Average users like me will be very happy to see a 64GB base model. I still have 33GB free on my iPhone SE and at the rate I use my camera or acquire music I am in no danger of hitting that ceiling any time soon.

16GB was laughable. 32GB was livable with some compromise. 64GB is the sweet spot.

Base models for me from here on out ;)

So what you are saying is you hope an additional $100 you will spend on a higher tier storage is for a slower piece of hardware? Who taught you how to shop

With 4K @60fps that’s double the file size. With their new screen recording capabilities that’s more files to take up space. Higher tier storage will not only bring more space but also faster loading speeds

By slower tier of hardware, what do you mean?

SSD's work faster the more capacity they have since it is NAND technology.....

Lots of people actually shoot professionally on iPhone these days, as a second shooter or even as primary camera. You don't always have time to download and edit immediately.
Professionally?

Who needs ****in 256GB or even 512GB in a smartphone?
Even some of new MacBooks got less that that!
I still have more than enough with my iPhone SE 16GB.
Never needed more.

Those people who transfer ALL music to their iPhones are SICK.
Why dont you just stream? Use Apple Music, use amazon prime, soundcloud whatever!
I wonder why people still download instead of streaming.
And with the iCloud and other clouds, nobody needs to save all the stuff local on the phone.
Just backup in the cloud all of your ****in photos, videos, music whatever.

So people without unlimited date plans and are different to you are SICK?
Sometimes its good to pause before pressing submit on a post.

The majority of people don’t get anywhere near 32 gig let alone 64 - it’s just us tekkie minority who care so much about 128 or above ..
I would say its more people with media. I'm currently using 40GB out of 60GB
[doublepost=1503569311][/doublepost]
Did they force you to buy the 16gb? Gun point? By knife? Just curious
No but they encouraged them to buy more than 16GB, that is probably their point. Apple gouges most of the time

Can someone explain me what's the point of a 64bit cpu if it is to have so few ram?

From my understanding pointer size in 64bit code is larget than in 32, so the more ram there is the better it is right?

Here in Switzerland we have 4G+ everywhere, doesnt matter on the top of a snowy mountain, tunnel or in the city. The cloud is ultra fast.
In 2 years we get 5G and download/upload with 10Gbit/s.
Who will need 512GB or 1TB memory then?
I have all my files stored in dropbox and OneDrive which I then sync to my iOS devices via the documents app (and likely the files app in iOS 11).

The fastest data connection in the world still doesn't change the fact that I have a ton of files downloaded to my phone. Looks like I will be getting a 256gb iPhone.

512 would be awesome. I could hold all my music again.

Holy crap , didn't even realize how much it actually is , until you put it that way.

I was thinking in terms of video, didn't realize that I still have all (most) of my music on 160Gb classic iPod, and could easily fit it on 256Gb iPhone ... Sweet jezus!

Secondly, funny how in a couple of years Apple went from one supposedly holding back storage capacity , to ones actually pushing the limit!

I agree with that statement 3 years ago. I use to be the person that could get away with an 8GB phone. Now, by default, all of your documents, photos, etc. are on all of your devices all of the time. The person with an ipad/iphone has easily doubled their storage compared to previous times where each device was separate. Plus videos take up a lot more space being 4K. Apple has really altered storage compared to a few years ago. Their version of the "cloud" is a lot different than dropbox, box, google drive, etc.

My habits have not really changed at all in that time frame, just the way Apple has decided to store documents and photos.

edit: oh, and I don't even store music/movies on any of my devices. That is all streamed.
I get what you're saying, but if this rumor is true, it means the iPhone will have gone like this:

iPhone 6S: 16/64/128
iPhone 7: 32/128/256
iPhone 8: 64/256/512

I feel like anyone who complains about this is just looking for things to feel entitled about. Every product I've ever owned has a bottom-of-the-line and a top-of-the-line. If 64gb isn't enough, then get the larger model. I have never bought a car and complained that it didn't have heated seats when I paid for the basic model. And in this case, every model iPhone is exactly the same... storage is the only difference.

From what I understand, the IPhone 8 64GB and 256GB models will have cheaper storage (made by Toshiba and Sandisk), while the 512GB would be produced by Samsung and Hynix and will have the faster spped

I completely agree, the options are there. I just would like a Pro model, at the rumored price, to start with a "Pro" amount of storage.

Can anyone actually feel real life differences? I know that always comes up with each iphone, but is there any real world difference? On a Mac there is a difference in speed test, but will anyone actually be able to feel it.

3 GB RAM, while enough for now, is still Apple bean counters at work. While my current phone probably does nothing with its massive 6 GB, it's nice to know I don't have to worry about running out of memory. 4 GB to match the iPad Pro would have been better.

64 GB disk space is still fine for those who don't intend to carry a big library of media but again Apple really wants people to go for the 256 model for a slight upcharge to pad their profits.

It wasn't so long ago that people were complaining as to how Apple was still selling a base 16gb iOS device, never mind that the 64gb model was also available.

Now that the base storage is 64gb, people are complaining about the lack of a 128gb model.

If I needed any more convincing that the people here are really just complaining for the sake of complaining...

Do you think 256 would be passable, if taking mostly pictures and a few videos? Or is 512 better?
In my situation, I would have to factor in my residential internet service as well because of the usage cap. For example, my internet tier hard cap is at 1TB/mo. If I'm to get the 512Gb model and load it up with stuff, it wouldn't take too much backup/restore to push me over the cap and Cox charges an arm and a leg for overage.

I could get away with 256, but I would probably keep the phone for at least 2 years so 512 might make the most sense. I have a 512gb Mac, and since they share files it would make sense. It's always best to get the most storage you can afford. There is nothing worse than having to manage storage.

have you ever considered that not EVERYBODY can stream all the time.

As for my career, i spend a LOT of time on the road, and a lot of the time I'm out of range of most cellular service.

considering I'm usually driving back and forth from california or new mexico, or colorado and my home in arizona, with a lot of time passing through Yuma, or similarly desolate and empty places with little or no cellular service, usually on drives that can take upwards of 12-18 hours? am i supposed to BOW down to your standards of streaming and keep the same 1-2 playlists of a few hundreds songs downloaded?

I'm sorry but that does not work for me. i do a minimum of 30+ hours a week driving through no cell signal alone. i prefer to have a higher storage so i can keep a lot of my music stored for these specific times when i CANT stream constantly.
the same goes for my camera. i make a living off of exotic and local Fauna/reptiles/inverts, and if i happen to be taking a pit stop somewhere and run across a Rare centipede, or seldom scene tarantula or arachnid species, I'm going to stop and take some pictures and videos of it, and they are going to be in 4k.

and this is not counting the weekly/monthly trips i take out into the literal wilderness "herping". basicly going through the mountains and deserts, on foot with a group of fellow enthusiasts and breeders, looking for said rare fauna and invertebrates. how am i supposed to stream spotify or apple music while 5,000+ feet in elevation in the middle of a mountain range in the middle of the sonoran desert, literally hundreds of miles from he closest city or town with a cell tower? am i supposed to sacrifice and suffer, and spend time with an outdated SE 16gb like you, simply because you live a comfy life constantly tethered to your wifi?
I'm sorry but that simply is not acceptable. I like that Apple understands that not everybody is constantly sitting up home with wifi and cell service, some of us actually need the storage to keep our information.

Price likely to start at around $999 according to the New York Times. Really hope they don't pull the trick of replacing $ for £ here in the UK.

£780 I could maybe live with, £1000 and I am out.

i mean, knowing apple the prices won't change all that much. since the iPhone 6 the prices have ben roughly the same price tier's

649/749/849 for the normal model (6/6s/7)
and
749/849/949 for the plus models(6+/6s+/7+)
with the only exception being a 20$ bump in the 7+ models.

and this is despite them doubling their storage tiers from 16/64/128 to 32/128/256 for the 7/7+ models. i dont see why this particular product release would be any different, with possibly the only exception being the third model, the "8" that might get released. but the 7s/7s+ should follow the same pricing tiers.

Oh yeah I don't think the 7s/7s Plus models will change but there seems to be a consensus among all of the rumours that the OLED model will be around $1000.

which may be true. but if you think about it, for a product thats rumored to offer more then the 7s+, its only rumored to be less then 100$ more?
the 7s+ top tier, if it follows the precedent set for the past 3-4 years, should be convertibly at 969$(which people will say is a huge increase and is horrible despite being the norm for 3+years)
if the top tier is 1000$ that is not actually all that much more.

When they say $1000 I think they mean starting from $1000.
