everybody thinks the next iPhone's going to be a huge step. half true, half false. next year Apple expands the iPhone line, deeply separates iPhones following the target audiences, and releases a complete new quaternary series to celebrate the 10th anniversary: entry-level, main users (two sizes), and business users. There must be some well communicable improvements for every iPhone, but the question is still with us: what is the game-changer feature of the decade?

entry-level iPhone: stays fancy but not the smartest one: similar construction, improved features (camera, processor, connections), new functions rarely.

iPhone: Retina 2K, 4.7" 2048*1152, 500ppi, with Home button

iPhone Plus: Retina 2K, 5.5" 2400*1350, 500ppi, with Home button

a new individual category (-> HP Elite X3) for comprehensive business use, first year in a few country:

iPhone Pro: Retina 4K, 5.8" OLED HDR 4096*2160 800ppi, 1000 nit

- Touch ID built into the screen
- new color options
- 78% screen-to-body ratio (1.5x iPhone original)
- 1 inch/oz. screen-to-weight ratio
- 0.3-inch / 7.5 mm thick -> bigger battery + no camera bump

from 999 €

in 2018 the Home button and SIM cards leave the iPhones forever and the new design and OLED screen both arrive to all iPhone already (except the entry-level one). 2019 will be the year of the optimized coherent synergies, and in 2020 everybody will be shocked by the new iPhone X, the first AnTuTu-millionaire smartphone with 1000x CPU performance of original iPhone, includes all of these features above.

everybody thinks the next iPhone's going to be a huge step. half true, half false. next year Apple must at least prepare for VR, but more likely release a VR product line with iPhone. this way needs screen resolution improvement. but there needs to be some difference between normal and Plus iPhone's improvement. here's the conclusion:it must be a well comunicable change for every iPhone, and Plus must be better than normal, Pro must be better than Plus.

iPhone: Retina 2K, 4.7" 2048*1152, 500ppi, with Home button
iPhone Plus: Retina 4K, 5.5" 3840*2160, 800 ppi, with Home button
iPhone Pro: OLED Retina 4K, 5.8" 4096*2160, 800ppi, same size as Plus with no Home button, new design, extra features (USB 3 speed, smart connector, four speakers probably)

in 2018 the Home button leaves the iPhones forever and the next design and OLED sreen both arrive to the normal iPhone too, Plus line ends.

do you work for apple huh?

Account created today. Outlandish predictions with no sources.

I smell a troll.

belive or not, you can recognise the true Apple logic behind this concept

remember this, and next September you'll watch with big eyes

^agreed with above. But OP, those are quite some lofty goals that highly doubt Apple will spec out.

Your dream iPhone is still many years away stop thinking about it just enjoy your current iPhone
I do understand your opinion, but it's not a dream of me. I don't even interested in VR, so the current resolution is just good enough for me. see you in next September.

Back to reality.....and we'll get smaller bezels, possibly OLED & True Tone, usual cpu/gpu/camera improvements plus one other thing.

That's it.

Phone is damn near perfect. I don't understand what people really want, physical design wise.

Kill the camera bump and antenna lines. Trim down the top and bottom bezels some more. That's all I could ask for.

iPhone Plus: Retina 4K, 5.5" 3840*2160, 800 ppi, with Home button
iPhone Pro: curved OLED Retina 4K, 5.8" 4096*2160, 800ppi, same size as Plus with no Home button, new design with no camera bump, extra features (4 GB RAM, USB 3 speed, smart connector, split view, wireless charging, four speakers probably), from 999 €

* or Retina 2K, 4.6" with 2048*1080, 500ppi, bit smaller to make a space for the future 4th size: 4", 4.6", 5.2", 5.8"

This is a geek's wish list, and definitely not apple's list.

  1. VR? not gonna happen
  2. 4K on 5.5" screen? for what? drain battery and heat up faster than it can recharge with little benefit.
  3. Curved screen? seriously those gimmick curved TV are a niche market.
  4. no camera bump? not gonna happen unless they want to downgrade camera picture quality or increase thickness. two biggest compromises just for no camera bump? not gonna happen.
  5. 4GB RAM and USB 3. I wish for USB 3 but apple is pushing for cloud, not local storage.

We are already thinking of spending another US $1000 on a phone?

some of us never pay full price for a phone. we spend a faction of the cost by using carrier subsidize/promotion and selling old phone. for example, I paid around $200 for iphone 7 plus, including tax and activation fee.

Shipping times are still 3-4 weeks (according to apple.com) for most of the 7+ models, can we at least wait until those are available immediately before discussing the iPhone 8?
What this person said! I'm still in my honey moon phase with my launch day 7. At least wait until everyone has there's before we start discussing the next iPhone!

I just want fast and wireless charging. I don't care about that vr bullshi* I had that on my old s7 used it like once. I think the iPhone 7 would be perfect with wireless charging.
