If this is true, I would actually be happy with the base model. First time in my life where I say the top model would be absolutely too much for me though. I could't fill half a terabyte of space on a phone if I tried, unless I kept recording video and never deleted. It helps that I stream all content these days.

Glad to see Apple opening their eyes to this though. 16gb was base for far too long.
Bought the 256 GB for my 7 because I was sick of running out of memory. I have 4,000 songs, 6,000 photos, 250 HD videos, 23 Full HD movies, and an entire season of Game of Thrones....and STILL have 40GB free.

I can't imagine who would need a 512 GB iPhone.

Just do 128/256/512. Apple are so petty lmao.
You are absolutely right however they won't do that because 1: they are simply doubling the storage configurations 2: going from 32 gig to 128 gig will canabalize the 256 and 512 gig sizes in sales. But yeah trust me I'm with you in that.

Yep I will be trading on my NEXT plan. Just have to pay sales tax and its a simple trade.

I'll be doing that as well. Technically, AT&T says you have to trade the old phone in within 14 days, but I'm pretty sure they let you keep it until the new phone arrives.

I have a feeling, Apple might have been planning to release the iPhone 8 next year, but given the competition from all the phones... Samsung *cough* *cough* LG *cough* *cough* they are forced to release two phones this year or Apple knows more will jump the Apple bandwagon over to Android.

Apple makes a lot of money increasing their storage. I love that I bought a 256 7+. I record my sons basketball games, videos and photos on trips, and some for work as well. I am using 165 GB on my phone, AFTER I erased several of my sons games already downloaded to his computer. Every time I upgrade a phone, I start off with the total storage used from my last phone.

For people who use a lot of storage, they need somewhere to back it up. Sure I could back it up to a hard drive, but that is a consistently intentional process, and what if I lose my phone? I can't really back it all up on my laptop, which has 512 storage, because I have other large files on their outside of videos on my camera.

This drives a lot of people to iCloud storage, which has a great 2.99 200 gb plan. However, between my laptop and computer, I really need a higher plan. Strangely enough, the next option up from 2.99 200 gb is 9.99 2 tb plan. Now in addition to my music plan I am compelled to pay another 9.99 a month for a 2 tb storage plan.

For now, I'm staying with the 2.99 plan and being intentional about what I back up and what I don't. However, for many, its just easier to pay 9.99 and be done with it, just like its easier to pay 150 for bluetooth headphones and not worry about dongles. And I bet they make better price margins on plans and peripherals than on the iPhone -its said to be around 60% for services. Price margins are what makes Apple worth so much, and they are masters at manipulating human behavior, including mine, even as I write this.
