Maybe Apple could ask everyone else how they can charge wirelessly without a glass case.
Hell, even the Palm Pre announced in 2010 had wireless charging, yet it wasn't doomed to destruction following a slip from the hand.

RTFA?

issues with wireless frequency tolerances for metal alloys can limit the speed at which charging takes place

smartphone innovation should be in the software not the hardware...

I think we are reaching the peak in smartphone hardware technology and its all about diminishing returns now until there is a new scientific breakthrough

J4 just hates it that you put a case on his creations. Any bets the wireless charging slows down when a case adds distance from the charger surface.

I wish the McLaren thing would have materialized. An iPhone or a MacBook Pro in carbon fibre would be awesome!!! I wonder if a carbon fibre iPhone would smash like an F1 car? lol

How do you use the iPhone while charging having this wireless charge? The mat (or whatever surface) has to be plugged somewhere.

It looks like another gimmicky tech like those $300 toothbrush with bluetooth.

No mat, over the air.

People have money, people spend money as they want.
If you're not a communist, don't complain about it.
If you are a communist, criticizing a single person on a forum mostly about unnecessary gadgets is a stupid way to start a revolution.

I'm not defending the poster you responded to but what does this have to do with being a "communist" or starting a revolution? How about making good choices and personal responsibilities. It's no skin off my back if someone chooses to spend their money one way or the other. However, do folks really need a new phone every two years or every year? I'm still rocking my iPhone 6. It works great. I think this is why Apple isn't growing iPhone sales and the same is true for the overall market. Smartphones are computers that have a useable life of more than one or two years. Folks are starting to realize that "it's just a phone and a gadget." Don't get me wrong. The American economy is built on consumerism and credit so it's okay with me if others buy, buy, buy!

Smart phones in general have got a little stale imo. I love my iPhone but nothing is blowing me away at the moment.

Well many people wait for the darn design shift and paradigm change of the look.

But to be honest, a strong redesign of the iOS complemented by a shift in HW would probably blow all of us away.

Well...It ain't coming.... Steve's gone...
Emoji is the focus now.

Y Generation - Text and Emoticons is the core foundation of the development for the next 5 years.
AI developed to identify words that can be translated to Emoji... now that is a paradigm shift! Billion $ Company investment! Money well placed.

Now that Pokemon Go is available, it complements the colors and the transparency of the UI of the iOS.

Oh God...Oh....

I hope Steve does a good job in heaven designing things there.... We're now stuck with Jonathan I've Designed Pokemon GUI and Tim Cooks my Nerves with his money oriented profile.

With the second coming of Jesus - can you please send Steve too?

Otherwise we will all have an Emoji on our Tomb Stone.

The point of wireless charging is completely lost on me. Is it that difficult to plug this thing in?? Lightning even made it so it doesn't matter which way the plug goes. Are we so incompetent or lazy that a charging mat (which has to be plugged in) is superior to plugging in a phone once a day??

You want the security of a physical plug. In a vehicle, unless you drive on level glass and never turn, you'd be forced to buy a holder. Overnight suppose you or a pet bumped your phone off the charging mat.

And how do you use it while charging? Gotta move both the charging surface and the phone. And to make a call while charging?? Lol.

Can we please leave inductive charging for our toothbrushes and stop the total war on plugs? Some plugs are just fine, and in fact better. This headlong, because-we-can, because-it-seems-cool charge into wireless land is absurd.

And while I'm ranting, please leave me a bezel. Please? Look at that photo again. See the way they have to hold that thing to see the whole screen? No thanks. Especially if it's all glass, no matter how many gorillas it's made out of.

An all-glass iPhone.

I see no issues with this one:rolleyes:
People dropping their phones and shattering or cracking the glass screen is a common issue with iPhones. No smart phone with glass has so far proved to be as durable as plastic.

Thankfully I've always kept mine in a rugged case which has saved my phones many times!

Wireless charging is actually very nice, but obviously doesn't accommodate that particular use case. I have a galaxy s7 and just dump it on the charger last thing at night. Much better than fiddling with cables. We have charging pads on desks at work also, but an overnight charge typically lasts me all day.

No mat, over the air.

While an article from 2010 suggests that Apple is been exploring solutions for Extended Wireless Charging (i.e. over the air) as far as I can see nothing in the current article indicates that this is what is being considered now.
The "normal" definition of wireless charging (without the word "Extended") assumes the use of a charging mat/base.
What makes you think otherwise?
