LOL, that's pretty pathetic if you would pass on a phone just because you can't make purchases on it at the less then 30% of retails that still carry it. (That number is probably going to shrink as more people/businesses ditch it and write it off as a failure).
Just an FYI, Cash still works everywhere.
It's not just for Apple Pay. It's one of the main security features of the phone. Before Touch ID I never used a passcode. Now I can unlock my phone instantly and still have it secured.

Touch ID is a nice feature, but it is by no means essential. I'd much rather have a big, uniform display on my iPhone. As far as missing Apple Pay, that's a minor detail. What so bad about carrying around your VISA card, which you have to do anyway? This is a "big picture" decision, and hopefully Apple will make the right one.

"Doubtfully"? More like "complete and utter BS."

Sometimes (okay, most of the time) "analyst's" pontifications are so clearly not based in reality they shouldn't even be reported.

I rather they hold the phone for next year if it's not ready. Add a last-minute gimmick to the 7s and call it a "tremendous evolution from 10 years ago".

I said it before in another thread, I'll say it here as well. The iPhone (whatever they will call it) is FIVE months away. We get this same crap every year. Last year it was the dual camera sensor and the jet black color. The year before that the 3D touch display for the bigger model wasn't producing good yield rates. Please calm down guys, this is the same pattern as every year. Who has ever heard of Pacific Crest Securities anyway. It's fun to speculate, but don't take anything rumored seriously until we start seeing part leaks and the day the device gets announced.

Apple Pay works everywhere for me except Walmart and Target, because they have their own (failed) solutions. Pretty much any machine with NFC enabled uses it. That includes crappy little small town gas stations here in BFE Michigan. Nobody is going to write it off as a failure until at least NFC dies as an option. For a majority of touch-enabled CC processing equipment, it will handle Apple Pay by default.

You'd think that after three years of the same design they would have done adequate planning to avoid delays.

Exactly. I find it hard to believe they're doubting now. If it's not quite ready for sept 2017, then it'll be ready for Sept 2018.

In which case, why wasn't the iPhone 7 design more different? I.E. slightly smaller bezels?

Didn't Apple already solve putting Touch ID under a glass display on the new Macbook Pro Touch Bar?

I believe the part of the Touch Bar with TouchID isn't display.

Just roll with the 6 Design for a 4th year Tim. Add a 3rd lens ;)

For me touchid is one one of the last things going for the iPhone. So no doubt under TC, it will be removed

Yeah, I'm starting to think this sounds like we're just going to get an iPhone 7s and then the "iPhone 8" in 2018. Maybe Apple will get lucky again and Samsung will mess up this year. I'm pretty sure that's what prevented sales declines last year. If they're really struggling at this late hour then I doubt we'll see it. Apple doesn't like to rush things. I worry about the design becoming too stale. Maybe they should have saved that red iPhone for later?

"First the headphone jack, now Touch ID. What's next, taking the touchscreen away entirely and even the ability to use it as a cellular phone!?"

Guys, it's a rumor. Get your panties out of a wad and just be patient.

Part of Apple's 'big picture' was to get rid of the need to carry your Visa card with you. Your suggestion that Apple will say 'we're removing Apple Pay because you've got a credit card' is madness.

Let's not forget that the Galaxy 8 has Touch on the back for the same reason. They could not make it sustainable under glass. :apple:

Then why didn't Apple release a bezel free phone last year? I assumed it was because they were planning on leapfrogging the competition. Not delievering what their competitors deliver, 6 months later.

Imagine putting your face near a NFC terminal to activate Apple Pay? Bending down several times because the sensors can't recognize your face...the horror! After making such a huge deal with Touch ID, I would be shocked if Apple decides to eliminate that feature just to rush out units by September; they are not Samsung lol.

Apple is not going to get rid of Touch ID.

Seriously, who are these moron analysts? Do they even use an iPhone, let alone a smartphone? Forget Apple Pay for a second, Touch ID is baked throughout iOS. Could you even imagine not having the smooth fluidity of Touch ID for unlocking your phone these days? Anyone? Ok then.
