This has to be the most ridiculous article ever. No way in hell Apple would give up Touch ID considering how big Apple Pay is now. Does Macrumors not give any thought to these "rumors" before publishing them? I understand the concept of a rumor, but you have to use some common sense here. Time to find a new site to follow.

LOL, that's pretty pathetic if you would pass on a phone just because you can't make purchases on it at the less then 30% of retails that still carry it. (That number is probably going to shrink as more people/businesses ditch it and write it off as a failure).
Just an FYI, Cash still works everywhere.

Write it off as a failure ? Where ever do you get your information. This goes against anything I have read.

Said it over and over last year, 7 Plus was my last Apple Phone for at least a year or two. They've lost focus on software and are hardware heavy causing mistakes left and right to occur. Holding off to see what Apple can do in a couple years rather than the yearly upgrade since there's no reason to upgrade that quickly anymore.
You don't need an iPhone anyway if you can switch so easily. They have whatsapp on much cheaper phones you know

I believe there are a few solutions. 3D facial image combined with a Voiceprint. 2 factors would eliminate need for Single factor fingerprint. Stronger auth method, using a random phrase generated for each auth. Combine with Apple watch, which would also allow you to auth to your phone, just like a Mac allows you to login with an Applewatch..... Folks need to be a bit more creative!!! MT

So you need to put your face over your phone AND talk to unlock it and to use apple pay?

Nobody wants voice to be part of unlocking their phone.

Nice hot take from this guy, I doubt he even believes it. Touch ID is a major feature in the iPhone and has been integrated into more and more as time goes on. There's no way Apple releases a brand new, top of the line redesigned phone without this basic element.

Let's not forget that the Galaxy 8 has Touch on the back for the same reason. They could not make it sustainable under glass. :apple:

There is nothing to confirm that Samsung were even going to implement their fingerprint scanner underneath the front screen. The main reason they probably put it on the back is because Apple has a patent covering the placement of the fingerprint scanner under the screen ANYWHERE!
So with all the legal issues Samsung has at present in regards to 'copying' plus the fiasco of the Note 7 the least thing they need is even more legal issues regarding patent infringements.

I heard from a friend that went to a physic medium the iPhone 8 touch ID screen sensor was a "nexus of quantum vortex life energy" with "spacial mathematical reasoning" what-ever that means.

These analyst reports are meaningless drivel just like what I wrote above.

It's not just that, I access most apps with Touch ID now, useful feature that doesnt require as much password input anymore.

I don't think it's about whether or not the new iPhone will have Touch ID. Given its maturity and reliability, the question is more like: Where they are going to put Touch ID? Given heavy rumors on bezel-less design, it's only going to be either underneath the display or on the back of the device (maybe at the Apple logo directly?)

Even if they decide to ship iPhone 8 with Touch ID on the back, I still think it's going to be a huge upgrade since iPhone 6. OLED display will be very welcomed. 3D sensing will enable new functionalities. Wireless charging and fast charging will add more convenience. A large bezel-less design allowing big screen size in form factor that's easily held and used with one hand, while having significant extra batteries from stacked chips design, will be pleasant to have.

Really, if they manage to solve this production problem, this iPhone will probably be the most stunning and technologically attractive iPhone in its history. If not, it's still going to remain very attractive for prospective upgraders.

NO offence but I seriously doubt that Apple would put touch id on the back like Samsung, for one thing it is inconvenient to try to unlock your phone by blind feeling. Then if you have to turn the phone over to look at where the sensor is that defeats being easy. Secondly Samsung could (no doubt) complain that Apple are copying them!(Oh the irony lol).
Plus Apple have patents covering this that go back over 2 years. So you seriously think that they have not been working on this for such a long time?
You seriously think that Apple would not have found a way to make the tech work and in high yield rates?

TouchID on the back of phone is a no-sale for me, unfortunately. That sounds like an awful user experience. I would rather they wait another 3-6 months and get it right than push it back to the next model. Of course that would blow up their annual release cycle so I doubt they'll do it. I'm ready to buy 2 new iPhones, but with TouchID on the back I'll probably wait.

Right, Just like they "delayed" the MBP until Kaby Lake came out and/or they could actually fit the larger battery into the case they designed. Oh wait, they didn't.....instead they released a half baked product to make sure they were out before the holidays.

That's different because that was the Mac and everyone knows Apple no longer cares about the Mac lol. The iPhone accounts however for about 66% of their profits! So they can not afford to mess up the launch of the apparent 10th anniversary iPhone.

All this goes to show is how much notice we should take of these 'experts'. I've seen more believable articles in the Onion. I would put my life savings on Apple not ditching Touch ID and a) going back to standard password and b) giving up on Apple Pay. Why would anyone even buy an iPhone 8 at that point. Ridiculous article.

I won't buy an iPhone that has no Touch ID or that has it on the back of the device. I'll stick with my iPhone 7 Plus until they come to their senses.

They'll delay the release. A product to their design is better than an unfinished or compromised product. Even if consumers hate the wait. Look at the laptops, Mac Pro, iPad Pro, etc...

Nope, and that's a difference between Cook and Jobs. Steve gave a damn about the product and sweated all the details. Instead, Cook is busy promoting his SJW politics to the world.

Well at least SOMEBODY cares about the little things like, you know, privacy and equal rights for ALL people regardless of colour, race, nationality or sexuality..you know..the apparent corner stones of the constitution of the USA. I guess that Jobs was too busy with the details and you know...allowing the NSA access to iPhones etc under the Prism project.

You'd think that after three years of the same design they would have done adequate planning to avoid delays.

This thinking ^ I don't understand.

Let's look at cars. What if consumers demanded "a complete redesign" of cars' main functionality every year or two? Imagine having to re-learn how to drive a car every time you got a new model or different brand?

Consistency with design is a good thing for end users, and good for the stability of the platform. Poor Apple gets it from both ends ... they stick to a proven design, making it really robust, and users complain that it's not changing. They change it, having to start from scratch with refining it, and users complain that it's "buggy". They just can't win.
