If the air never existed then there would have been a massive uproar about switching from titanium.. it was a psychological play while trying new tech I think.. all the people saying it was too expensive are missing the point. It was never about units sold. And customers don’t care that much about a hundred dollars, that is the price of a dinner these days.. it is more the fact that people know the pro is more recognized and that is why most buy a iPhone. The air served its purpose perfectly. Realize now that so many are so quick to celebrate if the air stopped production, thereby not realizing they are ok with their preferred phone not featuring titanium in the future..
Air owners are happy they have a phone most don’t understand and they think is now truly special.. marketing 101, and a genius chess play apple. We all got played but are lapping it up.

it's crazy that the battery life complaints are from people that weren't buying it anyways.

Anyways, it warms my heart to see the Mini gang out in force!

🙌
Mini gang for life

Bc it's not groundbreaking at all. It is a stripped down version shoved in a tiny casing.

Vindication for those of us who said this from day one.
Stripped down? Why, because it doesn’t have 8x zoom, stereo speakers and a smaller battery? Seriously? That right there is why it’s $100 less. Not everyone wants a heavy cheap feeling ugly phone, the Pro.

Would a pro buyer buy a pro if there is a phone with the same camera? Same specs, but much better design and materials? Or would you pay a couple hundred more for the “best” Apple makes? If you would then… congrats, Apple just raised the price again without anyone knowing in the span of what? Five years? lol…. Hate the air all you want, it's chess not checkers.. lol.

Think there will be another version at least. Probably within the next two to three years. Not expecting to see it launch alongside the 20th anniversary edition.

I never got an air but it was the last iPhone that felt premium. I wonder if we are now entering a phase of dulled down industrial looking smartphones. I know, there are always people who say "it's a tool, you shouldn't care". To that I say there are already plenty of ugly phones for you to choose from but some folks want something a little nice. Not garish--but nice.

A new 5.4 inch mini coming in at <100g and 2 day battery life would sell like hotcakes. But that's too much innovation for lazy Apple.

It’s hilarious and sad when people claim that working within the confines of things like physics and chemistry is “lazy.” Why not make it out of unobtainium and use trilithium crystals to power it forever?

Personally, I would like to see one made out of transparent aluminum.

Told you already: the whole thing is a placeholder.

It exists to plug the gap left by the ProMotion-enabled 17 Plus and to fill that awkward price tier between the regular model and the Pro—because this is likely the final year the “regular” iPhone even launches alongside the Pros.

Apple locks in its hardware roadmap roughly two years in advance, so it’s no surprise the Air feels like a side project built from leftover tooling and whatever expertise was freed up from the foldable program. The cost-cutting methods, the simplified chassis—every bit of it screams “interim model.”

It’s literally designed to be a placeholder.

And then you look at the people praising the Air like it’s some revelation…yeah.

That part is comedy.

This is according to 9to5mac's report:

"The second-generation iPhone Air was initially set to launch next fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. According to The Information, the device was planned to be even lighter than the current iPhone Air and have a larger battery capacity.

Apple was also working on bringing the vapor chamber cooling system that first debuted on the iPhone 17 Pro to the iPhone Air 2. A separate supply chain rumor last week said the iPhone Air 2 may have also had two cameras.
"

"It’s possible the product is undergoing a significant redesign, and one person said Apple could still release the second-generation iPhone Air as soon as spring 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18 and budget-friendly 18e"

If true, and Apple was going to fix all the shortcomings of the first iPhone Air, they should go ahead and release it.
Probably a lie, the Air was never part of next year’s plan.

I’m just really curious to hear people‘s opinions about how Tim Cook CEO extraordinaire after Steve Jobs keeps allowing these floppy phones to come out. What is the thinking about having this mandated choice of tiers and price levels. Such a GD way to have your suppliers go through all the hassle and then have to re-tool because Your genius marketing experts predicted such a boom, and then failed spectacularly. I was at a older lady friends house tonight who is in her 70s and she wants to replace her SE with a newer phone, but the form factors and all screen no button phones are nonexistent now. No one effing listens to customers. End rant.

Mini failed, Plus failed, Air failed. Just have 3 versions of the iPhone: Regular, Pro and Pro Max. How many failures are needed to get the point?
Plus would not fair if it had ProMotion. ProMotion + Big battery are most user’s primary concerns. So it is replaced with the Air, no threats to Pro Max sales, win for Apple, lose for fans.

This is all BS coming from the investor class who are upset about the lower margins Apple is taking in from the Air. Sites like this need to explicitly tell its readers who on the staff is invested in Apple stock. You don’t think it’s a bit strange to see all the hullabaloo over this phone? How many years have people been complaining about the same old phones every year and now people are whining because Apple couldn’t get another lens into the device and the battery life is only as good as the 15 Pro was. You people need to get help there is something wrong with you, seriously wrong.

Every time Apple has tried to sell a smaller thinner phone it eventually gets cancelled or cut short. Clearly not enough people want this from an iphone. At least not in a de-contented version. If the pro max was this thin in the same specs as the current pro max but as thin as the air it would sell just as well.

Havent tried the Air, but ive tried holding the S26 Edge and I must say I like the feel. Its novel and ergonomic to have it be lighter. IMO the mistake lies in cramming less than high-end hardware with pseudo flagship pricing (yea the Air comes with the Pro chip, but less than base 17 battery, camera, and speakers). Its greed killing these devices, not lack of market demand

There are countless silicone cases on Amazon that will fit the Air perfectly. That's a silly reason to not get the Air. The camera argument is valid, of course.
Not on day 1, no. So you either have to wait or use your phone unprotected.

My wife had that happen. We didn’t get the delivery of her apple case with her new phone back in the 6 days. Of course she drops her phone on day 2 only a few hours before fedex arrived and cracked her new screen.

I upgraded from a 12 mini and I am very pleased with the thin and light aspects but a larger screen for my aging eyes. I’m not a camera snob. I just do casual shots, and I only listen to podcasts on the speaker which does not require high fidelity. I had a XS Max before the 12 mini and it was very uncomfortable.
The 12 mini camera wasn’t very good so you don’t know what you are missing. Which I guess is the target market?
