Wait. Wait wait wait. iPhone preorders have been a clusterf*ck since they started doing preorders at all, and you’re saying the reason it’s finally going smooth now is because Apple finally figured out how to make enough phones to go around BEFORE putting them on sale?
Yeah, no. Three hours later, and every model and color is still available for in store pickup on the 22nd. Last year when I preordered my 7, in store pickup slipped after ten minutes.
In a month you’ll be eating your words, and I’ll be here serving them up on a platter for you.

I think a lot of people may be holding out until the X.

I also think a lot of people just don't want to upgrade this year.

However, we will never know why the process is smooth this year. My guess is because of the X. But again, we can speculate all we want.

I still had some trouble this morning ordering, so it wasn't 100%.

Maybe I am delusional or refuse to believe that people aren't interested in the 8...who knows?

Several hours after iPhone 8 orders have opened and delivery times have barely slipped (if at all).

I think we can confidently call the iPhone 8 dead on arrival.

It is going to be just like the iPhone 5C, which was a failure because it was introduced alongside a superior sibling, the iPhone 5S.

Commentators viewed iPhone 5C as a flop because of supply chain cuts signifying a decline in demand in October 2013.[45] Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted that the company overstocked the iPhone 5C while having shortages of the iPhone 5S, as a result of failing to anticipate the sales ratio between both phones.

You're laughable. It's been on available to pre-order for 3 hours and Apple probably has a giant inventory of these phones available seeing as it's essentially the 4th iteration of the iPhone 6, which means the manufacturing process will not have been adapted much at all to make millions of them ready for launch. The iPhone 8 will probably outsell the iPhone X many times over as it will have "contract friendly" pricing.

This is the first year i've not enjoyed purchasing an apple product and to be honest, if i didn't despise android so much I would have jumped ship. Why did we have to chose between the TouchID and Face ID, why do we have to chose between Good battery and ok-ish battery? Why do we have to chose between OLED and LCD?
I went for the iPhone 8 plus and still thinking if I should cancel/return and wait for the X. But I think this is where apple got it wrong this time. First of all the GB capacity - 64 or 256, the price of the X is ridiculous, I can afford to buy it outright but come on £1249 for a phone?! Really?! I know what people will say but still, this is ridiculous. Really disappointed this time around and although I am excited to get a new iPhone I feel like neither of us will get the best iPhone this year regardless of which model we went for and sadly that wasn't the case until this year. Should have kept my iPhone 7 plus:/

The price for an iPhone 8 with my supplier is £55 a month (special offer 12Gb a month for the price of 4Gb).

When the 4 and 5 came out it was £35 a month for unlimited data.

The X will be in the region of £70 a month. That's double the price of Apple's premium phone 7 years ago.

So I'm upgrading to an 8 next month because the X is just too far a leap pricewise. I think plenty of people will do the same.

True. I didn't go from a 6 to a 7. There's wasn't enough that was different.

I'm just going for the 8 for the wireless charging and the camera improvements over the 6.

Look at the order threads on the iPhone forum. Usually they are 75+ pages by now. The Apple.com one is 6 pages LOL.

Found a very nicely priced iP7 on Amazon for the wife this morning. My iP7 is very good, I see no reason to upgrade it, will skip a year and see how this X thing pans-out.

Regarding demand, to be fair the 5C seemed like a flop at launch, but was a very popular phone to buy for kids. Also with the 5SE - nobody queued for it, but I think it's done OK.

But it sure seems dead quiet to me and I've been following these launches since the original iPhone.

This made me legit laugh out loud. Yeah, it's DOA because a bunch of dorks like us aren't clamoring to get a phone that most consumers will end up buying throughout the next few months.

Maybe it's just people not wanting the latest and greatest anymore. If I had a 6 or 6S, I wouldn't get the X, I would get the 8. Plus, the X will "sell out" immediately because they aren't manufacturing many of them. It's painfully obvious. But dorks like us will claim "The iPhone X is a MASSIVE success because it's impossible to get one!!" when in reality it's all marketing and Apple being Apple. It's simple: make less, sell quickly, people act like it's in demand.

Out of curiosity, how much was the 7 you found on Amazon. I am trying to sell my 7 Plus but no one bites, ever.

Oh dear, I'm trying to think of a witty reply, but nothing I come up with will be as funny as your post

So what? Most pre-order threads over the years are full of people crying because they couldn't get their phones on day 1. As there's a healthy inventory people don't need to whinge.

Apple will sell tens of millions of iPhone 8 models.

The numbers speak for themselves. Nearly 4 hours and barely any slip in delivery dates. The iPhone 8 ordering threads on the forums are like a ghost town.

The opening weekends for iPhones are always their biggest weekends. It's all downhill from here.

It's from Amazon France and was €620 - 128GB Pink. That's around €130 cheaper than the price from Apple. It's from Warehouse Deals, but I always buy from there if I can and mostly the items are brand-new. If it's tatty then I'll return. If I see the iP8 next week and get a boner over it, I'll send back.

Just because a bunch of geeks don’t post in a geek forum, the phone has tanked? Behave.

It depends on the carrier. AT&T are still delivering on 9/22, but Sprint & T-Mobile (which seem to have amazing promotions along with their plans) shows some slipping for sure.

iphone X or go home.
No one wants a glorified Iphone 7.

Exactly.

It's unfortunate that the iPhone 8 is flopping because it means that everyone is holding out for the iPhone X. October 27 is going to be a massacre as millions of people scramble to grab the small number of phones produced.

7:45am eastern time - I just ordered two 256GB iPhone 8+, one silver and one space gray, using the apple store app and purchasing them on at&t with the iPhone Upgrade Program and they are scheduled to be delivered on 9/22.

Bought the iPhone 8 plus in Space Grey with 256GB and will get it on the 22nd through AT&T. Also bought the Apple Watch in Space Grey with the Dark Grey band and will pick that up in the store on the 22nd.

I guess no one wants a new Apple Watch either? Or the Apple TV 4K? Maybe, just MAYBE, Apple figured out how to get the supply at a good amount.

You complain for years and years about pre-orders and launch day problems. Then, the problems are alleviated (for the most part) and you say "PEOPLE DONT WANT SUCH AND SUCH PHONE". That makes no sense! You can't have it both ways. So which one is it? Clusterf*ck of a pre-order or not a clusterf*ck of a pre-order.

Been saying for months that I don't know why Apple is releasing this phone and here is the proof! I think Apple totally miscalculates their average (non-techy) customers and the power of their brand. When someone is buying a new phone, they want he best you can get at that time. They may not upgrade for three years, but at least they bought the best phone they could at that time.
