I'm wondering if the iPad is Apple's replacement for the Mac Mini. With iOS 11, it's more capable. And it's about the same price. The Mini acted as Apple's server replacement. It's worked well for that purpose, but with High Sierra there are rumors that imaging and deployment will no longer be an option. If so, then the Mini has less of a reason for being in Apple's line-up. After five years with no update, I don't think the Mini will be around much longer

But I'm happy to be proven wrong. ;)
An iPad is not a mini replacement, at least for a good percentage of people.

The only thing more annoying than the emojis will be the hyperbole gushing from the speaker's mouth about how great these stupid things are. Life simply can't continue without an animated 3D emoji. Sort of makes me feel nostalgic when I reminisce about the days when speakers got excited about computers and pro software.

Surely Apple must have something up there sleeve or they'll struggle to justify $1000 for rubbish like this. I know OMLED screens are nicer but most consumers aren't going to give a crap. It hardly justifies the expense. Apple really need to be coming up with solutions to problems like battery life and fast charging (without having to shell out for extras).

As for the design, if I was going to pay $1000 I'd want something that at least looked nice. Let's hope for the 2018/2019 models they perfect Touch ID under the screen and solve the design issue with the notch.

The dumbing down of online communication continues unabated...
I don't like them, but no one is forcing you to use them just like no one is forcing you to use lol code in place of an actual language. Shallow people have been abusing things like that for as long as i can remember.

Nothing new here, move on.

So apple shouldn't design a phone that caters to all age groups and not make the iphone fun and playful? I find nothing wrong with the concepts being presented in these leaks.

I didn't say anything like that. All I said was it looked like Apple might be designing. a phone for kindergarteners. From a business perspective I think that would be a brilliant move as that demo is woefully underservered in this market. No one makes a really good phone for 5 year olds. I mean seniors have a Jitterbug but tots have nothing but the hollow plastic Fisher-Price that doesn't even get reception no matter what carrier their parents use. Horrible.

Only two speakers come to mind who's going to do that animoji demo. It'll either by Phil "The Schill" or Craig "The Hair". Phil, Tim, Cueball, and the others will make cringe worthy. Craig's the only one who may be able to pull it off without looking stupid. But then again, there's that Touch Bar demo he did as well to keep in mind.

I'm betting it's going to be Craig.

I seem to recall you had made similar comments regarding the new updated imessage. But you have been observing apple and following apple much longer than me. They seem to start out with some simple thing, like this animoji that everybody can understand and turn it into something unique and powerful. And on the other hand we all know they are not designing a phone for 5 year olds, but alleged price aside, teenagers, grandparents, moms with young kids, divorced dads...basically every demographic might want to buy this phone. You never know who might be taken by this very simple demo.

OK, just take the joke for what it was. No need to be serious 24/7.

Everything about most new versions of old hardware is generally "nicer" - when did you see almost any version 2/3/4/5/6 hardware that had an essential update that wasn't frippery really......Any non-geek user buying this phone will primarily be buying it cause its Apple or they like the look of it, they won't give a rats about the new chips or camera or endless other under the hood improvements....

That was a joke? Ok then.

If you thought I was serious with those remarks then I'm a bit speechless. Maybe you didn't think it was funny. I can understand that. But if you thought the tone of the comments with dancing 3D emoticons characterized as Apple execs was dead serious rather than sarcastic def a cultural disconnect there. Same goes for the kindergarten commment posts (both of them).

It's hard to tell sometimes whether posters are serious or not. This is the Internet after all. Def a "/s" would have helped. Back to our regular scheduled topic.

Right... And why will they stay with Apple if all phones are basically the same (if all new versions are nicer), kicks?

They stay not for the specs of the chips themselves (that would be a Samsung pitch), but what those chips enable in improved user experience (the software that integrates this hardware to the rest of the ecosystem).

If that wasn't the case, eventually you'd get commodity and that would be a very bad place to be and Apple would indeed be "doomed".

The improved hardware is in the service of the improved user experience and not just some generic improved mpx, or cpu power with nothing else changing. The Ability to do a huge amount of Computer Vision and AR on a phone is not some generic improvement. It has real impact on the way people use a phone.

In my opinion the display of the iPhone X will sell the phone to any non geek user. Samsung's OLEDs ae gorgeous to look at and if those very same OLEDs are on the iPhone X, thats going to make the 8 look very muted and boring next to the X. Add the bezelless design and you have a sale

Glad to see they're focusing on what's important.

Yes, their FUN customers who are young people and people not jaded and cynical, old before their time and bemoaning the FUN little things which make life better.

Gosh, lighten up folks, how do SOME people manage to find bad in EVERYTHING? Would you prefer a bash prompt and ascii smileys?
