when they say its 2x as fast and proceed to show off the phone being used, how is it not implying that is the native speed of the device?

Because it's not, it's the same as showing a talking hamburger. You gotta be stupid to believe everything you see on the TV.

I don't see apple adding "actual speed shown" or anything. They say it's twice as fast as the old one, they never claim to show real speed.

They show a video and voice over "twice as fast" - all they need is some text in the bottom saying *not actual speed shown, bla bla

you don't quite just get it do you?

A main selling point for the iphone 3g was that its 2x as fast. They then proceed to show the phone being used. That implies that what they are showing is native speeds.

Show me an ad for a hamburger with its main selling/advertising point is that it talks.....you can't can you:rolleyes:

a) some people believe some things

b) how on earth is it the same as showing a talking hamburger? They show a their phone, loading faster than the voice over claims. They just need some text in there.

Have the world actually become that stupid that you need text like that? I am getting sick of stuff like that everywhere, "smoking might kill you", "chips make you fat". No ****? When I see a commercial I use my brain, realize it's a commercial and then understand it cannot be the real speed.

I mean the first course at any university is usualy about being critical against the sources of your information, and most school long before university level give classes like that, so it's not like people haven't heard it before.

your examples are so unrelated to this its not even funny.

Don't advertise performance and then proceed to show a phone being used faster than what it is really. How are consumers supposed to be critical on that?

its not the same as "smoking is harmful to your health" as NOBODY is claiming that it isn't harmful and are certainly not advertising it as healthy

No they aren't. It isn't all that hard to understand that TV time costs money, so hmm, should I blindly believe everything I see, or should I think for a second and realize they might have speeded it up because they wanted to fit everything in short time? If you do not think it's your own fault. Then again, stupid people do not like it when they understand they acted stupid, that's why they starts to cry when they forgot to think.

Are you seriously saying that, if you saw a McDonald's ad with a guy tucking into a nice, big, juicy burger but, when you went to buy one it was just an inch across, you'd shrug and think "Oh well, the ad didn't say that the burger was shown actual size"?

No, you'd demand your money back.

for someone claiming to not be stupid with tv advertising, its sure hard to get you to see the difference in your examples and this case

They aren't advertising the iPhone to be that fast, that's something peoples heads made up themselves. That's the beauty of commercials, they make people THINK that the ad sais something that it does not, that's why you gotta think once about what you see on the TV.

No I wouldn't. The moment I saw the ad I would think, hmm, McDonalds, fastfood chain. The cost of making that juicy fresh burger on order would be more expensive then they get when I buy it. That's why you get better burgers for same money at smaller diners, the cost of providing the same burger (nice burgers take more time to make) to that many people and McDonalds would be too big.

ok tell me how you know 2x as fast is not "that" fast as you say....

they are advertising the iphone to be 2x as fast as the old iphone remember:rolleyes:

I don't, but thinking logically leads to the idea that it most likely isn't. That leads to me getting more information about it before purchasing it, instead of blindly trusting what I saw on the TV.

That's right you don't know which is the whole point of this thread as if you don't know, how can you assume the audience knows:cool:

As I said, then I get more INFORMATION about it. The whole point is that you gotta think for yourself, you cannot always trust that every person you meet is gonna tell the whole story, or that you will interpret everything correctly. That's why you should think about everything first, ask yourself "is this logical?", "is there reasons for this not being how it is?", if you answer no to the first or yes to the second. Then you should get more facts.

The iPhone ad answers yes to the second question, why? Because there is incentive to cut down the add time because that costs less to advertise, then it is likely they cut off loading times.

You missed my point. Forget it.

since you like to think logically....

tell me how it is illogical again to believe the ad speed as real time when they advertise the phone claiming its 2x as fast and then proceed to show it being used

apple needs to disclaim that it is not true speed to solve this misconception.

edit: is it just me or do i feel im going in circles argueing this point......

Apple clearly have incentive not to have long ads, since longer ads cost alot more. Therefor the logical approach is that Apple had incentive to speed things up, therefor what you see on the TV have no scientific value, therefor you gotta get your own evidence of speed.

im not arguing that

then dont advertise a 2x speed increase and then show the device being used without saying its sped up. again the whole point of this thread.....

Still, it is YOUR brain thinking that speed is actual speed. Even my mom understand the commercial is probably sped up, and she usually cannot use a phone SMS without me showing how to do it. Why does she understand this then? Because she do not trust everything she's told.

So you believe you get loads of good looking women when you buy most alcohols?

Do you believe that some of the food you buy can actually talk? (Many ads for like yogurt or whatever feature talking stuff).

Of course you don't, why? Because you use your brain to understand that commercials will not be a representation of reality. They are all about showing off features.

I would note that any inferance that alcohol will make you more sexually successful is also illegal in the UK… Any advert for beer with attractive ladies in it tends to be fairly ironic.

Apple made an inaccurate factual claim and got called on it. That simple.

do you know what the point of this thread is? seriously

its about apple NOT saying the iphone speed shown was exaggerated when they are advertising it as being 2x as fast. clearly it is not illogical to believe the speed they showed was a real representation as they advertised it being much faster.

Yeah, I see you're from the states though, it seems you are too used to being told exactly how everything is. You do not need to have the same critical eyes when you buy stuff, you just gotta check the back and see everything bad about it.

We do not have writings on everything here, I had a good laugh about the warnings texts last time I was in the states. I mean some of them were so stupid that it would been classified as "survival of the fittest" if someone would have died from there not being a warning.

i have a very critical eye when buying things

its just that you dont get the point of this thread and then throw these examples that are completely unrelated as evidence.

remember, its the UK that called Apple out on this, not the US and its the UK that will have Apple "write on the wall" concerning this
