14 years since Steve left us, who can believe it has been so long? 14 years without a revolutionary product design, and now we get iPhone Air. Apple coming back to its roots and the haters returning to their hateroots, I love it.

"It only has 5 GPU cores instead of 6! And who would pay that much for 12GB RAM? Turd sandwich."

MORE PLEASE haters. You don't get it, and you never will. If it weren't for Steve, you'd still be running Flash videos on your Palm Pilots in ignorance.

THIS is Apple returning to its core as an INDUSTRIAL DESIGN company. THIS is the future - like it or not, haters. iPHONE AIR.
Cook 🧑‍🍳 already mentioned that Thin was back in and that Apple will be going the Thin Design route for all their future products. Surprised Mr Thin designer Jon Ive is not coming back to Apple 🍎 to help out.

Apple 🍎 fired Jobs in 1985 and then Jobs came back to Apple via Pixar and then Jobs completely revolutionized Apple and the World 🌍 with the iPhone 📱 Maybe Ive will come back to Apple 🍎 and revolutionize it again.

I can see Apple designing a super thin Apple watch ⌚️ or a super thin vision pro 🥽 that will sell out like hot cakes 🥞

Their wordings are backed up by the EU's testing findings, which even Apple doesn't want to have to do and has been forced on them by the EU...

The iPhone Air is Class A for Energy Efficiency, where last year’s Pros were Class B. Huge improvement.

Air matches or exceeds 16 Pro on all battery tests, but less than 16 Pro Max. However, the gap is very close for average use to the Pro Max (~18-22 hours real-world for all).

The Air has a Class A battery cycle life (1000 cycles) vs 800-900 cycles on 16 Pro and Pro Max. Better long term longevity.

Drop tests wise, the Air survived 180 falls from 1m (Class B) while the 16 Pro and Pro Max survived 90 (Class C). Double the survival rate vs 16 Pro models. Matches 17 Pro Max.

Scratch Resistance - Class A. Last year’s models - Class B.

Bend Tests - Outperforms 16 Pro in all tests and was fine over 3000 bend cycles.

1. The iPhone 17 Pro is an incredible phone and a powerhouse for people who want the very best cameras and very longest batteries.

2. The iPhone Air is an engineering marvel, with Pro performance, a great battery, a very good single camera and a beautiful design.

Both can be true at the same time.
THANK YOU!!! people just assume that because its a little thinner, its going to explode from heat. stupidest thing ive ever heard. iPhone 16 pro didnt have any sort of cooling, and had a titanium frame. I dont see anybody raving about how hot it gets. so how is the iPhone air with no cooling and a titanium frame any different? it has better battery than 16 pro, and will largely remain the same temperatures.

I hate the iPhone Air because I want to love it but the single camera, single speaker, and USB2 transfer speed is keeping me in the Pro camp. If the battery is already 16 Pro level, I’d take 15 Pro battery life in the Air in exchange for an ultra wide lens and a second speaker (assuming whatever space those components take up somehow impacts battery size). And price it starting at $1,009 to cover the additional parts and USB3 transfer speed and I’d be all over the Air and stand shoulder to shoulder with all the Air defenders against the unwashed haters pre-ordering 17’s and 17 Pro’s. I’m looking forward to how the Air evolves the next few years and could definitely see an Air in my future with just a few tweaks to the current offering.
The thing about the USB-C port, it all depends how you use it. If you are like me and you use the supplied USB-C cable that comes with your iPhone to connect it to your Mac or other device it's worth pointing out that the cable only supports USB 2 so even if your pro 16 or 17 has the USB3 standard you are still working with the USB 2 speeds. I never really bothered to look into this before so as it turns out I've been using my iPhone 16 pro over USB at the exact same speed limit I will get on the the iPhone Air.. so for me the USB 2 compromise is well a non issue. I'm fully aware those who truly need the speed will have bought a specific cable or us a specific device to leverage that speed bump and that's great. You get the iPhone that right for you. It makes no difference to me personally so that's one less compromise. For me when I think bout it, how I use my iPhone, most of the compromises with exception of the camera setup will never be realised as I don't use my iPhone in a way they will have any impact on me.

Look, I like the Air and the concept of it. I’m just not sold on it not having heat problems and pricing. I think for only $99 more, the Pro is the much better deal imo. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I don’t doubt if Apple sticks with the Air, the shortcomings will be addressed in due time.

Compared to the 17, worse cameras, worse battery, so arguably two of the main features of a phone people look for are downgrades in the Air.

Wireless charging’s slower.

Video recording’s worse.

So, screen size, Pro Chip, weight, Advanced eSIM & depth. What does the Pro Chip even get you?

This comes across as a mishmash, patchwork quilt of a release that’s possibly Apple’s greatest scam.

It should be at most, the same price as the 17. But I think it should be less.

It’s $400 more than the 17 in Australia! Rort.

I'm getting one on Friday :) Buying Apple kit and bemoaning the price always seems to me like living in Nevada and bemoaning that it's hot. We use Apple kit because of everything else it offers, the steep price will never change.

In my case, I don't know if I'll love it (I loved my 6 Plus, hated my X, love my current 12 Pro Max). The battery is quoted 30% longer than my 12PM was new (never mind now) and it did me nearly 3 days between charges.

The cameras ? well, the last time I used the zoom was 2 years ago, can't remember with the UW. I only take pictures of things to remind me (pub/restaurant menu boards, public wifi passwords, part/model numbers on things etc etc), the one lens should see me fine.

Mono sound ? who cares ? as long as it's loud enough to do handsfree calls in my office ... watching videos on a sub 7" screen isn't what you'd call cinematic and if I am, I'd be using AirPods anyway (but then I guess I'm in the minority of people who care about not annoying people on the train etc)

It's not going to be a long term device (like my 12PM turned out to be, it wasn't the plan originally, just haven't seen a reason to upgrade in the meantime) but it'll buy me time over the next 2 years (max) to see what the Fold and the 20th Anniversary brings ... worst case, I hate it from the off and it goes back in 14 days and I keep using the 12PM for another year (the battery still does me best part of 2 days), but I suspect I won't .. it's new and shiny, looking gorgeous and I'm too shallow.

I've also ordered a 17PM for the other half so will be able to compare.

But for $99 more with the iPhone 17 Pro, you don't get a thin iPhone, which is what people who want a thin iPhone want, who don't need Pro features.

I still haven’t read the entire thread. I’m very happy for those of you that will have joy with the iPhone Air. I still haven’t hold it in my hands, but honestly, 6.5” is too much for me. I’ll pass on it. Hopefully Apple will make a narrower, smaller screen iPhone Air (and doesn’t add the mini moniker). With a 6” screen would be more than enough for most people’s regular hands.

See, I think eventually I’ll be able to jump to a 6.1” iPhone, as it’s not much bigger than my iPhone SE 3. The jump from the SE 67mm of width to 71mm of width is noticeable but, I think, manageable, especially if I buy a thin case for it.

And maybe I’ll also be able to accommodate with my hand the new iPhone 17’s 6.3” display, because fortunately Apple has increased the size of the phone mainly in height, not in width, jumping from the 71mm of the iPhone 12/13/14/16e, to 72mm. Yes, it is yet another millimeter, but hopefully the difference in hand won’t be hugely noticeable, again, using an ultra-thin case, or no case at all if what Apple promises with Ceramic Shield is true.

But here are my hopes for a smaller 6” iPhone Air with a width of 70mm or less. That might seem impossible looking at the A19 Pro location and its logic board, but who knows, maybe with the reduction to 2nm for the A20 it may be possible…

As I said in the beginning, even tho this iPhone is not for me, I’m happy for all of you that are going to love it!

Honestly, can't you see that this phone is all about the look? Everything else is blah, blah, blah.

Battery size? It is a smaller phone, of course is going to have a smaller battery.
One microphone? Fewer GPUs? USB2? Blah, Blah, Blah.
Did I mention that it is all about the look?
You like it, you buy it.
You don't, you won't.
If the release of a new phone can hurt your feelings so much, you need a thicker skin... or a better hobby.
I'm going to disagree slightly. While it's a good looking phone I think the MOST important thing about this phone is the weight for a high end phone...I believe there's a huge subset of users who don't want continuously bigger, heavier phones.
