I know 3 people that returned theirs. I don't see who the market is for this. If they'd make a slightly thicker phone with a bigger battery, it'd sell far better than this. If they could do a full 2-day battery, I'd be first in line to get it.

funny how people hate the iPhone Air. I bet a lot haven't even tried to love it.
And some forget that people are different. Not everyone has the same preferences what a phone should do and what not.
I'm really happy with my Air and wouldn't trade it for any other phone. Even sold my 17 Pro Max to buy the Air

Easily predicted, why the heck when we use our phones so much do we want a cut down version, makes no sense.

They should release an iPhone Mega Ultra which has a 7" screen, big battery, 4 cameras, 240Hz screen etc. That would sell like like crazy.
You forgot bose premium speakers with subwoofer power this gotta be in there not an etc

How do you expect a mini air would get double battery life with even less room?
Even if: Why do you think a mini which accounted for 5% sales back in the days, would now sell like hotcakes just cos of magically increased battery life?

Increasing the battery life is not magic. There are many technologies possible. But Apple has stopped innovating, that's the main problem. Everything is now incremental, basically to preserve their 40% margins, rather than actually serving their customer base.

It’s hilarious and sad when people claim that working within the confines of things like physics and chemistry is “lazy.” Why not make it out of unobtainium and use trilithium crystals to power it forever?

It's called innovation! Apple has forgotten how to innovate. Of course the specs I gave are achievable, but Apple cares more about it's 40% margin than actually doing anything new.

Why is it so desirable to have a battery that lasts more than a day and a half about? Is it that hard to take twenty minutes and charge like once a day at minimum? I really don’t understand this argument that seems so important to some.

The reason they don’t use that new sulfide battery tech or whatever is because while it is true you can get much more capacity inside it, the actual battery technology has a much shorter lifespan. So the battery will not last near as long, and Apple realize people don’t really know what they need until you show them. People are dumb for the most part, they think they know everything and everything is a simple answer if only they could see it. This is not the case though in reality. For instance, despite huge battery numbers of some new Android phones, like 7000mah sulfide batteries on certain phones, the 17promax battery is about two thirds smaller but performs almost as good, while lasting years longer fostering Apples perception of quality.

Innovation is not a magic word that makes impossible feats because you used the word.

I'm having a hard time believing this concept any more.

This is the company that released the Vision Pro flop, now this iPhone that is tanking harder & faster than basically all previous efforts, ever.

The only thing wrong, for me, with the Air is the one camera and lack of a second camera (be it wide angle or telephoto). I had one for about 9 days and very nearly kept it but in the end the lack of that second camera killed it. I had no issue with battery life or the one speaker (I never ever listen to anything requiring stereo speakers on an iPhone, the separation with two speakers on a standard iPhone is a joke).

I do find the hate in this thread to be a trifle over wrought especially as a I suspect the majority of the hate is coming from people who have never ever used it for more than, at most, a few minutes picking it up in an Apple Store, and are going by all the hate being espoused by influencers and reviewers. This phone is nearly there and I am happy to pay more for a phone that is lighter, thinner and better built than the chunky, aluminum and ugly current iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. As a side note I have yet to find a single review for any product (whatever it is) matches my experience of the product in question. I read reviews and view videos to get a sense of the size and finish and get the technical specs. Once I have that I try it, if it passes muster.
Hate might be to strong of a word here. Influencers and reviewers are a part of the world and every new phone has to deal with them. It is also important to realize that for many, playing with the phone for a few mins at the Apple Store is enough for them to say nope and select a different phone. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone has different likes, tastes and things they are willing to accept for a certain price.

It's still unclear to me who was actually asking for a 'thinner' iPhone with fewer features that isn't more pocketable than it's slightly thicker, more feature-rich brethren.... it may have not sold in the numbers that Apple wanted, but at least the 'Mini' iPhones had a following and filled a real market niche.

I’m just really curious to hear people‘s opinions about how Tim Cook CEO extraordinaire after Steve Jobs keeps allowing these floppy phones to come out. What is the thinking about having this mandated choice of tiers and price levels. Such a GD way to have your suppliers go through all the hassle and then have to re-tool because Your genius marketing experts predicted such a boom, and then failed spectacularly. I was at a older lady friends house tonight who is in her 70s and she wants to replace her SE with a newer phone, but the form factors and all screen no button phones are nonexistent now. No one effing listens to customers. End rant.
That's completely wrong. Launching a line costs money, and you have to balance it. On one side are the potential elderly women who will buy the model, and on the other are the production costs. If we divide one by the other and arrive at a reasonable price, and therefore a profit, then we can start production. Otherwise, we can hear these needs, even empathize, but no one in their right mind would give the green light to launch the line.

I have a 16e as my secondary companion alone with a 16 Pro Max. Don’t mind having less camera as my sidearm. I did think of replacing the 16e with Air but we are talking about $599 vs $999 for the same role same function…

It is like hiring a junior accounting: same function same performance but one is fat in shape, one is slim in shape. Would you pay double for that?

"and arrive at a reasonable price, and therefore a profit, ..."

Therein lies the problem: Apple's insistence that their 40% profit margin has to be maintained. On a "niche" (i.e. only several million!) phone, why not make 10% margin ? Draw in more customers, maybe not so "niche" in the end!

Oh no, what will Apple do?

Give me a break. In other words, they are going to have higher average selling prices because so many more Pros will be sold.

Who cares.
Right, because they don't pre build any of their inventory based on projected sales demand. Inventory cost money, reduces bottom line profit if it doesn't sell or has to be sold at a discount.

I personally didn't really have interest in the air and I'd have more interest in a mini sized iphone if the battery life could get me through a day. Though still not sure I'm buying a mini over a pro. Mini pro with an amazing camera set up would likely sway me though.

Havent tried the Air, but ive tried holding the S26 Edge and I must say I like the feel. Its novel and ergonomic to have it be lighter. IMO the mistake lies in cramming less than high-end hardware with pseudo flagship pricing (yea the Air comes with the Pro chip, but less than base 17 battery, camera, and speakers). Its greed killing these devices, not lack of market demand
I have also held the Samsung Edge and liked it. And I agree with you about the appeal and pricing of the iPhone Air. But I think the hardware exclusions are the result of true technical challenges. With talk about what might be expected from a Gen 2 iPhone Air as a result of advances in technology, I suspect Apple was just a few years to early with this model.

Just cancel it. The customers have spoken. It's a stupid concept. We ask for more battery life and what do you do? Offer a stripped down phone with lesser battery life and give it to us a Pro prices. And for what? The thinness we've already said we don't care about. You just had to release it anyway, and shocker, it didn't sell. Apple is so braindead sometimes.
