Ok .. still love my AIR and it's still my fav iPhone ever. One question.. I noticed while on wifi I have issues with interruptions and pauses while in a room that my 16pro max never had issues in. Is there any reason why this would be the case? I do see the N1 chip is supposed to be improved range and speed over the Broadcom that was in my 16 pro max.

I have been rocking the Air since the official launch day and now have my Apple Watch Ultra 3 paired with it and love the combo package. I was wondering if Apple could somehow fix some of the low volume and ringer issues using a software update? I know it's only a single speaker, but the stuff they can do using software these days, amazes me, just a thought.

I’ve had weird WiFi issues as well and can’t tell if it’s just in my head. My 13 Pro worked fine in my home office when I worked from home, but my Air doesn’t seem to get WiFi reception in that same room. When I’m close to my router, it works just fine.

Several weeks in and I just find it a (pardon the pun) breath of fresh air. I look at the Pro iPhones and I can see the market for them but if you're a professional photographer you're not rocking up a wedding or public event with just an iPhone 17 Pro Max in tow. For the filmmakers I can see how a small, waterproof camera can be useful but it always seems to need a gimbal with all sorts of extra gubbins on to do anything.

I look at the Air and I see a phone not pretending to be something its not. Its not trying to replace a tablet or a desktop PC or a DSLR or a PlayStation. For such a design-focused phone its about as unpretentious as you can get on a modern handset.

Can anybody recommend a slim case for the Air? Minimal bulk but some protection. I don’t want to ruin its beauty too much.
I got some tempered glass back protectors on Amazon and put on an Apple bumper, and I love it. I have about 5 other slim cases but I keep coming back to this combo. I'm also a klutz and have dropped it a few times and it's been fine.

The AT&T deal right now really has me tempted. $2.43 a month for 36 months (for a new line). Or $7.99 for an upgrade. On a $1000 phone, that's crazy. It sure is a sign it's selling poorly though.

I'm going to get one for a family member, but I might get me one too!

It isn't a sign the phone is selling poorly. The carrier is baiting people with the deal because the real money is in the overpriced cell plan they charge.

It's absolutely a sign of that. They always have this blockbuster deal on the worst selling phone. It was the mini and the past few years it was the Plus. However, those deals would be maybe $10 a month with no trade the first winter after release. $2.43 with no trade in I have never seen on a current model $1000 phone. It's wild.

The deal benefits the carrier every single time. If you don't have a problem paying close to $100 a month (after taxes and fees) or more for that line to get the deal, go right ahead.

I have US Mobile and I have an AT&T line with unlimited talk, text, and 50GB hotspot etc. and it cost me a flat $22 / month.

I added my line and it came to $29 for phone payments and service, but I save $15 total on my other lines, so $14 a month for a $1000 phone and the line/service. The family member was paying $40 elsewhere. Now $14 difference for me total and they get a free $1000 phone.

Yes, I pay AT&T a lot already (around $173 now five lines), but adding this one was chump change.

These lowest deals on the worst selling phone are partially subsidized by Apple too (all behind the scenes of course).

Question about the sides and comfort level of holding.

My big complaint on the last few iphones I have had, including the 16 Pro I now have, is that it is very uncomfortable to hold due to the flat sides and right angle sharp edges on the sides. The sides literally dig into my palm and fingers. This was never the case with older phones that had the rounded sides. How are the sides on the Air? Are the sides and side edges any more rounded? Or is it still the same feel as the 16, 15, 14, etc?
I know this is kind of late but for me holding it is feels pretty good. It doesn't make my hand feel tired or anything. The sides don't feel like they are going to cut my pinky and they seem to be more round to me. The phone overall feels so much lighter than previous generations. I have a iPhone 17 Pro and honestly it feels like a brick to me.

I ended up getting the Air and have been decently happy with the feel. The Air is definitely not as good of a design as the iphone 8 or X for example with their superior rounded sides, but its better than the horrific 12 through 17 series and 16 Pro I came from.

Just realized today that the Air has no DisplayPort ability in the USB-C. What year is it again?!?

I found I can work around it by adding an Apple TV between the Air and my monitor, but still…

FYI a wired Apple Magic Trackpad works fine (I tend to use my phone like a PC while docked with a monitor and input device).

That and the lack of telephoto are my only two real compromises using the Air. Telephoto for obvious reasons and the lack of DisplayPort because I sometimes use my MR glasses to watch video. But I need them infrequently enough that the thinness and lightness of the Air are still very worth it. I'm very doubtful that Apple will add a telephoto to the next Air but I have some hope they'll add DisplayPort.

Was a tiny bit disappointed with this as well. I likely would have bought a Nexdock and InfiniteX2P to use with it.

Other than that, I can’t really find a reason I’d use it for anything else.

Yeah this phone is so lightweight that it’s nice to use like a computer on the go. I often hook a monitor up to my phone along with a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and wired Apple trackpad. I can get by at home using an Apple TV to connect to the monitor, but it’s disappointing I can’t use a usb hub.

You’re right though, this phone is so awesome it’s worth finding workarounds. I did a pano photo today since I had no wide angle lense. I see myself sticking with this phone at least until the fold comes out.

There was a few times in the last decade I played around with my phone being my only computer. Previously was with my old 7 Plus. I had a Bluetooth keyboard setup with that. I went all out with my 14 Pro using a lightning-HDMI adapter, keyboard and mouse/trackpad with it. And thats how I found out about InfiniteX2P which is basically just a window manager if you’re using your phone on an external display. Worked really well on my 14 Pro and was waiting for a USB-C iPhone to take it even further with that nexdock. But then the iPhone Air completely spoiled me. I have my iPad Pro for needing anything with a larger screen anyway for the time being.

I'll likely keep my Air for at least 3 years. I really see no reason to upgrade it. I probably could have stuck with my 14 Pro if it wasn’t for the Air.

I was thinking about this yesterday: After having the Air for about two months and being extremely happy with it I realized that I truly don't need a Pro model phone ever again and having the Air has made me realize that. The one camera, which takes very good pics, is all that I need. The single speaker is so good I don't have a need for a second speaker on this phone. The battery is so good that I don't want a bigger battery as that would bring more weight and I like phones as light as possible.

Despite me using my phone a lot of hours per day I don't need multiple cameras, huge battery, or multiple speakers. I don't miss those things at all. I'll bet the great majority of phone users wouldn't miss those things either but they are so caught up in having and paying for every feature even though they don't actually need or use them.

There is a part of me that is thinking I should have saved money and got the 16e. Seriously. I really like the Air a lot and basic specs are more than enough for all day usage for me, but maybe I should have gotten the small phone and saved money. It will be something to consider the next time I get a new phone.

So how does this work, using an iPhone with a monitor/keyboard/trackpad like a computer. Ive never seen this but it sounds intriguing.

Nothing too exciting here. I just hook up a keyboard/monitor/trackpad/mouse to my phone and use it as my workstation. iOS doesn’t allow for much multitasking, but I can watch a video/movie in pip while I’m reading an article/pdf at the same time. I also surf with safari, answer texts/emails, and so forth. I keep my phone in landscape, and the biggest problem is the Home Screen doesn’t rotate, so I launch apps from the control center (use right click on the mouse to invoke the control center). Other iPhones work great because if they are all wired to a USB hub, simply plug it in (I use a MagSafe type adapter) and I can charge/activate all the (wired) peripherals at once. With no display port on the Air, I have to send video output through an Apple TV. Not a big deal, just an extra step.

Had my first proper hands on with the iPhone Air yesterday. Adored it as much as I expected to. If I knew nothing about the differences between all the new models, and was just picking the one I like the most superficially, the Air would win out easily. I’ve had an 14 Pro Max for 3 years now that I use without a case 95% of the time, so the screen size of the Air hits a sweet spot for me. Though the 17 is so much better a value proposition at 6.3”, that little extra width and height of the 6.5” Air did make a difference for me personally. The second generation version of the Air is lock for a purchase. As much as I love the current version, I just cannot justify the $1100 cost after taxes Canadian with trade in. The temptation and pull to the dark side of the force is strong with this one, and I have fallen off the Pro bandwagon. None of the pro features that are missing matter to me, but the cost and value proposition today is just not there. If I used a case with my 14PM, I would have dumped it yesterday, but without a case in pocket all the time, it is second nature and less of a brick and will remain with me until 2027. No question in my mind that the Air will be the next iPhone I purchase, provided  sticks with it.
