The price is the problem. Its a nice phone in a bubble, but the price is too much considering how much of a downgrade it is from the Pro that is $100 more.
When the cost of a phone is sprad over 24 months as part of a phone plan. Paying $100-150 less for a big downgrade makes the Air even less appealing.

Youtubers hyped it up but i doubt that they use it as a daily driver long term. A bit like with Vision Pro, they all waxed lyrically about it but ended up returning the device or no longer using it.

The Air 2 with 50g and no camera bump - instant buy 🙏

I mean, we're basically in a recession if you remove AI spending. Those who have money are going to go with the iPhone Pro for $100 more. It's way more capable with a bigger battery and advanced camera system. Everyone else is going to go with a cheaper model. The base iPhone this year is actually quite capable for the price, and the SE is a solid device now. Perhaps in a stronger economy this device would do better, but for now people want the best bang for their buck, and the iPhone Air isn't it. It has some cool tech, but most people don't care.
Actually, there is no cool tech. I don’t know if you’d call titanium cool tech.

  • Thin for no reason → Nobody asked for a thinner phone; we wanted longer battery life.
  • Camera bump insanity → It’s like balancing a table on one leg — make it flush already.

It's not a bad device and there probably is a market for it. It's just too expensive for what it is. Phones are not a fashion item, features matter.

That's a shame. I was hoping it would improve year-over-year and eventually supersede the standard iPhones, given that it offers all of their functionality in a smaller build.

This is a bean counter release of a device. The stepping stone that was too expensive but didn't have enough base features.

Its battery wasn't even strong enough to have you enjoy the device....but it allowed the binned chips to be put to use...at the cost of their image.
The battery life is the same as the 16 Pro.

If it had three cameras & two speakers, I'd consider it.

People hate on it, but if design doesn't push boundaries, how do we innovate?

An optional camera would be nice, but at least it's a great main camera. So it bothers me not that much. I have like 20k photos on my phone and over 90% were shot with the main camera.
Two speakers would be great, that's my main pain. It doesn't bother me at all in portrait mode, in landscape it sounds not good. Luckily i use primarily social media apps which are all in portrait or with my Airpods. Still, two speakers would be nice. But that's the biggest downside, I love the Air overall

Gonna be a collector's piece later on, I guess.

I thought once the rumors hit that maybe this was the phone for me. But, too compromised. Wide-angle is super useful to have. Speaker isn't allowed to be that bad either. And it for sure doesn't scratch any itch for the small-phone advocates. It's huuge.

The reality is your phone is now important, and nobody wants a smaller battery, if anything they want more battery.. This was an obvious outcome for a slab phone..

But, given the value isn't in the amount sold, its is value as a test mule for the foldable, apple needed a heap of real world beta testers.. The foldable will sell. If they do it well, and the price isnt to stupid, it will become apple most popular phone. at least most popular high end phone.

Hahaha - what a surprise!

A phone so thin it needs to be in a protective case hence making it a lot thicker and pointless.

Might as well just buy a proper iPhone to start with!

Apple should’ve not released the MVP iPhone air but waited until it was a product that was fully featured.

Obviously they thought:

‘Hey there’s loads of people who will spend $999 on an under featured but cool looking iPhone! I mean it’s only $999, that’s chump change.’

No, there is not.

I think it’s symptomatic of Apple execs now being so rich that they’re losing touch with what regular consumers want.

It’s not just the iPhone Air but some of the advertising has been tone deaf too ie the iPad to crushing musical instruments.

And launching the Vision Pro at $3.5k and really expecting that more than a handful of people would actually buy it.

A reset is needed.

Apple has been working on a second-generation version of the iPhone Air with a lighter weight, vapor chamber cooling, and a larger battery capacity, but Apple could rethink the design.
Too late for these bean counters. Or they thought people would just eat up lack of Pro features, second speaker and vapor chamber for 1000$?

Apple’s Management literally forgot competition exists and thrives, and even gives more features for less buck

It is too expensive for what it is and lacks features IMO. People know what they want from a smartphone and single camera devices with poor battery life and £1k price tags are a hard sell in 2025. Some clearly love the device, but people also loved the Mini and the Plus devices, but they sold poorly and were binned. The Air belongs in that camp and dare I say, a fold would too.

If it had less of a hump and two speakers, it would be much more interesting. Now it's not razor thin, more like The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The pro has a much bigger hump, and is more than twice as thick. It needs a case even more so that is one point why it matters. My wife wishes she got the air instead of the 17pro and keeps hinting she is going to make me trade her!! I love my air!!
