I think it's the best option for me.
IPhone7+ 128GB at 769, and AW3 for my wife.

(I am switching from 6S+).

The 7S+ already has the only upgrades I am really interested in over my 6S+ that is optical zoom & improved front facing camera, which I am only upgrading because of its recent battery issues.

I completely skipped over the 7+, but I really like how the standard 8 has Optical Image Stablization... it used to be only on the + phones for the iPhone 6.

Personally, I was slightly underwhelmed by the X, and didn't realise it's as big as it is - I've got tiny hands and the Plus is too big for me, so the X would be way too big. I also can't justify spending £1000 on a phone (the 8 is expensive enough), so I'll be getting a 8. Don't need the all-signing, all-dancing X. Just my own opinion.

The screen may be bigger but the device is significantly smaller than the plus. That being said, someone with small hands shouldn't be expecting to use a large screen phone 1 handed anyway. However, at least the device will be easier to grasp.

You mean 7+ I guess (there's no 7S+). Yep camera is a factor

Yeah, the 64GB is a joke at this point. I would have probably picked 128GB if the option was there, but Apple wants to cut costs and make money off of people who can't afford high storage, and people that can pay for maximum storage.

The neural engine I think is something that could be worth it, having all that processing in a small device. What would it be used for if not for FaceID, that is the question.

I think it will be used for AR/VR, as Huawei announced a similar neural engine for their new Kirin SOC and I think that's what they said it'd be for. With that being said, I don't think buying a phone now for specifically for AR is a great idea as it will still take a year or 2 for there to be a significant quantity and quality of AR apps.

Yeah, AR I to me is just a fad, and maybe a potential eye risk having to put the screen so close to your eyes... thinking eyestrain... I think the phone method is the way to go, but I like the approach Apple is taking. I would have loved to see a minecraft demo at the keynote that uses the ARKit to have a tabletop minecraft experience, much like the Hololens microsoft showed off. Then again, I bet Microsoft didn't want Apple stealing it's thunder from back then, so they probably said no and may not be releasing AR minecraft for oh, maybe 2 years? If ever?

It'll sell like all the other phones. Perhaps better. We won't know the true extent until people start getting them.

I actually don't think AR will be a fad, I think the potential to do A LOT of cool things is there with AR. Just because people are toying around with little dog walking apps at the moment doesn't mean other applications can't be a game changer.

I remember when I was in france, I was looking for a specific store that was in a really congested street with tons of store fronts and not knowing the language, made it hard as hell to find the store I was actually looking for. It'd be cool to use the camera and have a map feature that shows a real time path guide to the store on the screen, as just an example.

So again, I think AR really is the future when people start taking advantage of it and get more creative with their apps, I just think it will take 1-2 years before we get those very helpful and quality apps.

Looks like I can't use iPhone Upgrade Program to upgrade to iPhone 7+. It forces me to go to iPhone 8 or iphone X

Both phones look great, I'll probably buy the 7 though. For the things I do (podcasts, reddit, music streaming, scanning documents and reading) my SE has been fine, the display is just a bit dim. More storage and a brighter display is all I really need. After all, they're all still phones and most modern phones will do most daily tasks just fine. A few years ago I might've leaped unto the X, but now I'd rather spend that money on something else (esp since the X 256gb goes for over 1600 USD in sweden).

It sounds like some of y'all are dogging the 8 just to justify getting the X.

Look at years past. When has an annual upgrade really been THAT impressive that someone HAS to get the next model? Small spec bumps. A larger screen from 4S to 5 then 5s to 6.

I've had my 6 for 2.5 years and really, I see no reason to really upgrade at all, other than just having that itch. The smartphone market has plateaued and matured, I believe, to the point where manufacturers can't add much value to the next model. Sure, little better camera, better speakers, better screen, but nothin like Touch ID or Retina display.

No, I'm not dogging the 8 to justify the X, I'm not going to get either because the value proposition isn't there whatsoever. I'm dogging the 8, because it's more expensive than the 7, with half of the storage, which is probably the one thing most normal people will be able to easily quantify and compare phones. Basically, half the storage, for wireless charging which you have to spend even more money for the accessory in addition to the already higher price.

I think that the problem is the price point of the 8. Using the Plus models:

Iphone7+ 64GB: $699
Iphone7+ 128GB: $769
Iphone8+ 64GB: $799
Iphone8+ 256GB: $849
IphoneX 256GB: $1149

I think that the 8 is horribly placed in the middle of nowhere.

You seem to be in the same situation as me. I love my 6 but it has been acting up on me (randomly restarting, issues with iMessage etc).

I am leaning towards buying an iPhone 7 once the price drops.

I wholehartedly agree. I was ready to jump from my 6S+ to the iphone8, but looking at what it is and how it's price is well above what the 7+ used to be, there's really no justification for it.

Price already dropped. 7 256GB goes at 649 today.

Personally, I was slightly underwhelmed by the X, and didn't realise it's as big as it is - I've got tiny hands and the Plus is too big for me, so the X would be way too big. You may want to check out the dimensions on the Apple website - the iPhone X is actually just a bit bigger than the 8, and is smaller than the +. Not having the bezels knocks a lot of size off.

And a better CPU? I thought I saw that.

It's a newer model. It's going to be more expensive than the older one. Or am I missing something?

I'm getting the 8....As long as I get wireless charging with the AirPower, I'm set.

Apple does a great job manipulating the consumer. "AirPower" is something that doesn't exist today. The term is something Apple is promising "likely next year" meaning it could never happen. The technology built into the phone is Qi charging, a standard that exists (hell you can buy a $15 samsung charge pad and it'll work with the iPhone 8\X just fine).

It's Qi charging not AirPower. If you're waiting for AirPower, you'll likely be waiting until NEXT September or beyond.

It looks like the new prices are on the Apple app. $649 for 128 GB 7.

Maybe I'll consider that one, but I'm only using half of my 64 GB 6 and it'll be 1 year old tech.

Maybe if it was cheaper I might consider that then upgrade next year.

What are you talking about? The X is almost the same size as the iP7 and iP8 (non-plus models). It's like 0.2" longer and wider. It's WAY smaller than the Plus.

Aaaaand chill.

So I got it wrong, big deal. No need to jump down my throat.
