I still haven’t read the entire thread. I’m very happy for those of you that will have joy with the iPhone Air. I still haven’t hold it in my hands, but honestly, 6.5” is too much for me. I’ll pass on it. Hopefully Apple will make a narrower, smaller screen iPhone Air (and doesn’t add the mini moniker). With a 6” screen would be more than enough for most people’s regular hands.

See, I think eventually I’ll be able to jump to a 6.1” iPhone, as it’s not much bigger than my iPhone SE 3. The jump from the SE 67mm of width to 71mm of width is noticeable but, I think, manageable, especially if I buy a thin case for it.

And maybe I’ll also be able to accommodate with my hand the new iPhone 17’s 6.3” display, because fortunately Apple has increased the size of the phone mainly in height, not in width, jumping from the 71mm of the iPhone 12/13/14/16e, to 72mm. Yes, it is yet another millimeter, but hopefully the difference in hand won’t be hugely noticeable, again, using an ultra-thin case, or no case at all if what Apple promises with Ceramic Shield is true.

But here are my hopes for a smaller 6” iPhone Air with a width of 70mm or less. That might seem impossible looking at the A19 Pro location and its logic board, but who knows, maybe with the reduction to 2nm for the A20 it may be possible…

As I said in the beginning, even tho this iPhone is not for me, I’m happy for all of you that are going to love it!

A 6" Air with similar width to the SE3 sure would be nice providing there's minimal impact to battery life.

I have baby hands and find the 15 Pro at 71mm (70.6mm) manageable but not exactly comfortable.

Their wordings are backed up by the EU's testing findings, which even Apple doesn't want to have to do and has been forced on them by the EU...

The iPhone Air is Class A for Energy Efficiency, where last year’s Pros were Class B. Huge improvement.

Air matches or exceeds 16 Pro on all battery tests, but less than 16 Pro Max. However, the gap is very close for average use to the Pro Max (~18-22 hours real-world for all).

The Air has a Class A battery cycle life (1000 cycles) vs 800-900 cycles on 16 Pro and Pro Max. Better long term longevity.

Drop tests wise, the Air survived 180 falls from 1m (Class B) while the 16 Pro and Pro Max survived 90 (Class C). Double the survival rate vs 16 Pro models. Matches 17 Pro Max.

Scratch Resistance - Class A. Last year’s models - Class B.

Bend Tests - Outperforms 16 Pro in all tests and was fine over 3000 bend cycles.

1. The iPhone 17 Pro is an incredible phone and a powerhouse for people who want the very best cameras and very longest batteries.

2. The iPhone Air is an engineering marvel, with Pro performance, a great battery, a very good single camera and a beautiful design.

Both can be true at the same time.
We agree, but we will need to real-world evaluate the huge reduction in camera competence from three lenses to one. The new iPhone Air's camera will no doubt be "a very good single camera" in 2015 terms, but this is 2025 and the Pro models now have three 48MP cameras working together.

That's user dependent. Coming from the SE3, the camera system of the Air is already an upgrade for my typical daily use.

I just don't know if the Air will be too wide for my comfort.

That's the only reason I'm unsure about the Air, will it be too big for my hands I keep wondering. Otherwise I think the Air is amazing, wish it also came in 6.1" or so size.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the term “supercomputer” was used in a figurative sense, not literally. It means they weren’t talking about an actual supercomputer (like the giant machines used in research centers). Instead, they were using the word figuratively, as an exaggeration or metaphor, to describe something very powerful or advanced for its size.

Not being a power user, influencer, video / camera professional, social media nut, or other people that live on their phones - I am a casual morning to evening user just checking on emails, text, and making calls like I used to when I had a dumb flip phone.
Well then, Apple have stitched up non-power users because the Air is closer to Pro pricing than it is to the SE, which it should’ve been, considering it’s lack of specs.

Yup, for whatever it's worth, the Air's pricing is maybe $50-$100 more than it possibly should have been, given its single camera, no vapor chamber for cooling, etc. But that would price it in the range of the base iPhone 17. From what I've read over the years, Apple usually prices new products high enough to recoup their development costs, so maybe this is an example of that.

It's fine. Battery life, price and giant screen size are mega dealbreakers for me so I'll pass. There's nothing special or revolutionary here, and people like OP desperate grasping for that in a decent, unspectacular product just proves how boring a company Apple has become.

Would have been a nice stocking stuffer at 5.8" and $599.

I just received my Air case. Way too wide for my liking—somewhat similar in width to iPhone XR/11.

I think a 6.1" Air would be perfect for me. That's probably going to be around iPhone X width or a smidge narrower which I think strikes a good balance.

What’s the lure and point / hype of thin when you still have the camera bump?

I will be thoroughly mind-blown when they can finally ditch the camera bumps on these.

Until then, Pro Maxes for me.

iPhone, iPhone 4, iPhone X, and now iPhone Air are REVOLUTIONARY products.

Everything else has been EVOLUTIONARY.

If you remember iPhone 4 launch - there was no doubt, the very first time you looked at, held, touched an iPhone 4 - there was NO GOING BACK. THAT was the future. The iPhone 3GS was the SECOND best phone in the world after the day iPhone 4 launched, but it might as well have been from the stone age.

iPhone Air is about to LEVEL the playing field. Buy what you want to buy, I certainly support you (especially as a long-time big Apple shareholder). But make no mistake about it - the day the iPhone Air launches, it is sending every other phone in the world (including every other iPhone) to the STONE AGE. That is what an REVOLUTIONARY PRODUCT does.

Which one did you order?

I got the Apple bumper case and it seems very slim.

You can like the iPhone Air, or not like it. Really doesn't matter, or affect me. But the moment I see someone coming out of the gate with "HATERS!" I immediately think they're imbecilic. JFC, people. It's a phone. Relax.

I just got a sub-$10 case from Amazon. Seems just as thin as that Air bumper.

I tried the iPhone 11 without case (75.7mm wide vs 74.7mm on Air) and it’s still too wide for me.

Mind, I’m coming from the SE3 (67mm wide, 144g) so all these phones (including Air) are bigger and heavier than what I’m currently using. I reckon my best fit among the current options is the iPhone 17 (71.5mm wide, 177g).

I’m not sure the cameras really work together only one of them is used at anyone time depending upon the type of shot

It's tough to say that until we've used it lol.

But yeah looks cool

Air from regular iPads was a nice leap! Same with the laptops though the line has been blurred, I think the Air isn't razor thin so much as just like a slimmer Pro but the wedge shape convinced me the whole thing was thinner even though it was tapered up until and including M1.

This seems like similar magical voodoo like jamming all the computer bits in the 'plateau', but perhaps a little less subtle :p

It's literally the second worst phone launching this year. It's specs are behind both Pro models, so it can't be the "best" they've ever released.
its also the second 'cheapest' and the 'third best' depending on your priorities assuming you think Pro / Pro max are exclusively superior in all facets.

The Air has it beat on footprint. And style, iMO.
