X if you want everything in the Plus including 21 hour battery life in the form factor of an 8. (plus the OLED screen w/FaceID)

Will probably buy a Samsung S8 Plus this weekend. Don't have any allegiances to either platform but would have preferred to stick to the iOS platform as I have a 7 Plus now. But after a year it's feeling clunky with the wasted space and the X I don't believe in. The notch, narrow landscape view and production scarcity will be a pass this time. I can't believe they'll keep the notch design.

🙂

But I think for me, writing things out really does help me a lot with decisions so I mostly write for myself. Either way, I'll be getting an iPhone 8 Plus. i've tried to get a plus for years on launch day. Maybe I can finally get one?

I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing. I thought your assessments were logical and well laid out.

But the X has less battery life than the 8+ in other areas.

Don’t get me wrong I really want the X. But I don’t want to sacrifice battery life and be stuck waiting until January to get the new phone.Plus I can get the Apple Watch for the price that I would have spent on the difference of the phones plus the extra I will have to spend to get back on the September cycle to purchase the next phone.

I'm going from a 7+ to an X. I'm going to spend the next month and a half waiting and reading threads about how people wish they had gone for the X over 8

And we will gladly enjoy reading about you complain your phone won't be in your hands until 2018 and how face ID is sketchy and how the stainless steel sides scratch so easily and how the "notch" obscures content.....

I'm on iUP and will be upgrading from a 7 Plus to an 8 Plus. I'm a massive fanboi and was chomping for the X, but it's just not that "blow-away". Apple still need that killer feature. It may be the "future of Apple smartphones" but it's not the "future of smartphones" as they are lagging behind. I like the bigger screen and aspect ratio of the Plus. I like bezels so I can hold the device in landscape securely without obscuring the content. The notch is amateur. Hopefully next year will be what it should have been.

£200 for Animoji isn't worth it to me. The 8 Plus gets all the good bits of the X without the questionable bits.

iPhone 8 plus for me as well.

The X is a very nice phone. i've always purchased an S model.

When it comes to video playback, does the 8 plus support HDR?
I'm not sure about that one. if it does thats a plus for me!

I like your blog adam. OLED would have been great for the 8 plus.

I really don't understand folks who are opting in for the 8 over the X. At the end of the day, the 8 is still pretty expensive. The X is just a much better phone all around. The only phone out that is virtually just as impressive as the X is the Note 8. That's the only "8" people should bother getting if not the X.

There are a ton of reasons I already highlighted.

1. Only improvement is FaceID and OLED screen (and Animoji if you count that)
2. Wait time will likely extend into January even if you order on day-one
3. Another iPhone comes out next September and it's january so why even get the X at that point?
4. iPhone X is where the puck is going. I'd rather just wait for the puck to arrive than bet on an $1149 device that is an example of the future
5. $1149 over $949...that's a $200 premium. That's a month of groceries for a lot of people. or a month of fuel

I think it's short-sighted to say iPhone 8 people should go X or not go at all. In fact, I never saw anyone ******** on iPhone SE buyers instead of buying an iPhone 7. Some people love the SE and cost plays a huge factor in this. Let people buy what they want.

Pre-ordered the 8 at 2 AM on 9/15. Canceled on 9/17 and pre-ordered the 8+. Canceled the 8+ earlier this morning. I can't justify spending $950 + AC+ on the 8+ coming from my iPhone 7, as fantastic as I think the Plus is. I've never been more torn about a stupid cell phone, lol. But in 2017 / 2018 it is unacceptable that phones with huge bezels like the 8 are even sold, and to add insult to injury, start at $800 and jacked up by $50 from last generation.

Today I think my plan is to once again try my yearly Android experiment for a few months with either the LG V30 or Pixel 2 XL. I will then sell my 7 and inevitably pre-order the X when it launches. I disagree with the design of the X and hate the price point but am sure I will miss iOS if I switch back to Android for a few months.

as discussed in other threads,
people who want a big screen and like to watch stuff (series, YT, movies),
the X poses a problem when on landscape.
you can either watch full screen with the Notch on the left, or in a much smaller zoomed out size,
which is a waste of the big screen.
that's my only concern, although i won't get an 8+ anyway,

I'm waiting on consumers' review. This exclusive vs "standard" is kind of turn off for me....maybe neither. I'm not gonna rush like iPhone 7 plus sim free version that gave me hissing problem while recording.

which iPhone would you guys prefer to buy iPhone 8 plus or iPhone x?

I'd take both of them if I could!

I would probably prefer the X in the end, but the delay is pushing me toward the 8 Plus - or at least trying the 8 Plus first while I wait for the X.

Sounds like you are buying an 8 Plus, then if you change your mind, return that and get an iPhone X, right?

That was my original plan, and still is. But I doubt it will come to that. I'm already feeling pretty content with my choice, but who knows? The X might just get me yet hahah

I don't plan on upgrading this year. My 7+ is perfectly fine and under contract. But if I were, that would be an X without a doubt. I guess I'll just get an X+ next year or whatever they want to call it. I love the new form factor, the "big screen yet smaller footprint", OLED, battery life, etc.

I can't help feeling people getting the X are acting as beta testers for a new device for Apple and the faults found will be incorporated in the next devices. Plus by the time most people get an X in their hands we will be a good way to the next round of devices.

Hope you come back to let us know what you think about your first choice. I think that all of the choices (8, 8 Plus, X) are great! This is the first time this has happened. I expected something special for the 10th Anniversary but never would have predicted this. You would think everyone would be happy but some are discontent and tend to bash one model over another. Anyway, I'm thrilled to have this opportunity!
