It was another posted article. I believe Apple was sitting at the fourth spot, and claimed that many were holding off till the iPhone 2017 release.

Too obvious.

I was referring to the Galaxy S8 release. The leaks seem to show that while samsung has done a good job of increasing screen size, they haven't developed new tech to do so. The fingerprint scanner has been moved to the back, and the Samsung logo removed from the front to save room. Nothing like the rumours for iPhone 8.

While Samsung is working on bendable phones no leaks show it is close to releasing a bendable Galaxy S.

Interesting. So the mic is a bit of a drain on it eh? Duly noted. Would it still last longer than 4 hours?

To be honest, my only really lengthy experience using the mic is with FaceTime, and it seems to last about 2-2.5. When listening to music, I have never had them drop below 50% in my daily usage.

Been a while since I said this before.

If these rumors about the iPhone 8 are all or at least mostly true, then Apple would have to shut up and take my money.

Samsung CEO has announced in 2016 that Samsung will be releasing a bendable/folding phone in 2017. Release is unknown when in 2017. They have the technology and they have demonstrated it for a number of years, its exciting times.

Given the design of the 7 was just a 6s, this may actually be true this year.

But who are we kidding? Most of the apple products are outdated, and even when they aren't, they are with older architecture. OS experience is top notch, but the hardware....its been a while since I have been blown away/ them adopting new tech.

Good lord no.

I own the Apple Watch and hate the default shapeless blob of apps configuration.

Also as an owner of an Apple Watch, I would at least like the option to configure apps in a honeycomb rather than a 7x4 grid.
Don't be so closed minded.

Apple can embed pressure sensitive buttons in the rim of the phone, they still have the liquid metal license. No buttons will be seen just invisible and pressure sensitive. Boom magic.

That sounds about as innovative as Windows 8's hidden start button in desktop mode. The best user experience ever, having to try to find invisible buttons. :D

When Apple does it, its is magical. ;):D

No problem, I thought most people on here were familiar with that regrettable "Marketing over Engineering" compromise, but here is that link.

They've used that 'terraced' tech before in the MacBook and it seems somewhat lamentable that the only reason we didn't get it included in the latest update (after so patiently waiting for new MBPs) is because of marketing deadlines. So un-Apple like.
If that truly is the reason for lack of terrace, I agree. I think the battery life is fine, however I do not use it often off the charger.

Can't believe I missed that story, but fair enough. I would say, I don't buy the reasoning 100%. It had been a long time since the upgrade, and the people who were waiting were mostly techies...they would have continued to way till April/May. The average consumer would have purchased what is now the previous model and Apple would have made more $$$ since those parts are much cheaper than when it was released.

You obviously haven't kept up with the news. Normally however you would be right, but with this year being the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, rumours and analysts are saying that Apple will skip the 7s and go straight to the 8.

Apple has NEVER done an Anniversary product for 10yrs ... WHY would they start now?! Just cause a news rumours?!

TAM - 20% Anniversary!
No other anniversary products.

I'm not buying into the "11th model" iPhone to be a special edition anniversary!
Why?
iPhone, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6, 6S, 7 (that's 10 models already!)
iPhone SE ... that is a "special edition" would be dumb to call another model a 2yrs later to be an anniversary/special edition model.

All of these iPhone 8 rumors seem too good to be true. A iPhone 7S this year just seems more likely. I really hope I'm wrong though.

An iPhone 8 seems likely considering the 7 is closer to a 6ss. Meaning, changes to the 7 were light in order to concentrate efforts on the 8.

I swear these concepts have looked the same since about 2010. I bought the 7 Plus on the basis that I have no faith in them releasing the 8 the year. i'm ready to be proven wrong, Apple...

I think in the end, the iPhone 8 will look something like this:

1. Take the rumored final design of the Samsung Galaxy S8.
2. Make it a tad thinner and with a real glass back made from the latest version of Corning's Gorilla Glass (or its equivalent).
3. Beneath the glass back, the back will have colors of Jet Black, Jet White, Space Gray, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold.
4. Dual-sensor rear camera--an improved version of the iPhone 7 Plus camera.
5. It will retain the Lightning connector.
6. Screen will be AMOLED with no side bezels. No more physical Home button, replaced by a virtual version on the bottom center of the screen with Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the virtual Home button area.
7. A11 SoC using an improved version of the two big core and two small core A10 design.
8. 4 GB of RAM.
9. 32, 128 and 256 GB of local storage.
10. NFC support for all commonly used standards, including NFC Type F on all worldwide models (which will allow everyone to have true "touch and go" payments for transit tickets and other payment systems).
11. Bluetooth 5 support for higher-bandwidth wireless audio to compatible wireless headphones. The Bluetooth 5 functionality is a superset of the Apple W1 chip used on the iPhone 7 models, so will also work with Apple and Beats wireless headphones that support W1.

I agree with that assessment, but tell that to Tim. There seems to be an obsession with profits lately, and I for one miss the days when flawless engineering (and especially better debugged software), took precedence over marketing pressures.

When Apple still attended MacWorld (usually in January), they used to introduce there at the show, new products, or existing product updates almost without fail. The reason given at the time for no longer attending MacWorld was that this was putting too much pressure on their engineering teams to meet fixed show deadlines, especially in light of the fact that Apple does not control the timing of new components and tech coming on stream, which explanation seemed perfectly plausible at the time.

Fast forward to today and, despite having made some headway in the area of parts design and procurement, Apple currently still does not have complete control over the parts that make up their various products, and most of these components are introduced throughout the year, not just 6 mos before Christmas.

Lately however, the bulk of Apple's product updates are introduced in cq3 or early cq4 so that shipping dates coincide with the holiday shopping season. Coincidence or calculated profit maximization? You be the judge.

Yeah, that does discount it a bit, but I was really just meaning the 10th anniversary (not necessarily 10 iPhone iterations).
Iphone
3G
3GS
4
4s
5
5s
5c
6
6s
7
Wouldn't that make the 7/plus the 11th generation?

The 5c, just like the SE, don't count as a generation.

Btw, the consensus for the 10th anniversary (11th generation) seems to be iPhone8, eight being a lucky number in China, one of Apple's most important emerging markets, and a country where a large proportion of the population still holds on to some superstitions of the past.

We should finally know by September.

I'm not saying that they will call it the anniversary edition. And it will be 10 years since Steve Jobs announced it on stage, not how many phones were released. Apple didn't change the design or even very much for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (which I'm fine with I love my 7 Plus) so that's something that's out of the norm for a numbered model for a start. Add to the fact that reliable analyst's have all said the same thing, I think there will be an iPhone 8 or iPhone X.

There's something to be said about wasting time and resources on an option which nobody will use.

Too obvious.

How about just "iX".... oh, wait... that's actually just 9! D'oh!

Sorry. Made me think of this pic when I saw it. An option is okay. But, for me, that's REALLY hideous.
