This would be great, I can see why the iPhone 8 is going to cost more, with OLED, better battery tech, rumours of face or retina scanning and so on, it will be worth it in my opinion. I wonder if they will also add another colour option?

Blue would be nice. Like a steel blue.

That also don't stand up to the charge cycle amounts that Apple/The Entire Industry needs, or can't be massed produced yet.

We all know there are better battery technology on the way, the industry is investing like crazy in R&D. They'll get here, but it makes no sense to stand still in current tech while working on them.
Those problems are down to refinement and also investment. The speed at which they're moving could be faster if more focus was put towards it, but I agree.

Who says they are not doing that, plus exploring other options?
They probably are but its not their priority (which is surprising given the limitations that batteries put on designs).

They should focus on emerging battery technologies and rather than trying to fit as much battery as possible into the design.

That "3-5 years" period will remain the same if a large company like Apple don't invest in some of the new battery technologies.

Well said arm chair engineer. I'm sure the 1000 battery engineer's they have didn't come up with that idea.

Awesome.

The competition starts to lag WAY behind Apple as core technologies/industrial processes are concerned.

This bodes well for small wearable devices that "only Apple will be able to build". And this is why Apple will dominate the AR field, where miniaturization is the name of the game.

I've got a 7+ but I'm definitely going to a smaller size with the 8. The main reason I went with the plus is just the 1080p screen which is actually noticeable when you swap back to the normal 7. Just give me a smaller body and 3x display with longer battery and I'll be happy.

Given the number of products they have do design batteries for, they likely don't have the time and Apple don't have the resources to put towards it. Of course they are doing something about improving battery technology, I never said otherwise.

The iPhone 8 rumours are on fire today!

I still can't believe we'll get 3 iPhones in one year.

We got 3 phones last year -- SE, 7, 7 Plus. It's not quantity, but quality. I do like the rumors I'm hearing. OLED, better battery for the middle screen model. If it has an optical zoom then that is the trifecta.

Indeed. No buttons = I'm sold!

I'd think given the amount of products they have to do batteries designed for, Apple stands the most to benefit from large breakthroughs in battery technology.
They are actively investing, whether it be in the success of another company that they have interest in (example, TouchID from AuthenTec) or from inside of their own walls (3D Touch). It's kind of silly to think otherwise.

Lol, I'm pretty sure they've got someone on that.

It's time to move on from the current battery technology and only involve companies that are allies and are trusted.

Trusted?
You don't think they have a division just on battery tech?
