I don't see USB-C debunking over the lightning port this September. At least not yet.

If the curved display is accurate, I'm not interested in it. To me, it appears gimmicky. I'm not sure if I believe these rumors. I think it's mud slinging at this point.

I do think we will see 4.7/5.5 LED and 5.8 OLED Model.

Lightning is better :( can't see why they would downgrade to a lesser more bulky standard... most apple users, have plenty of lightning cables lying around.

It's a strange rumor, I believe they might adopt USB-C on the iPad Pro line. It could give a distinction between the pro and non-pro lines and open up the iPad Pro to a ton of accessories and expandability options.

Seeing USB-C first rumored in regards to the iPhone is a little surprising. Then again I think all the iPhone 8 rumors have been very strange and confusing. I dislike the idea of their being a 7s and an 8 launched at the same time.

Perhaps iPhone 8 will actually be called iPhone Pro and it gets USB-C just like the iPad Pro does at the March event.

Apple dropping its own lightning port? Just a short period after switching to it? Dream on, this is never going to happen. Would like to see the faces of those people who just bought new lightning head phones after ditching the 3.5mm head phones..... they will be soooooo pissed.

It's been five years which is no short time in the tech industry.

And is it really that surprising that Apple would do this? The few Macs that Apple have released recently only had USB-C on them as their only port. The iPhone 7 wasn't even compatible with these Macs out of the box and a USB-C to lightning had to be purchased separately.

I believe they are moving all products to USB-C over the next year, iPhone included.

Curved OLED screen and a USB-C port. This thing sounds like an android phone.

Jokes aside, I'll be saddened if it goes USB-C. I love that everything I have around home uses lightning to charge (iPads, iPhones, AirPods, Siri remotes, etc).

Though in all honesty with the Plus I find I never need to charge it during the day anyway.

What would these changes be?

I think iOS has gotten pretty well rounded on the iPhone in terms of features. They could slow down a little and put some focus on iOS for iPad which could use a lot of work improving things like keyboard support, multi-tasking, cursor support.

For the iPhone there is little I really want:

- Dark Mode
- Mail.app rules syncing over iCloud across devices (this I have been waiting on for ages)

Apple is not going to drop the lightning connector. Apple never used standard ports on their iOS devices and they are unlikely to.

I still hope this special iPhone 8 will simply be the next 7s and will come in two sizes...

USB-C? Maybe Apple have finally been shaken to their senses! There has been so much trolling from both sides of the Apple camp since the iPhone 7 and the 2016 MacBook Pros were announced. Have they taken all this negative publicity to heart? Hmmm, time will tell...

If they did, they would have to do this for all iPhones, iPads and iPods at the same time. I would be very surprised.

USB-C. Really?

This is the right direction...but I'll be amazed if Apple drop Lightning.

EDIT: If they do this, will they also release new USB-C rechargeable keyboard, mouse and trackpad for the iMac?

Apple is lost. They have just released AirPods (still in short supply and with long shipping delays) and BeatsX - both with Lightning connectors. To release an iPhone with USB-C is to make the ecosystem even more jumbled up. I can see using USB-C on computers and Lightning on everytging else, but to introduce USB-C to the iPhones so late in the game when lightning is on every new Apple accessory is crazy.

However, with the lack of direction at the helm, Apple is certainly capable of such a foolish design decision.

Sounds unlikely. So the iPhone 8 / X will adopt USB-C while the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus (if the whole "it will be three models, one premium" thing is true) will keep using Lightning? That would be a total mess.

I was also a firm believer that Apple might actually move to USB-C after they went all-out on USB-C on all the new Mac's. But as Apple keeps releasing new products using Lightning like the new AirPods, BeatsX, new Magic Mouse, new Magic Keyboard etc.. I can't see how they would drop Lightning.

If they decide to drop Lightning they should re-release all the various products that is now using Lightning for charging with models that use USB-C instead. It would be beyond stupid to have your Mac, your new iPhone and perhaps even your new iPad on USB-C while your fancy new AirPods, BeatsX, Magic Mouse etc keeps using Lightning.

Why Apple insisted on using Lightning for charging the new Mac accessories like the new Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard is beyond me. Every new Mac is all USB-C (besides the outdated models like Mac mini, Mac Pro and iMac) and yet they insist on putting Lightning on accessories for Mac's? Where's the logic?

And what will happen with the bundled EarPods? Will it ship with a special USB-C EarPods so we now have EarPods with minijack, EarPods with Lightning and EarPods with USB-C? Or will it ship with the AirPods which uses Lightning to charge the cradle/case?

Makes sense if there's going to be some kind of inductive charging dock accessory, sold separately obviously. Glad I held off on this Lightning headphones though!

First of all: I don't believe it either. BUT:

"short period" is relative. When the iPhone 8 gets released, the Lightning port will be 5 years old. In the tech/smartphone world I wouldn't call that a short period, quite the contrary.

I know, but Timmy is making money out of lightning, for USB-C people will turn to third party stuff. Why would Apple change, there is no benefit for them and the Apple users are now accustomed to lightning after complaining for several years. If so, they should have done this when they ditched the 3.5mm jack, no they would only make a fool out of themselves.

I really don't see this happening for this years iPhone. Apple just ain't the kind to have two different iPhones at one announcement. The 7S, 7S plus an a 10th anniversary edition? Lol not happening. It's either one or the other.
Not sure.
Maybe they are doing the Pro-ification of iPhone.
iPhone and iPhone "Pro" while overcharging for the "Pro" even more.

Or 7S is just their backup plan.
In case the rumored 8 isn't finished or they aren't able to arrange supply of enough parts they will do the 7S.
If not it's 8 only.

I wonder how many people who applauded the removal of the headphone jack will be annoyed by a switch to USB-C?

I'm sure there will be a dongle for that.

Bingo, this should be applauded. A universal standard with no licensing fees is better than a proprietary solution which only exists to serve apple's profits and why is it a downgrade?
On the surface it sounds like USB-C would be an improvement. But has Apple's USB-C implementation truly been according to that universal standard or do they do things within that standard that are not quite standard? Clearly, a USB-C connector will physically fit but electronically, are USB-C cables, adapters, and dongles identical?

I'm not implying that they're not, but there is an implied assumption that they are.

Reports change daily. I am so sick of rumors. Just shut the **** up until Apple releases the damn thing.
