I think I regret the Air, so it's easy to see where they can improve, and it's not the battery.

It's sharp. Like that 3D printed USB port they bragged about? It' hurts. I bought USB-C plugs just to soften it. The 17 Pro Max actually feels better in the hand, although the weight would get old.

An Air as polished as the rest of the line up might be compelling. But currently I kinda miss holding my softer 15 Pro now

Lower the price and add a second speaker. That’s all that’s needed. Buy a Pro if you really need more camera options, that’s why it’s a pro in the first place. Love
My current Air and don’t miss the weight and size of my 16PM

Possible. A lower price tag will be fantastic. An ultra wide lens will be nice. Telephoto would have been great but won't be possible due to the thin design.

Or get the base model and get a better camera and better battery for cheaper. Apple hasn't figured out how to put the Air in the lineup that actually makes it compelling for the average iPhone user.

The UW camera is essential to the photography effects and depth information. Even if you don’t use it, you use it.
Can you expand on this? Does the iPhone really “look” through the UW lens to gather information for the primary lens shot? Makes sense but I haven’t heard about this before. Merry Christmas!

Interesting note is that I didn’t see any comments (besides the mini fans) that mentioned the size. I guess that means most people are happy with the larger display.

This is the first I've heard of this. I just picked up my Air and it didn't dig into my palm, didn't feel sharp. I ran my finger along the USB-C port. No sharp edges, no burrs. The titanium frame is CNC or laser cut, then polished. The 3D-printed port inside doesn't come in contact with anything other than a USB cable inserted into it. My previous phone was the 15 Pro. Now that felt sharp compared to the Air.

The battery is better then the 16 and way better then my 14 pro max I replaced my air with. I have no idea why people hate on this phone so much. Everyone who used my phone was seriously impressed by its thinness and lightness. Apple did ZERO to market it.
I've shown my Air to a bunch of people and most weren't aware of it before. And the usual reactions were in this order:
- impressed with the lightness
- impressed with the thinness but slightly less than the lightness
- fear of breaking it
- fear of short battery life

Battery life is not any more concern than previous iPhones and it is possibly the most durable iPhone--if Apple advertised it more, they could have simultaneously made people more aware of the Air and quelled these two major fears.

People do love their cameras so I don't know if the Air would have been a runway hit even if well-advertised (nor do I necessarily think Apple would want it to eat into Pro sales), but from my anecdotal evidence I am inclined to agree it would have sold significantly better if decently advertised.

Cheap prices? What a joke, look at the market! How much do SSDs and DDR costs? So many people don’t have any idea what is coming!

While that’s true, Apple has got long-term contracts on memory supply. The price surge will eventually get to Apple but not for a while yet.

If you’re walking a pet using headphones is a bad idea.
Why? It keeps my hands free for the leash, poop pickup, etc. Just use them in transparency mode, like most folks do 🤷‍♂
Same, but I've seen people using iPhone speakers for impromptu FaceTime calls in a group setting where everyone wants to hear what the absent person is saying.
Stereo sound is completely unnecessary for that though
Always a smart alec around here who thinks they have wit when they really don't. Spend a few minutes on youtube, forums (including here), to see why people have returned it or are opting for the base or Pro.
Forums like MR are completely disconnected from regular users on this kinda stuff

Anecdotally btw my sister rejected the air solely because she wanted the better camera because she takes a lot of photos of her kids. That, I suspect, is a much more common reason.

Air user here. I hardly ever use the speaker because I have Airpods, and I most certainly don't use the speaker around strangers because I'm a decent human being.

Battery life? Just fine.

Camera? One is fine. Wide angle camera users, do you ACTUALLY look at your shots later? They're much worse quality than any other shot. Just not worth having. This is coming from a not quite pro but not amateur photographer. I have an actual camera for anything else, but I've been using my Air mostly for my recent vacation and I absolutely adore the quality. I miss the zoom somewhat, but I don't miss the ultra wide.
If I could change one thing on my Air, I'd give it vapor channel cooling. That's it. The phone is one of Apple's finest. It doesn't need to make sense. Apple's most charming products didn't make sense. The weight is a feature, and it makes me not miss my mini.

iPhone Air 2 Could Still Launch Next Year

Obviously really, even unsuccessful Apple products usually make a couple of generations annually.

The only thing that keeps me from buying the air 2 is a fold! The air is the best peace of hardware I’ve owned since the iPhone 4s

I've said this ever since it launched...nobody knows about it.

So is iPhone 17.

That's why most people compare Air with 17 and say the battery life is poor. They don't say "Oh, if we move the goalposts and pretend it's 2022 or 2024, then the Air battery life is good."
The battery life isn't "poor" compared the base 17 at just a few less hours and I think it's still valid to compare the Air's battery to the phones from last year because it's another thing that proves the battery life is pretty decent despite what people who don't own the phone keep telling everyone. I think the biggest compromise most consumers think they can't live without is just having 1 camera. That, and the lack of marketing/brand awareness, is what I think is holding back sales.

Does Apple listen to the people? A second speaker is more sought after. An ultra wide camera is not wanted.
I have both the Air and the 17 Pro Max, and I can confidently say the second speaker isn’t the dealbreaker with the Air. The real limitation is the camera, specifically the lack of ProRAW and features like spatial video, despite it having a Pro chip. If Apple could somehow add a square sensor on the rear that enables an ultra wide and a secondary zoom lens in a dual camera setup, I’d ditch the Pro Max series for the Air in a heartbeat.

The speaker on the Air honestly isn’t bad at all. Most people aren’t blasting their volume like maniacs in public anyway. Yes, the Air sounds noticeably tinnier when you compare it side by side with something like the 17 Pro Max, but on its own, it’s plenty loud and perfectly fine for the vast majority of users. People are seriously overreacting about the speakers.
