy, the DO have them to sell outright but charge a $100 premium. I'm guessing because it's the only way to get a phone that day if you need one. Ended up ordering from Apple and getting it the next day.

Technically the X is longer diagonally so it should actually be slightly worse for that.
