What? Apple removed it to force everyone towards wireless, the exact opposite of "propriety connectors"!

The reality is a lot of people don't want wireless headphones. If Appel was trying to force people to wireless hedpgpnens they should have had wireless EarPods bundled with every iPhone, instead of pushing people towards the proprietary lightning headphones.

Hotel rooms still have 15-pin clock radios, lol.

UCB-C is the future. It's on my Macbook, Macbook Pro and soon Apple phone. They know what's up.

You do realise USB-C solves the exact issue you're citing?

No, it wouldn't unless you buy new hardware. Both my MBP and MBA are not equipped with USB-C, so USB-C will not solve anything for me and I would have to buy a USB to USB-C cable next to it. Don't get me wrong, it would be great if the whole world would be on USB-C, but that is not the case right now.

Slow as hell at doing what?
Backing up and restoring on the computer, photos and videos. I personally use iCloud for everything but some still use the computer.
I keep over 4000 photos on my iPad Pro (yes I do look at them) and iTunes is really good at forgetting that. So every so often I need to re-sync all of them.

Beyond that, there is the task of transferring the photos I have processed on my iPad over to my computer and then syncing them from Photos back to my iPad so they consume less space.

I'm certainly not going to do that over iCloud.

I am not able to comprehend the idea of dedicated screen space for virtual buttons on bottom part. So when one watches video in landscape, video will not be in the center of the device...

No. Not done. What about if you want to use that same cable to plug directly into the wall adapter that came with the iPhone to charge it? Won't work because Apple is still half between using the USB-A shape and USB-C shape. Very annoying.

Actually, yes done. Keep the USB A to Lightning cable with the brick (and/or the phone) and the USB C to Lightning cable with your MacBook. Easy.

My iPad automatically syncs with my iTunes on my Mac without going through icloud, via wifi sync. I've never plugged my iPad into my Mac to sync anything. And I've never had any complaints. It's automatic, and always up and ready to go, in perfect sync. If I ever make changes and want to immediately re-sync, I can manually start the sync remotely on the iPad without ever plugging it in. And I have 2000 pics and videos on my iPad at any given time.

annnnnnnnnnnd goodbye iPhone

(I'm referring to the curved display by the way - it's BAD design and not practical)

Honestly I'll be surprised if you're not praising it after it comes out. Many on this forum have been bashing Samsung for years but will change their tune when Apple does it.

most people don't care about OLED vs LCD except nerds. What people care about is cool features like the curved display and all glass housing. They then cover those up with the largest possible case and feel content that they have something really sleek inside that ugly otter box
well yes and no.
they will care about OLED vs LCD when they compare their LCD next to their friends OLED..the quality/color difference is immediately apparent.

Serious questions: I've asked before, but didn't get a response.

Are the curved parts of the screen touch sensitive (do they respond to input)?
What functions(s) do the curved parts of the screen accomplish?

I have a friend with the Galaxy S6 edge, it's awful and impractical.

They also think it's annoying buy already bought it so they're stuck with it.

It looks "cool" in photos but in real life I'm afraid it's just not practical.

Not only that OLED is a lot brighter and those blacks look awesome. If Apple makes a 128gig variant available at 1K I am getting one. The screens on my iPhone 7 look washed out and boring compared to an OLED. I would love using iOS on an OLED screen

Are the edges of the phone useable for touch input? If so, how is the phone useable since it needs to be held on the edges?

A lot of Apple’s customers cares. For years, Apple’s ecosystem was so great because everything worked well together. As it stands now, you need dongles galore for all sorts of things. Just the other day, I was trying to sort out a way to charge my iPhone while driving and play audio through an aux cord at the same time. Took quite a bit of research to find a way to utilize my iPhone to do the things I want it to do. This is becoming a problem across the spectrum of Apple’s products and only seems to be getting worse.

That’s why we care.
Get a bluetooth head unit and free yourself from the aux lead.

there's still a border for holding on to.

still will get accidental touches. as it's much thinner border. The Edge screen is really one of those things that most people aren't going to find useful. it's mostly cosmetic. it just looks bloody cool. they did a much better job with the S7 edge to make it easier to hold.

People whoare buying these phones aren't buying them because the curve offers some amazing new interaction with the phone. The features are cool, and sometimes useful, but not "Must haves". but overall this is one of those things that is all about the design fashion of tech, and thus, some people are going to love it, Some people will hate it.

Thanks for responding. Do any apps, or app icons, use the curved part of the screen, or is it just for wallpaper etc.?

I see the phones in public, and the curved part of the screen picks up a LOT of glare.

I like my screens at very low brightness and as such don't really notice a difference. But that's me.
And its all over for the LCD guys.2 years before LCD is finally dumped into the tech graveyard. This confirms my belief that Apple wanted to dump the LCD model this year itself but Samsung and the other suppliers just werent ready for mass production. I expect some screen "gates" on this OLED model

So these iPhones will magically solve the burn in issue right?

With Apple pushing I expect the blue phosphor issue to be given a lot of research. And no, LCD is far from dead, separating the reality from the hype and rumors.

It's dead. Apple's trashing it in 2 years

So Apple's OLED will have zero burn in?

To be fair I don't like the Galaxy S6 edge and I don't think the edge screen worked well with that smaller phone. My 5.7" edge plus is really nice and I imagine a 5.8" iPhone would be too.

They are touch sensitive. For me, the main benefit of the edge is that it makes all of the content on the screen "pop" almost like a quasi-3D effect. I have an app called swipe pad; when I drag my finger over the edge a page of shortcuts pops up. I don't need to go to the homepage to access it. It is highly customizable with call/text shortcuts, and the user can have different sets of shortcuts depending on what part of the screen they access it from. This isn't exclusive to the edge screen but it works well with it.

Let's call it the iPhone retro. After seeing all the leaks it looks boring and dated already.
