That indeed will be a welcome changethe paper reports that Apple will replace the Lightning connector with a USB-C port.
Bring it. USB C will be a solid addition. [Now cue all the "But Android has had this forever already!" comments...]
Actually hoping for more of a change with iOS than any hardware fandangles.
Lightning is bettercan't see why they would downgrade to a lesser more bulky standard... most apple users, have plenty of lightning cables lying around.
Apple dropping its own lightning port? Just a short period after switching to it? Dream on, this is never going to happen. Would like to see the faces of those people who just bought new lightning head phones after ditching the 3.5mm head phones..... they will be soooooo pissed.
What would these changes be?
Bingo, this should be applauded. A universal standard with no licensing fees is better than a proprietary solution which only exists to serve apple's profits and why is it a downgrade?Lightning is bettercan't see why they would downgrade to a lesser more bulky standard... most apple users, have plenty of lightning cables lying around.
First of all: I don't believe it either. BUT:Apple dropping its own lightning port? Just a short period after switching to it?
It's been five years which is no short time in the tech industry.
And is it really that surprising that Apple would do this? The few Macs that Apple have released recently only had USB-C on them as their only port. The iPhone 7 wasn't even compatible with these Macs out of the box and a USB-C to lightning had to be purchased separately.
I believe they are moving all products to USB-C over the next year, iPhone included.
USB-C. Really?
This is the right direction...but I'll be amazed if Apple drop Lightning.
EDIT: If they do this, will they also release new USB-C rechargeable keyboard, mouse and trackpad for the iMac?
First of all: I don't believe it either. BUT:
"short period" is relative. When the iPhone 8 gets released, the Lightning port will be 5 years old. In the tech/smartphone world I wouldn't call that a short period, quite the contrary.
Not sure.I really don't see this happening for this years iPhone. Apple just ain't the kind to have two different iPhones at one announcement. The 7S, 7S plus an a 10th anniversary edition? Lol not happening. It's either one or the other.
On the surface it sounds like USB-C would be an improvement. But has Apple's USB-C implementation truly been according to that universal standard or do they do things within that standard that are not quite standard? Clearly, a USB-C connector will physically fit but electronically, are USB-C cables, adapters, and dongles identical?Bingo, this should be applauded. A universal standard with no licensing fees is better than a proprietary solution which only exists to serve apple's profits and why is it a downgrade?
