What was Apple thinking?

iPhone 8+ 64 GB: $800

iPhone 7+ 128GB: $769

The biggest differentiating factor between the two? Wireless charging... which WON'T be available without BUYING a new accessory NEXT YEAR.

Why Apple? Just why? Who in the marketing department said "This makes total sense"?

I don't think the OLED model will be the worst selling iPhone at all, if anything, it will likely shatter sales. For me personally, I think it's worth the wait and 64 GB is exactly what I prefer for storage. The Wireless charging pad doesn't interest me at this time anyways.

I'm talking about the iPhone 8 (Basically the 7s models) not the iPhone X.

My mistake. I mean if you look at it, the iPhone 8 will still be popular because the affordability factor for those who are not interested in a more expensive OLED model.

They are in a very precarious place, especially with the price bump...and with previous models (which are basically the same as the 8) dropping to a price point of $150 less. What were they thinking here?

I feel like the affordability took a hit with the price increase. But yeah, it’ll still sell out in the first hour or two. It’s just a great time to snag a 7, if affordability is the biggest factor.

I'm opting for the OLED model when it launches in November, I currently own a 7 Plus and I don't think the iPhone 8 would be in tune to what I want. I'm looking for more of a change and the OLED model will address that.

Not completely true. You don't have to buy Apple's charging pad. You can use any that adhere to the Qi standard.

The 5C sold pretty poorly as far as I know. That really tanked, for the same reasons.

Add on at least $200 to those prices if you live outside the USA. Makes the 8 even more tough of a purchase choice.

The wireless charging thing is nice, but it's nothing ground breaking (for me). I use Anker chargers. They take my iPhone 7 Plus from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

So after you have to buy another accessory, would you say the now larger price difference to use that extra feature is worth having only half of the storage space? I feel like for the majority of people, the answer to that question is NO.

That makes good sense-and is what most of us should do. Plenty of buyers remorse threads will pop up when the X goes on sale. it’ll be extremely interesting to see how the preorder demand for the 8/8+ will unfold this weekend!

The iPhone X seems like a real Cadillac but all those technical gizmos don't seem to be of practical use (to me anyway) not to mention that there is so much that could go wrong (glitches etc..). With that I may just stick with the Chevy (iPhone 8) as it's time for me to upgrade after 3 years...

Having seen the iPhone X by comparison I think it'll sell pretty well to people who own older models than the iPhone 7. It's a decent upgrade and is not silly money. I'd certainly consider it if I was upgrading.

The charging mat was pretty shyte though, I'd stick with a cable lol.

We hear this negativity every year and the new iPhone goes on to be a smash success.

I thought it was $699?

And I'm on a 6. Ready for the upgrade. I don't think I can justify $300 for the larger screen and better camera.

I'm honestly guessing they don't care about Cannibalisation, they probably make equal margins on the two models, so if it just shifts more people to the 7 so be it - same as they did with the mini 3.

The issue here is this is not just a new phone and new phone plus year. It's more simialr to the 5S and 5C year. The only difference is the 5C was old tech at the time but the 8 is new tech now.

I'm getting the 8....As long as I get wireless charging with the AirPower, I'm set.

The 7 looks like the best buy. Keeping mine for at least another year. Hopefully the X will be more refined and come at at a power price in a year or two.

This man has it right. If you do not need the bells and whistles, AR and all the gizmos, the 7 is a great buy. I am glad I got my wife a 7+ 128 last month at a "decent" price, rather than waiting and having to buy her a 8+ 256gb for GULP $950!!!! She will not use the features, and she would not have had the Rose Gold option. Sure the 7+ is $100 less today, but her 6 was beyond repair at the time.

Like I said - negativity. I don't care what direction it comes from. And it's okay to not like some aspects of a new phone. But a lot of us assume that if a few nerds on a forum don't like something, the other 98% will follow suit.

agreed. traded in my 5s to tmobile for $300 and got the 7+ JB 128. effectively paid $550 plus tax

So I just looked at the news 2 minutes ago.... is anyone else as underwhelmed as I am regarding the 8?

https://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-iPhone-X-iPhone-8-and-iPhone-8-Plus-battery-life_id97985

The battery life when comparing the X vs 8+ vs 7+ is practically the same, and in some cases lower than the 7+ by an hour.

I'm glad that the X has fast charging but as someone else said, my Anker brick loads up my 7+ pretty quickly.

Am I missing something here or is the X just an OLED hype train, and the 8 has a couple of camera differences and the A11 thats new?
