LOL, that's pretty pathetic if you would pass on a phone just because you can't make purchases on it at the less then 30% of retails that still carry it. (That number is probably going to shrink as more people/businesses ditch it and write it off as a failure).
Just an FYI, Cash still works everywhere.

Might be different in other countries but wireless payment tech, phones and payment cards are becoming universal in the UK. Apple Pay isn't going anywhere because it's just part of the standards on all POS machines. Only apple requires confirmation with a fingerprint to authorise, and removing the Touch ID wouldn't prevent other ways of authorisation such as iris/facial and a pin code.

I think for most people Touch ID is a quick way of unlocking vs a passcode or pin and removing it will hurt sales. Hopefully they'll introduce alternatives or wait until the under-screen scans can work.

Apple is already integrate touchid into macs now..and they consider to remove it from iphones? not a chance

that is exactly what i thought too. they had worked on touchID from gen 1 to gen 2 and onto the mac. if they are going to move to something else, they won't put it on the mac last year since the next mac re-design will be years away.

I don't think it's about whether or not the new iPhone will have Touch ID. Given its maturity and reliability, the question is more like: Where they are going to put Touch ID? Given heavy rumors on bezel-less design, it's only going to be either underneath the display or on the back of the device (maybe at the Apple logo directly?)

Even if they decide to ship iPhone 8 with Touch ID on the back, I still think it's going to be a huge upgrade since iPhone 6. OLED display will be very welcomed. 3D sensing will enable new functionalities. Wireless charging and fast charging will add more convenience. A large bezel-less design allowing big screen size in form factor that's easily held and used with one hand, while having significant extra batteries from stacked chips design, will be pleasant to have.

Really, if they manage to solve this production problem, this iPhone will probably be the most stunning and technologically attractive iPhone in its history. If not, it's still going to remain very attractive for prospective upgraders.

30% today and will be 100% in the future. The CC system in the US is not the best and yall are lagging behind in that section but it is invietable that over the next decade everyone will move to chip/tap system for payments. In Canada Major cities, 100% of purchases use Chip and 85% of them you are able to tap and probably 75% accept Apple Pay.

It would be silly to take a step back

Then why didn't Apple release a bezel free phone last year? I assumed it was because they were planning on leapfrogging the competition. Not delievering what their competitors deliver, 6 months later.

Because the specs for "their" OLED that Samsung is manufacturing under "their design" were not ready yet. Just as TSMC fabs chips of "Apple's Design". As well as many others. :apple:

Don't delay it. Put the hardware there and admit it needs more time to develop software. Fix it later with a software update.

They'd rather do away with TouchID, than leave the home button in place under the screen? Are they really that vain?

FYI, I couldn't find one rumor this analyst was actually correct. I feel like it's a case of someone getting paid to just guess and throw stuff at the wall until something sticks.

I just find it hard to believe that Apple hasn't been able to solve a problem they've had years to research. Always the same last minute hiccup from Apple. They'll probably delay the launch of the iPhone 8 just like they did for the airpods as they're probably still trying to figure out a number of issues that present themselves if the touch ID is beneath the glass (such as what happens if the phone is dropped and the glass is cracked, or if the touch ID is compatible with screen protectors).

There's so many rumors going around right now that I take everything with a grain of salt until the time comes which is a few months away.

If they put Touch ID on the back, then I can't unlock my phone without picking it up. Also, Touch ID would suck if I constantly have to "feel around" for it. And what about cases? They'd all have to leave a hole (which wouldn't be an option for battery cases). Overall this would be a hack, and I'd seriously consider not upgrading if this is what they do.

until we start seeing parts that's the best way to be. A lot of these analyst are doing the same thing as they do every year stir up trouble where there isn't any. Or they are going off of old information. We'll see what apple has in store come September

Right, Just like they "delayed" the MBP until Kaby Lake came out and/or they could actually fit the larger battery into the case they designed. Oh wait, they didn't.....instead they released a half baked product to make sure they were out before the holidays.

Apple is sitting on massive cash reserves and have shown time and time again that they're willing to delay as long as required for the end product.

I have my doubts that Apple would release an iPhone without Touch ID this year. It's too radical and would break compatibility with a number of Apps that use Touch ID. Perhaps when other bio-metric methods are more mature, but not yet. Putting it on the back seems more likely than dropping it altogether but that's just my opinion...

But can't you use ApplePay with just your pin? There have been times it didn't read my print and just asked for my passcode.

Lol the whole point of the 5s was touch id, why would they get rid of it. If anything the phone will be revealed with the other two and launched a little later

I believe there are a few solutions. 3D facial image combined with a Voiceprint. 2 factors would eliminate need for Single factor fingerprint. Stronger auth method, using a random phrase generated for each auth. Combine with Apple watch, which would also allow you to auth to your phone, just like a Mac allows you to login with an Applewatch..... Folks need to be a bit more creative!!! MT

just like they wouldnt have the dual camera module ready last year, and the 3D touch screens the year before that, blah blah blah rinse and repeat.

Fake News.

"The button!"

I don't understand how after 10 years of iPhone people who use touch-screen smart phones still want buttons.

Thank you lol, I literally just brought this up, new rumors = new reason for shortage or delay. The same thing always happens they release it in small quantities for pre-orders then it is more readily available around end of November or early December.
