Apple's iPhone Air sold out across online stores in China within hours of pre-orders opening on Friday, the South China Morning Post reports.

Demand for the iPhone Air reportedly surged immediately after pre-orders opened. Apple's online store and the official Tmall flagship both listed multiple color and storage configurations as unavailable within the first two hours of availability, reflecting even higher demand than the device saw in western markets last month. Prices begin at 7,999 yuan (approximately $1,122).

The iPhone Air was introduced globally in September but delayed in mainland China pending government approval for eSIM, which replaces physical SIM cards and enables slimmer smartphone designs.

The launch coincides with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's decision to authorize eSIM trials for smartphones, marking the first time Chinese users can activate a mobile number without a physical SIM card. China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom confirmed this week that they had received approval to begin commercial operations, paving the way for the iPhone Air to launch without regulatory restrictions.

Most youtubers judged the iPhone Air so quickly.
But a month has passed, it turns out to be a great device for most regular non-pro/gamer users.
I picked it up on day one with no regrets, and starting to see a few of my acquaintances using the Air more and more.

Hope this sell well in China throughout its lifespan, really wanna see Apple develop more from this design

I agree best iPhone in awhile and first one to actually wow me and excite me in years.

For battery I get over 24 hours of use (meaning if I charge at 9 am next morning at 9 am Ill still have 20%) and the camera is fantastic for all of my family shots.

The hate is so forced and unbelievably stupid

Yeah so much hate from people who’ve never used the phone lol

best by what criteria?

I showed my iPhone Air to a work friend yesterday and he flipped out. He said the same things that many reviewers have said (and he’s not watching any tech reviews). It takes us back to what an iPhone used to be - not the biggest, heaviest, most performative, but a great design that feels good and premium to hold. It’s not surprising that it sold out in China. It’s different compared to most of the Chinese brands, much like it is different from every other iPhone and that may drive engagement more than how it performs or how long the battery last, imho.

Who is actually hating this phone? People simply point out some of the negatives of the phone and some facts about it. This is not hate. All that really matters in the end is you are happy with the device you have. Not sure why people are so concerned with how others feel about a commercial device.

If the battery life was better, this would be the perfect for me. I had to return it unfortunately :(
I have had better battery than on my iPhone 15 pro or 16 pro.

I did a fresh install after seeing someone say it was better on the air after trying from a back up.

Anyway, this is great news because China wasn’t swayed by awful ignorant western tech YouTubers who bang on about pro raw and what their needs are and not what 99% of users actually use or need.

This should be a lesson to those who watch people like mrwhosetheboss, marques or 9to5mac. Theyre full of £&@!

Meanwhile on Amazon EU the only iPhone that is on stock is the Air. It's also already discounted by 10 %. All other 17 series models don't even have an estimated shipping date.

Forget about the ultrawide, it just needs to have stereo speakers.
I really don’t care about the extra speaker. Much more concern for me about when traveling to not have the camera capability I want. Which would be fine with a 200mp ultrawide which Samsung has had for a while.

I definitely always do a completely new install. I think the whole backup thing sounds great but so many bugs and issues with software all ready it’s like adding on the issues. It isn’t even that difficult to just reinstall some apps and connect iCloud which does most the work for photos, notes and calendar.

A phone is a portable device, so I put a lot of value in its ease of carrying and moving around. So its thin and lightness despite having a big screen is a huge plus for me. Second it is definitely the best in terms of durability. I never use cases and never will so the titanium frame with the ceramic coating II on the front and back has been proven to be extremely durable.

The camera and battery is better then my 14 Pro Max and the screen / selfie camera is amazing.

Have you not been on these forums for the few weeks before and after the AIR launch. People act like the Air killed their family. I personally don't care how others feel (Hell I ordered the new AVP, despite it getting clowned on more than any product I have ever seen).
