How do you put a case on something like this?
Most cases need some kind of bezel to hook around.

smartphone innovation should be in the software not the hardware...

I think we are reaching the peak in smartphone hardware technology and its all about diminishing returns now until there is a new scientific breakthrough
I don't disagree regarding peak hardware. I've long said iOS needs to be "smarter" ie muting the volume when I get to work, perhaps hearing a phone conversation about hitting the market on the way home from work and mapping them or even posting coupons for my preferred market. Stuff like that. Seems like the first step was iOS 10 and so I'd like them to expand on it. Be more location aware as well as more aware of my daily routine. Read my iMessages for hints about what I want/need to do/go/whatever.

More glass for the the already most fragile phone out there, yeah, not for me. My old dinosaur of a Motorola has wireless charging and I'll be keeping that; it also has dual front stereo speakers and a headphone jack and, best of all Android.

Hardened glass can be more resilient than the current iPhone 7.

The point of wireless charging is completely lost on me. Is it that difficult to plug this thing in?? Lightning even made it so it doesn't matter which way the plug goes. Are we so incompetent or lazy that a charging mat (which has to be plugged in) is superior to plugging in a phone once a day??

You want the security of a physical plug. In a vehicle, unless you drive on level glass and never turn, you'd be forced to buy a holder. Overnight suppose you or a pet bumped your phone off the charging mat.

And how do you use it while charging? Gotta move both the charging surface and the phone. And to make a call while charging?? Lol.

Can we please leave inductive charging for our toothbrushes and stop the total war on plugs? Some plugs are just fine, and in fact better. This headlong, because-we-can, because-it-seems-cool charge into wireless land is absurd.

And while I'm ranting, please leave me a bezel. Please? Look at that photo again. See the way they have to hold that thing to see the whole screen? No thanks. Especially if it's all glass, no matter how many gorillas it's made out of.

Apple has already pointed out what you're saying about wireless charging. Rumors have been floating that they're looking at long range wireless charging, not surface contact charging. I completely agree with you, have owned many wireless charging phones myself and the technology is pointless as is, especially when a wired connection actually offers more benefits. However, I'm counting on something more if it were to be done.

I like the idea of wireless charging. It's a nice feature.
I'm just really worried it will be as half-baked as everything else we're seeing from Apple at the moment.

To put it in English, charging a device is as fundamental as drinking water is for humans. If this is a 'feature' which will cost me, then I'm not interested. Apple are less about adding value these days and more about driving up the price tag.

Definitely going to upgrade from my 6, and give this one to my niece. :)

I just hope all this hype and excitement that we're getting for this phone will eventually pay off.
I'm hearing about this "anniversary iPhone" even before the launch of 6S.

I very much like Apple, and iPhones, but I'm definitely hoping something "truly magical" :D

I think you have totally lost the point. Rumor has been hinting that their version of Wireless charing won't need a mat. Think if it like power over Wifi. Though I wouldn't expect the range.

EDIT: Imagine that each power hub can wirelessly send power in a 15 ft radius. Now plug a few of them in around the house. With this you can have your phone charging while in use etc.

I have a theory, and please feel free to disagree. as I admit it's only a guess.

Apple will produce 2 new phones for the masses next year, which will be a bit better than this years models.

They will also produce this super special anniversary model, with all we are hearing about, but it will be classed as the ultimate luxury iPhone and priced way way high and marketed as a luxury item for those who want the best.

I hope you're wrong. But I can see the Apple Greed take it to that.

iPhone 8 sounding more like Apple's version of Samsung Galaxy S7 (amoled display, wireless charging, glass backing, approx 5" screen. Gee!

good they should have done this sooner, the all aluminium casing should have been ditched after 5s.
I mean look at the problems it brought : bending 6,antenna bars in 6,easily scratching in jet black, etc etc
if you look at the galaxy s6-s7-note 5 even 4s for example you see how better glass body is, much nicer looking and no problem with scratch and weird ways of painting the phone (jet black i7).
and as for glass shattering, doesn't really make a difference because the front is always glass.

Apple will switch to an all-glass casing for next year's entire iPhone line-up in order to support wireless charging, with Pegatron being the exclusive supplier of the wireless charger. That's according to the latest research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo obtained by MacRumors
Oh....the wireless charging and glass back most of the Apple fans said was a gimmick on Samsung phones? Oh...that wireless charging......

Who needs ports?

I think the deceased durability is worth eventually getting rid of that horrible hole in the device called a port.

Nice try, not talking about the same thing here. The wireless charging you refer to is not only a gimmick, it's a setback.

All glass sounds great until you drop it. So it'll be in some kind of phone condom which kinda renders it pointless. It won't matter to me, though, as I won't move to anything until they come out with another 4" iPhone.
