Looks like iPhone 7s (32gb unlocked) are still going for $400-$500 on eBay. Of course the value will drop once the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are announced but the fact remains, selling your iPhone 7 cuts the price of the iPhone X to around $600 which is a much easier pill to swallow. For those who don't want to deal with eBay or Craigslist, it looks like apple will give you $350 for the same iPhone.

Still though, this is a very expensive gadget. I hope Apple has plenty of tricks (besides the info that has already leaked) to convince people to spend the extra money for the X. Especially when the competitions similar sized OLED phones are selling for a cheaper price.

As a developer, I'm pretty much pushed to getting the X. Especially if this new resolution ends up becoming the standard on future iPhones. Too bad developers don't get a discount....

My bad. "If you can't afford it, don't buy it", sounded like telling people what to or what not to do.

There was an IF in there and it's more of suggestion, if someone can't afford something it's common sense they shouldn't buy it.

People's addiction to technology and their devices (including myself (c:= ) has ruled out common sense a long time ago.

I see a lot of people complaining about the price and criticizing people who choose to pay a thousand dollars.

So are you leaving Apple? Because the price isn't going down next year or the year after.

The iPhone 4 16GB was £499, I expect it was roughly the same in dollars. Some people think the rise to circa £900 is surprising.

Discuss.

Well, next year you will be able to buy this year's model for less. I'll be keeping my 6+ another year and do that if the price remains as rumored. Not interested in the same 6/7 design.

But honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the X stands for "tenth anniversary" and is a one-off. Next year all iPhones use that design. One line, no more numbers or plus models. But even if it doesn't happen next year, at some point it will.

Pass. My 7 is still running great. I don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling it and still spending $600 just to basically get a better screen.

7 years of inflation + reduction of £ from ~$1.60 in 2010 to ~$1.30 today = higher number for same value? Also I believe the bill of materials/ components year on year has gone up successively as Apple has sourced ever better components like retina -> larger retina HD -> P3 Retina screen, 5MP -> 8MP -> 12MP camera with increasing sensor size etc.

Pass on a $999 full price. I am starting to feel that this iPhone X might be extremely overhyped considering what functionality it may offer me.

OLED screen? Do not need it, even though they're great. Many phones offer that as well. What's the point of a big screen if it's not being utilized properly?

Don't need 4k 60 FPS recording or 240 FPS 1080p recording. Slow wireless charging with a proprietary setup? No thanks. No headphone jack either, so that makes it harder to utilize audio in a car since I rely on AUX.

Face ID might be amazing, but it's not worth shelling out a ton of $ for that because it will not make or break the user experience for me.

Considering the LG G6 costs up to half of the iPhone X will? That is a complete joke I can get 2-3 of LG G6s if I know where to look besides T-Mobile's $500 price.

I am not touching that phone at full price. If they incentivize people via trade ins, then that's a different story. I am not clinging onto iOS like others are because I can do just as well with Android.

I think if they charge $900 it will be a no brainer for many people that are jonesing for that 10th anniversary

I paid $879 for my 128GB 7+ last year, another $21 is nothing

$1000 is another psychological barrier, I still maintain, even though its “only $100 more” since people that buy Apple products can usually rationalize the increase for more storage, etc.

Especially with tax in the mix

But my guess is as good or bad as anyone’s

Tuesday cant come soon enough! The pricing is one of the things i’m Most curious about since the GM firmware wont tell us that :p

Luckily I don't need more than 64gb and I'll go with the entry level model. I don't feel great about paying $750 for the last phone and now it's going to be $1,000, but I gave my 6S to a family member and I cannot stand using the Galaxy S8 that I currently have.

I don't know why everyone freaks out about a $1,000 price tag. I don't know about anyone else but me personally I use my iPhone for everything I do. Pictures, emails, web browsing. I get way more use out of my iPhone than my laptop. The $1,000 price tag does not seem bad when you really think about how much you use it.

I don’t think its necessarily justifying as something you’ll use, most people are glued to their phones, just take a walk around anywhere... its more resell value is on a downswing cause of market saturation and relative product maturity, and asking price for a new model is on the upswing, and the gap is getting wider every year.

Do I really feel like buying a $1000+tax phone that I’ll get ~$400 range for next year, and have to fork over that same amount to stay in the premium tier?

Not really... but we’ll see

i'm going to buy one but I'm pissed at the price. I don't view the iPhone 8/X/Edition as anything other than minor incremental update and it catches the iPhone up to what the competitors have been offering for years.
What I'm mostly pissed about is that I think the carriers and manufacturers are in cahoots with each other to artificially inflate the prices of soon to be obsolete smartphones. At these price points they know more people will be financing these phones and the scumbag carriers only offer financing on their most expensive plans. This leaves people stuck with an expensive plan on a 2 year financing agreement, or contract. We used to get subsidies for that, now we're just getting screwed. Maybe some people don't mind being suckered but I'm not one of those people and if I didn't have so much invested in iOS I'd walk away from this BS scam.

I want to go on on record as someone who currently has a wireless charging phone. I rarely use it. At first i did, however having to place the device perfectly on the pad and slower charging speeds although i do have a quick charging pad its just as simple to plug the phone in. Aside from being able to charge up at starbucks, at home plugging it in vs placing it on a pad is like a 2 second difference with plugging in giving you faster charging.

I will buy it anyway,I am totally bored from this 6 series design, and i really need change :).Rumored touch id embedded in the edge to edge OLED display and flushed dual back camera is the most i am excited about this year :D

Edit :- flushed dual camera like this one

I was looking at this post and was excited for in-display embedded TouchID, until I realized this was May 2017.... :(

If storage starts at 128GB like I've read in another thread just now then I think I have jumped the gun a bit regarding pricing. £1,000 for 128GB internal storage is expensive but not excessively. I thought it was £1,000 for 64GB. If the former is the case then I'm back in for the iPhone X.
