And a better CPU? I thought I saw that.

It's a newer model. It's going to be more expensive than the older one. Or am I missing something?

I agree, it has a nice new CPU. The thing is, what is actually going to take advantage of it? What apps actually take advantage of the a10? Are you going to see any difference scrolling through home pages and apps? Probably not. That's one of the consequences of supporting 5 year old phones. Apps have to run well enough with old devices that the new processors don't really make an impact. iOS is a relatively simple OS without a ton of features (compared to android for example), and simplicity has it's benefits in that it doesn't need the most powerful hardware to run well, the downside is, because of this simplicity, the most powerful hardware in the world won't do much to change the day to day experience. Basically, it's like driving a ferrari with a 60mph speed limiter. Sure, it can go super fast, but you'll never get to see it or notice it.

I agree. That's why I've stuck with my 6 for so long. I think my plan may be to get the 8, the upgrade next year if the top line model isn't ridiculously expensive.

One game I play is lagging a lot. And I have a friend that wants my 6 for her daughter instead of buying a brand new one.

My 6+ still runs well, I was thinking of upgrading this year but may hold on or get a second hand 7+ as I can't justify the current pricing. I have to say Apples new phone pricings have me considering a Galaxy S8+ but I really like iOS and how it works :-(

I wholehartedly agree. I was ready to jump from my 6S+ to the iphone8, but looking at what it is and how it's price is well above what the 7+ used to be, there's really no justification for it.

Price already dropped. 7 256GB goes at 649 today.

Hmmmmm ok I was looking at the Verizon website and it hasn't budged. Thank you.

First time poster, long time lurker! Take it easy on me guys.

I reside in India and over here we don't have contracts with our service providers. We outright buy the handset. The iPhone X 256 gigs is going to cost 1600 US$ and I can assure you guys that it's going to be hard to get one.

Apple keeps bumping up the prices because they know people will still buy them. We all have jobs and if our clients will buy at a premium from us, we won't shy either. It is what it is.

What's been really disappointing to me is the storage options. If they just make the 64 gigs as 128 gigs across the line of phones, they address a lot of grievances. But, it all again comes down to sales and Apple knows that people are still going to queue up and buy.

From what I saw of the keynote, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus looked like devices that had been thought out and properly evolved. Yes, it would be nice to have the old price point but there are some features that are a nice addition. The iPhone X on the other hand looks amazing but clearly rushed. It's definitely got me spooked.

My conclusion is that Apple could have made this a memorable event by simply launching just the iPhone X in 128 and 256 gigs even if at the crazy price tag that they have. Steve Jobs was all about simplicity and just from the naming scheme itself you can see that things are anything but simple.

Ya, unfortunately the 6 had one of the smaller performance jumps compared to the 5s. Both the performance jumps from the 6->6s and 6s -> 7 feature much larger relative performance jumps, so it makes sense the 6 may be running into some issues in certain use cases.

AFAIK the wireless charging works with existing chargers.

You totally forgot the much better camera, better low light sensitivity and 4k@60fps, as well as 1080p@240 fps, both of which are big deals for me.

For affordability they can go with 7, 6S or SE. 8 is not really affordable, it’s more “as expected”.

My point was, the iPhone 8 is still significantly cheaper than the iPhone X. And given most will trade or sell their previous device, the price point be negligible.

Apple does a great job manipulating the consumer. "AirPower" is something that doesn't exist today. The term is something Apple is promising "likely next year" meaning it could never happen. The technology built into the phone is Qi charging, a standard that exists (hell you can buy a $15 samsung charge pad and it'll work with the iPhone 8\X just fine). Stop being a moron and just letting whatever Apple spews come into your mouth and down your throat.

It's Qi charging not AirPower. If you're waiting for AirPower, you'll likely be waiting until NEXT September or beyond.

Firstly, reported for unnecessary name calling.

Secondly, what does the name, branding, or the type of technology have anything to do with how I am choosing the 8 over X? I don’t think you even paused to think about it and was just clawing at the chance to insult the next Apple user for no reason at all. Good job derailing the topic. I think you just manipulated yourself.

I was giving some thought to getting a 128g 7+ when I started reading this thread, but I've come around to getting a 64gb 8+ instead. Here are some of my thoughts
  • I have a 64gb 6+. There is 14g free. I don't have it downloading full-size photos, and there is 14g of music I probably don't need. I don't need more space.
  • The 8+ has the better camera, and the primary reason I want to upgrade is the better camera.
  • It has the True Tone display to make it easier to see outside in the sun. This is handy for reading books at the beach and other places I might also bring my Kindle.
  • I don't think the jump the X is worth it. Most of what it seemed to give me was more gimmicky. I'd like to see FaceID get another couple of revisions before I get it.
  • I got 3 years out of my iPhone 6. Frankly, if it show in RAW I would probably still keep it. I think I can get 4 years out of the 8+.

You clearly demonstrated a lack of any understanding of the technology. Guess if Apple comes out with the technology to wirelessly sync your phone with your computer and calls it AirSync you’ll think it’s a first top just because they gave it a cutsie name. Now now I see why Apple uses words like Iris Display, Continuity, AirPlay, bionic A11, and AirPower. Lol, people think it means Apple came up with it.

I don't think many 7 owners will be upgrading to the 8. The 7 still smokes even the latest flagship Android phones and is still incredibly quick and capable- there isn't much real-world gain to be had with an 8. And, if you're the type who wants the latest and greatest, you'll likely go for the X and not the 8...

Other than that, I don't think the 8 will have a problem selling.

Again. You’re arguing something with me that I never started an argument about. Are you certain it’s me that is “lacking” understanding right now?

Again. I ask you: how does inquiring about the AirPower relate to me wanting an 8 over the X? If you can answer this, then by all means let’s make this an Apple vs other company debate. Except, it isn’t an Apple vs other company debate, is it? Please reread my original post more carefully.

Because you stated "as long as it has AirPower, count me in!" ... which means you either think the technology is called AirPower, or you think that AirPower = Qi, and neither is correct. No Apple iPhone 8 or X is shipping with AirPower, that's a future Apple Technology not yet released. Qi is the universal standard that the phone supports. If you can't comprehend it, maybe someone else is willing to explain to you that Qi does not mean AirPower and AirPower does not mean Qi... so if you're going to try and sound intelligent, use Qi not AirPower, because if you talk about your new phone coming with AirPower, people who are intelligent will laugh at you in the real world. Just trying to help.

"iPhone 8 - Destined to be the WORST Selling iPhone Ever?"

That's the exact point, at least initially. If they can't make enough to supply demand, like any brand in their market position, they then increase the price to put-off people from buying said product, until they can produce more and lower the price next year on the next standard model.

Geez, are people blind to the bleeding obvious.

Count me in for an 8....over a X. That’s the only point that I brought up, is that I want an 8 because it supports wireless charging. That’s it. It’s as simple as that. You’re confusing the subject in which we’re arguing. You’re arguing over calling the product by its rightful name. I don’t give a rat’s ass if the technology name is Qi Jee Bee Gee Gee Tea bags. All I care about is that the 8 supports it.

And what does intelligence have to do with desiring a product and calling it by its designated product name? Drama much? For the record, I do want the AirPower, I will call it that, and will I will wait for it’s inevitable release in 2018. Deal with it.

BOTH do wireless charging AFAIR from the keynote.

That's fine... call any tissue a Kleenex, and call any copy machine a Xerox... just demonstrates the difference between a ad-vulnerable consumer and a prosumer\professional. Was just trying to enlighten. :)
