The speaker is the Achilles heel of the Air. It's ridiculous to charge a serious premium for such a terrible speaker.

Adding a second speaker to the Air 2 will make a massive difference with respect to sales.

If i had to choose between the cameras and speakers on the Air, lack of 2nd lens would be more important to me because you can use Airpods etc for audio.

That's you specific. Most consumers would value proper speakers given how people use their smartphones.
Well hopefully the Air 2 should solve both these issues and hopefully sell much better. Pricing could still be a problem though, but cant see Apple budging on £999.

Smartphone speakers are almost entirely useless. The main use cases for smartphone speakers:

-Annoying strangers on public transit
-Annoying strangers/family by making speakerphone calls
-Annoying audiophiles by playing music through the world's tiniest speakers
-Annoying loved ones by showing them YouTube videos and Instagram Reels that only you find funny
-Annoying anyone younger than 70 by turning on notification sounds instead of keeping your phone in silent mode

In all cases, you should have used AirPods or AirPlayed to a real speaker. Smartphone speakers are for people either too inconsiderate to use headphones, too indifferent to audio quality to use proper speakers, or too poor to afford headphones or speakers.

By the way, I have an iPhone Air and the speaker works just fine for the use cases above, but we'll pretend like having one more tiny speaker makes a huge difference.

I find it hilarious with all these youtubers banging on and on about "POWER USERS SHOULD GET THE PRO"

No such thing as a iPhone power user ffs, you might play a lot of games but that's about it.

"CONTENT CREATORS SHOULD GET THE PRO"

You mean people who feel the need to document themselves taking a dump? yeah no thanks.

The Air is the best iPhone since the iPhone X, being a pro user means jack s$%t to me and I think people attach too much stature to the iPhone pro model and their wealth, especially in the USA.

Honestly, you’re making assumptions that a lot of the normal apps that we use aren’t battery and processor hogs. For instance TikTok takes up a lot of battery and if you’re uploading even more.

Glad you’re happy with your phone but something being thin for me doesn’t make it revolutionary unless it actually adds more value to my day. I’m a big guy with big pockets, I’ll pass.

I love my air but I still think for most people the standard 17 or 17 pro is the better choice. I've had quite a few people ask me which phone they should get and most of the time I've recommended the pro for a few reasons.
1) They use thick heavy cases for max protection - If you're going to put a 50 gram case on the air it completely loses the form factor upgrades and you're just getting less features for no real advantage.
2) They keep their phone for 4+ years - A pro with a much larger battery capacity may not help them now but when the battery health is 85% are they still going to make it though the day? Also the 8GB ram on the standard is fine now but what features will they miss out on in 2-3 years because it requires 12GBs of ram.
3) They are trading in on AT&T - The standard 17 cost $100 with trade in of 13 or newer, the Air cost $300 and the Pro cost $0. With this pricing structure I see no reason to get the standard 17 or Air over the free pro unless you just don't like the weight of it. (It cost me $170 more to get the air over the pro with trade in of my 15pro but for me it was 100% worth it)
4) They plan to travel - this was specifically my Aunt who's going oversees next year and wants to take pictures of everything. The 8x optical zoom and ultrawide will no doubt come in handy when trying to take pictures of buildings and landmarks.

I agree that this is my favorite design of an iPhone since the X and I love using it from day to day but I also completely understand why its not best option for every iPhone owner. Most iPhone owners I see use a case, and not a minimalist case. Most of the Air cases I've tried completely ruin the feel for me and I've gone mostly caseless for the last month. Your average person is not going to be willing to risk a naked phone to enjoy the form factor of the Air. I think Apple and the carriers could potentially increase sales with better trade in deals and more advertising but the Air was never going to get near the sales of the standard 17 or pro models. A lot of people have adjusted to thicker/heavier phones and either use the phone 2 handed or add a popsocket. As a 1 handed phone user the Air is great but not everybody uses their phone like that.

If a case makes the air thick, then what does it do to a pro? It would be super thick… what a ridiculous argument.

Agreed. An iPhone Air is 3mm thinner than an iPhone 17 Pro. An iPhone Air in a case is….3mm thinner than iPhone 17 Pro in the same case.

I use my iPhone Air without a case and love it, but I don’t understand that argument that you lose the benefit of the thinness by putting it in a case. It’s still going to be thinner than any other phone in a comparable case.

Now slow down and think about it. If someone puts a thick heavy case on their phone how much do they care about thinness? None. Why would they pay more for thinness to throw it in an otterbox?
I love the air as much as anyone but let’s not be delusional and think they every iPhone owner should go buy one.

This doesn’t make sense, you keep saying “pay more for thinness” when in reality most people don’t look at it like this, they just see a thin light phone and realize it will be thinner and lighter even in a case. The people that buy the air are the people that realize how big a pro plus phone is in a otter box.. it is huge, and heavy.. it gets to the point that you can’t carry it in a pocket comfortably.

That's exactly how most people look at, the air is $200 more for less features but you are paying for the thinner/lighter form factor. How else can you look at it? I was willing to pay more of the lighter/thinner profile but the general public doesn't seem to care that much. If they did the Air sales would be off the charts and apple would be talking about what a huge hit it is. The reality is we are in the minority and as much as I love the air its not the best phone for everybody.

I was hoping you could clarify: “Annoying anyone younger than 70 by turning on notification sounds instead of keeping your phone in silent mode.” What magically happens at 70? I’m over 70 and also find it annoying :)

The lack of quality speakers is my favourite iPhone Air feature. The fewer ******s I have to hear having loud phone conversations in public on speaker, the better.

The Air 2 is happening. March 2027. Was always going to be 2027. The rumors of a delay were false. So looks like he will be getting something.

It was never slated for 2027. Ridiculous for you to even try to change the record.

A20 Pro chips were scheduled to come first in September 2026 because of high costs. Then, regular A20 for regular iPhone 18 and 18e once the 2nm process was cheaper.
