Iphones come out every year in either S or non S versions since 4 - 4, 4S year after, 5 year after, 5S year after. OK we had other versions of 3 but since 4 we had the S the year after.
Why do we need a release of 7S/7S+ AND 8 at the same time? Makes no sense. Really questionable marketing. And what is even stranger is, no one is questioning it, everyone just adopts this idea as if it were normal. It's the most bizarre release strategy seen in Iphone releases. But if you look at other categories in tech releases, any category, it also makes no sense:
"Good morning everyone, today we are here to show you the latest version of the TopGadget, namely ......... the TopGadget of this year and its bigger sibling, the TopGadget PLUS of this year. I know, I know, you have all been waiting a year for this and we know you are going to love it. Here's the specs oooh and a video showing it off to make you feel warm and fuzzy <crowd ooh's and aah's - mad zealot applause>. Here's the price and it's out soon, we know you will love it"
...And that is par for the course. The show ends. People whup out their cards and prebuy and so on.
But this doesn't actually happen this year. Because just as the crowd are digesting the new TopGadget of the year and weighing up pros and cons (they had already decided to buy impressed or not), the manufacturer pulls them back in: "THERE"S MORE" ?? What?? How? "We also are massively proud to announce that we have on sale in a couple of weeks........ NEXT YEAR'S TOP GADGET WITH EVEN MORE OOOOOHH"
What? Sure it costs more but this screams of 'they will not be that interested in the 7/7+->7S/7S+" so let's introduce a higher priced, next gen, higher spec'd version of TopGadget that.... makes the about to be released TopGadget(2017)/TopGadget(2017)+ look inferior?
And no one finds it weird..
