iPhone 8 to Feature 5.8-Inch OLED Display With 5.15-Inch Main Screen and Virtual Buttons Below

This won't matter to most but as someone that is waiting to see the 8 I would decline with that much waste for virtual buttons. Just my personal opinion. A 5.8 inch phone with smaller bezels finally but actual screen size of a 5"? Sorry, I would prefer the bezel with a mechanical button.

That being said I am waiting until it actually hits as anything goes at this point.

Yes. They are very confusing.
Before purchasing, need to consider the size factor. Then choose among the 5 Colours.
It especially confusing when the two models, i7 and i7 plus share different features. The i7 have dual camera with potrait mode.
I can't imagine if there is a third option pop up.

Interesting. Personally I prefer the Plus version, and I know a lot of people that like the smaller size better. I'd hate to see that option disappear. It doesn't seem that confusing to me.

I've owned two nexus devices and the onscreen buttons are just fine. It also allows more space for screen and smaller bezels. Haters gonna hate got hates sake.

I have a Nexus 6p and prefer the on-screen buttons, but I could see how some people done like it. I wouldn't call them haters. You're dead on about the extra screen space.

i never said the iphone 7 home button isn't tactile. there's a groove around the button that you can feel.
[doublepost=1487280746][/doublepost]
they're not fine. i have a nexus phone. i missed the home button by accident so i had to look down on the phone and tap it. it sucks.
[doublepost=1487280795][/doublepost]
how do you go home? there's going to be a home function. whether it's an on screen button or something on the side of the phone.
[doublepost=1487280838][/doublepost]
if it's completely flat then it sucks. i need to feel the button so i won't miss tap it.
[doublepost=1487280912][/doublepost]
huh?
my understanding is that the entire screen will be a fingerprint sensor.

i just want a home button i can feel so that if i need to go back to the home screen, i can hit it 100% of the time. unlike nexus phones where sometimes i have to look down to make sure i don't miss the home button.

no. not physically moving.

i mean that it has to be textured. iphone 7 has a groove around the home button so i can always be 100% sure i'm tapping on it.

i meant the groove around the iphone 7. my understanding is that if this iphone 8 is an onscreen button, it's going to be completely flat (unless there's a flexible display that creates a texture around the virtual button)

You've owned a Nexus but don't know how to get to home?

Small minded people with small vocabularies fling around insults like haters a lot.

Tare another look at the pic Md measurements. The problem is not with onscreen buttons in general but with how much is lost with this one. 5.8 to 5.1 is a lot and from what I can tell (could be wrong) this one does not hide. Big difference.

It says "reserved for virtual buttons". I take that to mean not hideable, lost space.

what? i never said that.
what i'm saying is, sometimes i need to look down and press home because sometimes i miss it because there's no tactile feel.

Maybe I misinterpreted it, but your quote was "How do you go home?"

Either way, I get your point. I have a different opinion but at least we have options. Personally, I'm hoping for more customization, and hope they use USB-C (I doubt they will).

"How do you go home" was a reply to this statement made by someone else:
"No home button. Biometrics under the glass. Synaptics has won the job. Gonna be awesome."

Yeah, I can't believe they would cut out that much real estate for the Plus fans. I wouldn't be shocked, but that would be a deal breaker.

To your point, I was speaking more about on screen buttons in general since Android was brought up.

I'm a big hand plus size guy have a 6s plus. This would kill it for me.

I actually like the hiding android buttons. Wife and step kids have edge 7, moto x pure, couple of moto g 3's that I maintain. I like them.

Have to see when it hits.

I don't have big hands but I prefer the larger screens too (I use a 6p ... awesome phone). I'll give the next iPhone a look, and I'd prefer it since I use a MBP and iPad, but yeah, a 5.1" display would kill it for sure.

In a perfect world, it would be 5.7" with on screen buttons, USB-C and a lot more customizations (like Nova for Android).

I had the moto x pure and this 6s plus at the same time for a while. That was a great phone also. The step daughter wanted it though so I parted with it. If the 8 doesn't pan out for some reason my next will probably be android. Not really interrested in the 7 series.

I also have a mac and ipad.

My perfect iphone 8 would be: a 5.5 inch iphone 8/x+ with a 5.5 inch 2560x1440 oled screen, in a smaller footprint than the current 7+. So smaller chins, and slightly curved edge to edge(less curve than the s7) to reduce side bezels, and a physical Touch ID button like the current 7+. So slightly shorter, less wide and without the camera bump. Upgraded cams, soc and jet black that doesn't scratch/scuff so easily, or with a black glass back, space black metal frame and sapphire front glass, so i would not have to het a screen protector for it.

Innovative? No. But a more compact iphone 7+ would look great, feel great, etc.

Or give us the rumored iphone 8 with a 6.3 inch in a slightly smaller footprint than the iPhone 7 Plus with the function area, etc. the rumored 5.8 inch with 5.1 inch active area, will be too small for me. Give us a 5.5 inch active area.

Am I the only one who is really freaked out by this facial recognition rumour? So, all anyone has to do to unlock my iPhone is point it in my face? Or worse a photo of me? Not to go to much down this law road but for instance you get arrested and they want to search your iPhone - they just hold it in front of your face and it unlocks? THAT is scary!! Give me finger or iris backed up by passcode any day. There must be some sort of work around to this, like finger scan AND face on camera? I dunno.. This sounds weird to me..

Unless... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-dimensional_face_recognition If that's the case, sounds fairly safe to me
