Most youtubers judged the iPhone Air so quickly.
But a month has passed, it turns out to be a great device for most regular non-pro/gamer users.
I picked it up on day one with no regrets, and starting to see a few of my acquaintances using the Air more and more.

Hope this sell well in China throughout its lifespan, really wanna see Apple develop more from this design

I feel like most reviews I have seen point to it being the phone to get so long as the camera isn't your main priority. It's the one phone that seems fresh.

Have you not been on these forums for the few weeks before and after the AIR launch. People act like the Air killed their family. I personally don't care how others feel (Hell I ordered the new AVP, despite it getting clowned on more than any product I have ever seen).
I don't read everything about the Air, I would be curious to see actual posts where people express hatred for a device. What I have seen is basically peoples opinions based on the specs of the phone.

Like when Cinderella's step sisters made sure that everyone was aware of her deficiencies.
The differences is this is a consumer product and people review and give their opinions. No one is giving their opinion on your shoe size. And if they were

I would guess the “low demand” for the iPhone Air (as judged by how in stock it is) has more to do with the delayed release in China than low interest overall. Apple expected the Air to release there sooner than it actually did and they had excess stock as a result.

True, the size variant of the "you're loving it wrong" attitude is reserved for disparaging the iPhone mini, but there's a similar undercurrent regarding the Air.

If the battery life was better, this would be the perfect for me. I had to return it unfortunately :(
You must need MASSIVE battery life each day, or running really stressing apps on your phone I'm guessing. With my Air, yesterday it was off the charger from 6am to 10pm, I never charged it during that period, had 6 hours of SoT and still had 55% battery remaining when I went to bed at 10pm. I'm getting the same battery life on my Air as I did with my 16 Pro.

I set my phone up as a new phone and restored from icloud backup for my data though. I think I read if you copy the data directly from another phone a lot of indexing takes place initially which uses a lot of battery life the first week.

I really love the iPhone Air. For version two, I want to see an ultrawide camera with 200mp and as big of sensor as possible. That would make it so could do ultrawide, wide and crop in to 12-15mp for 4x shots.
To each their own. If a phone is going to have a second camera I would want the telephoto as I don't think I ever took a pic using the Ultra Wide lens, but I realize some people do.

I got an Android phone for free via Tracfone so why would I pay money for an iPhone? Same functionality.

“The launch coincides with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's decision to authorize eSIM trials for smartphones, marking the first time Chinese users can activate a mobile number without a physical SIM card. China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom confirmed this week that they had received approval to begin commercial operations, paving the way for the iPhone Air to launch without regulatory restrictions.”

Having gotten my brother in Hong Kong to buy an unlocked iPhone 16 Pro for sizeable discount on the UK retail price (HKK £850 vs UK £999) last year, I was disappointed to find out that it didn’t supports eSIM in the UK, I suspect that this is a hardware restriction Apple manufactured into their no-Air iPhones at the behest of China’s regulators - I hope that next generation iPhone 18 will be be eSIM compatible globally (incl. China & HK).

I use the telephoto for most photos, since it reduces distortion, while wide-angle lenses exaggerate features when close to a subject

In that respect, my iPhone 15 Pro's 77mm telephoto lens is similar to an 85mm portrait lens on a traditional camera.

It also introduces some bokeh to the background without having to revert to software tricks.

Perhaps because, after all these years, Android still is buggy as F, and third-party phone manufacturers still insert their garbage UI overlays onto Android?

Doesn't surprise me.

That market LUSTS for things that are new or different.

It's part of what the iPhone problem has been over there until now ... very iterative and non exciting annual updates don't appeal to this market.

I definitely always do a completely new install. I think the whole backup thing sounds great but so many bugs and issues with software all ready it’s like adding on the issues. It isn’t even that difficult to just reinstall some apps and connect iCloud which does most the work for photos, notes and calendar.
I have very bad authorization 2fa keys stuck in duo app that our workplace used. So i added all the irs, bestbuy, nintendo keys as well.

The worst thing it requires full backup restore to bring back the keys. Unfortunately there is no fresh install and pull keys from cloud, which is the only reason always stopping me from moving phones.

It's funny to me when people say the Air's camera is the worst of the bunch. It has the same lens/sensor as the 17. Is it less versatile? Sure. But with regard to standard photo and video quality, it's excellent. It's not like the 16e that truly has an inferior sensor and lacks things like sensor-shift stabilization. If you rarely use ultra-wide or telephoto (I realize that might be a niche group!), you're still getting a top-notch camera.

Most YouTube videos were made for views. Bottom line is the Air is the best iPhone ever made. Period. If you use your phone as a gaming device or as your professional camera system then no it’s not for you. Those are non issues for 90% of the people.

I don’t want a second camera. I want the only camera to be an ultrawide that will shoot equivalent of wide and 12mp telephoto that would be equivalent to a 4x. At 200mp it would work well.

That’s too bad. Can you not get all the information or migrate to new phone with the old phone to use for verification? Not to migrate data but to manually ensure it all gets moved over by having the original device.

That would be amazing and probably something we will see one day. One lens that can do everything from .5x up to 4x.

Isn’t Apple having Samsung design a lens like that? I think there was an article on MR maybe a month or two ago about it but I don’t remember the exact specifics.

I find it VERY interesting that China eased up on eSIM…like…is China starting to mellow out and become cool all of a sudden or what?

Did the ruling class all get together and have one massive smoke sesh?

Shoulda hit up their boy HazeAndHahmaneez. I woulda showed em the dos and don’ts of puffin on tree, then hit em with some massive vocal skills

I’m not an expert on this stuff but are you sure? I set up my Air as a new device and restored my data from an iCloud backup and it brought over all my keys for Duo and other apps. I didn’t have to do anything on my part to make them work again.
