I agree with that as stated. I just don't see them implementing all that for a one off generation. I could be wrong but I think these are very early rumors for the 2018 iPhone. Just imho though. These rumors are also a lot of recently patented stuff which wouldn't make sense for the timeline given these new phones will be out in ~6-7 months. And they will be producing them in 2-3 I would think. I don't rule out they might change the form factor slightly this year, but I doubt it. Maybe slightly.

I think it will be in-screen at a fixed place, without a dimple. Tech will be the same , but the black glass will be replaced by transparant cover glass, with a drawing of a virtual homebutton in its place in the rumored function area. So the taptic engine creating the illusion of pressing a button will be the same. This will be so on the iphone 8/x model. 7s/plus will use the same homebutton as the 7/plus.
But where will touchid go on the 8/x. I somehow doubt it will be in the virtual/button in-screen.

Another thing:
I think the 7s should keep the design of the 7. With updated faster/soc, faster wifi/cellular and perhaps a higher res display(but still 4.7 inch), for the entry level.
But why make an entirely new iphone 8/x with a smaller usuable screen area then the 7+ for more $.
To up the asp, i think it would be wise from apple to update the 7s+ even more. So release a 7s+ with basically the same physical size :dimensions and body/design, ipgraded soc, cellular/wifi and camera' s. But with smaller bezels with a slightly bigger lcd display of 5.7 inch , with a slightly higher res of: 2208x1242( this is the internal res of the 6+, 6s+ and 7+, but in those models it is scaled back by the gpu to 1920x1080p res because of the 1920x1080p display).
At perhaps the same price as the iphone 8/x.

I would really be torn which one i would get . The iphone 8/x or the iphone 7s+. But that is always a good sign. 2 ultra high end iphones to choose from.

But you don't more than 1GB DRAM since specs don't matter.
IMO specs should not matter, only the actual user experience. If it takes only 1GB to present a good user experience, then that's fine. Problem is, many applications – either due to the nature of the app or the ignorant, lazy nature of app developers and the frameworks they use – use up a lot of runtime memory, possibly tied up in ways that iOS cannot swap out quickly enough to present a snappy experience, as an example. The onus then is on Apple to find the right balance between hardware capability, user experience and cost/price. One doesn't simply through RAM at the problem. That can just foster poor application design.

What is the matter? Apple started selling 2gb almost 3 years ago. Nowadays i wouldn' t get an iphone with 1gb anymore. 2 to 3 years ago, it didn' t matter as much as it does now, and 1gb was enough, and even then there were a lot of apple fans that were disappointed with 1gb of the 6/+ a few weren' t and made the statements that it didn't matter. I was not one of them.
But it didn' t stop me from getting the iphone 6. It ran fine, and even now it is fast enough.
What i am trying to say is: why always qouting reactions from a few apple fans from 2.5 years ago. In tech things change pretty fast, especially in the smartphone market.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread... maybe I should have?

I see that the iPhone 8+ has 2GB of ram but the iPhone 7+ had 3GB??? Can anyone confirm, I'm having a hard time confirming this.

It has 3 GB of ram. I think this was specified in the Keynote. And on Forbes:
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus - Apple A11 ‘Bionic’ chipset: Six Core CPU, Six Core GPU, M11 motion coprocessor, 3GB RAM (iPhone 8 Plus), 2GB RAM (iPhone 8)

No problem. If you happen to come across information confirming one way or another if any of the new iPhones can record stereo audio for videos, please let me know. I'm having trouble finding that information out so early in the game. I suspect I'm the only person who cares about this feature finally making it onto an IPhone. I love it on my Android phones.
