Welcome to the world of Apple products where literally the world anticipates, gossips, leaks blurry photos, argues and designs conceptual 3D renderings of unannounced products in anticipation of a keynote announcement that usually surpasses the leaks. What other company has this kind of free publicity? It's become an industry! Google's Android OS and phones are covered in the press and anticipated by the tech media, but it doesn't compare to the attention and yes, sometimes unwanted attention, that Apple's products receive.

Hope the speed of the SSD is not different between 256 GB and 512 GB. Saying so since the iPhone 7 was the fastest when tested on benchmarks with the 256 GB version.
So what you are saying is you hope an additional $100 you will spend on a higher tier storage is for a slower piece of hardware? Who taught you how to shop

Barely passable? What are you recording, your whole day? I think the battery runs out before your memory is full. Also cloud storage.
With 4K @60fps that’s double the file size. With their new screen recording capabilities that’s more files to take up space. Higher tier storage will not only bring more space but also faster loading speeds

3 gigs of ram is disappointing. It's the lack of ram that eventually slows down devices and leads to crashing of apps. Guess Apple needs some hook to make people eventually upgrade.

I just wish we could get PIP on our phones!

My 6 i think has only 1gb. Runs fine. Though ios11 lags here and there, so it seems about the right time for an upgrade :)

What is it you like? Increasing the base storage or increasing the base price?

Base price for an iPhone use to be $650 usd, then when the plus got released the base price went up to $770. Now it is rumored to start at $1000.

Yeah there is still the $650 model but that has been same design for 3 years now and features are being held back so they can go in the more expensive models. When features are held back, the "new base " model is the $1000 one.

Base price will still be 650

7S $649
7S PLUS $749
10th anniversary PRO No bezel, 3d facial recognition $849

Iphones come out every year in either S or non S versions since 4 - 4, 4S year after, 5 year after, 5S year after. OK we had other versions of 3 but since 4 we had the S the year after.

Why do we need a release of 7S/7S+ AND 8 at the same time? Makes no sense. Really questionable marketing. And what is even stranger is, no one is questioning it, everyone just adopts this idea as if it were normal. It's the most bizarre release strategy seen in Iphone releases. But if you look at other categories in tech releases, any category, it also makes no sense:

"Good morning everyone, today we are here to show you the latest version of the TopGadget, namely ......... the TopGadget of this year and its bigger sibling, the TopGadget PLUS of this year. I know, I know, you have all been waiting a year for this and we know you are going to love it. Here's the specs oooh and a video showing it off to make you feel warm and fuzzy <crowd ooh's and aah's - mad zealot applause>. Here's the price and it's out soon, we know you will love it"

...And that is par for the course. The show ends. People whup out their cards and prebuy and so on.

But this doesn't actually happen this year. Because just as the crowd are digesting the new TopGadget of the year and weighing up pros and cons (they had already decided to buy impressed or not), the manufacturer pulls them back in: "THERE"S MORE" ?? What?? How? "We also are massively proud to announce that we have on sale in a couple of weeks........ NEXT YEAR'S TOP GADGET WITH EVEN MORE OOOOOHH"

What? Sure it costs more but this screams of 'they will not be that interested in the 7/7+->7S/7S+" so let's introduce a higher priced, next gen, higher spec'd version of TopGadget that.... makes the about to be released TopGadget(2017)/TopGadget(2017)+ look inferior?

And no one finds it weird..

I know that, I didn't say it was anything to do with storage space. My point was, what good is h.265 saving you space when you can't play h.265 on the other devices you may own.

If technology waited for everyone to upgrade we would never get anything new.

You know the SSD in your Mac and the Flash in your iOS devices are different, right? They have different archetechtures, rated differently, different speeds, different lifespan, different costs for manufacturing and more.

Totally knew that. Totally. And if anyone asks you can back me up that I knew that.

I think starting at $949 would be competitive with the Note 8.

Unlike Samsung, Apple doesn't lower prices midway through the cycle, so this price would remain until September 2018.

iPhone X: $649 (64GB), $749 (256GB), $849 (512GB)
iPhone X Plus: $769 (64GB), $869 (256GB), $969 (512GB)
iPhone X Edition (AKA "iPhone 8"): $899 (64GB), $999 (256GB), $1099 (512GB)

You understand, they definitely wouldn't name them all X?

It would be iPhone 7s, 7s Plus and X.

The premium iPhone has to have a significantly differentiating marketing terminology to draw attention to it. It NEEDS a marketing term to tell people to look at it, to tell people that this isn't just another iterative iPhone like the last 3 years. Same reason it won't be 'Pro'.

They're definitely all going to have the same naming convention. And X makes the most sense based on what we've seen.

The one thing that should be obvious is that there's no way in hell they're gonna call any of these 7-anything.

When the world had moved on to 16 gig of ram apple will still insist 3 is perfectly fine.

Here in Switzerland we have 4G+ everywhere, doesnt matter on the top of a snowy mountain, tunnel or in the city. The cloud is ultra fast.
In 2 years we get 5G and download/upload with 10Gbit/s.
Who will need 512GB or 1TB memory then?

Sadly the rest of the world is not that good - here in australia there are still patches in Major cities where there is no good 4g reception.

iPhone XXX?

Also there's no way the iPhone 8 starts at $899. You know the Note 8 is 960 USD, 999 EUR right?

Soon the 'minimum' capacity will be all anyone even needs as this will be so high.

If not, then stop using it to fill it up... :)

Might be the first time, I don't go for the top capacity for my new iPhone. I have about 60GB left on my current 128GB one.

With Spotify, iTunes Match (yes, Match) and iCloud, I don't need as much. That being said, I have never regretted opting for the top capacity.

Like some people on this thread, I could keep all my music on my phone and then some. Plus 4K videos...

I guess I just convinced myself!

Having the same name would mean Apple is using high school students as their marketing team.

The marketing is pretty simple, you name the two iterative iPhones the 7s and 7s Plus, and you name the massive upgrade a distinctly different, new name specifically to draw attention to the very profound new features and design. You want every single person reading ALL news publications on the day of the event to be drawn to see what this new iPhone is about, be drawn to see that it is NOT what they've come to expect as of late, which is iterative updates to iPhone as seen with the 6s and 7. That is why the marketing is so important this year. You cannot have your marketing team fail miserably by using the same naming across the board and/or using 'Pro' terminology. It is extremely important that they have a catchy new terminology that makes everyone who thinks 'ehh iphone is iphone, same thing' look to see what this iPhone is about.

Also, the problem with X is that what do you call the 2018 iPhones?

iPhone X2 and iPhone X2 Plus? Wouldn't work. iPhone XI and iPhone XI Plus? Definitely not. People also believe iPhones will drop the numbering. You can't drop the numbering on iPhones, it's pivotal to the marketing of a device that sells hundreds of millions a year and has short upgrade cycles.

I'd be surprised if they charged $849 but I hope they do..

So are you guys going to play the online preorder game or try to go to the store and preorder one?

Still debating on the black or white model, maybe even the rust if the face is black.

I sort of like the white model face...i know i know but not sure how that would work for videos.
I have wifi at home and work so for me 64GB is still the way for me to go. I have Amazon Prime and that gives me unlimited photo storage.
