The current Air looks more like a prototype for a future phone, rather than the finished article. I’m pretty sure next year’s Air will be much closer to the device Apple intended it to be. Probably a case that the technology needed to deliver a phone like the Air is still a work in progress.

Yikes so the iPhone Air drives traffic to the store, people try it and decide they prefer going for either a base iPhone or going all out and getting a Pro.

Back to the original point, it seems a lot of people did go try the Air, debunking the thinking that “people still need to go try it”, seems the traffic came for the Air but then the money went to the Pros…:
The article seems to add to the mounting reports that Air sales are lackluster (although I wouldn't count the anecdotal story of Jason Purdy as evidence), but I don't think the article said anything specific about physical traffic. It just said that there was more of a buzz (online?) which led to an uptick in iPhone sales. I don't think we can deduce from that whether or not most of those buyers viewed the phones in person.

The iPhone Air has a strong parallel with the first MacBook Air in that it entered the middle pricing tier of a lineup that had a base and a Pro, and prioritized form over function (Pro) and price (base). Eventually the MBA added more function and reduced the price and gained mainstream popularity and so pushed out and replaced the base MacBook, leaving only the MBA and MBP (although the return of a low cost MacBook is rumored). We'll see if the iPhone Air will follow the same path as the MBA, or if it will go the way of the Mini and Plus, or if Apple keeps a 4 iPhone lineup (including the E and not including the 2nd Pro size). The third scenario seems the least likely to me.

For this who update yearly looks like next years choice is

iPhone Pro
iPhone Pro Max
iPhone Fold but also rumours of delays

How would you feel about going

1. Smaller screen £999 Pro?
2. Larger and thicker phone again?

Or will this mean you wait for the 20th anniversary phone also rumours to be thinner in 2027?

I myself have the 17 and the Air. Now we know why it wasn’t called IPhone 17 air!

Yeah there’s going to at least be a air 2 though seeing apples track record unless sales pick up a lot or the air 2 sells amazing there may not be an air 3

Wrong. There’s likely to be an Air 2 & 3.

It baffles me why some on here get so bent out of shape just over a phone model.

Not a surprise really. In the world we live in today regular buyers, i.e the vast majority want value for their money not less.

Value is subjective, more people value the three camera system and bigger battery, dual speakers etc., then the lighter weight, titanium build, and better repairability, also simpler system that the air provides. That just means there was a smaller group of paying customers for those features at what it cost to create than Apple predicted.

I will look into upgrading when a phone gets released with rounded sides again. It will need to be very light weight as well. Open to iphone or Android since the physical design and weight matter more to me than OS or other specs.

I think the battery will be near end of life after a year of heavy use. Almost a full battery cycle a day will yield a short battery life.

I only charge my air about thirty minutes a day, the battery last a long time for me. I don’t notice any difference than other phones. Hyperbole..

Can the battery not be replaced? I replaced the battery in my SE1 which had an even smaller battery than the Air and it lasted me six years.
