The new iPhone Air is Apple's thinnest iPhone to date, which means it's also lighter than the standard iPhone models. Apple also switched from titanium to aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro models, resulting in some weight differences. Given these changes, Here's how the iPhone 17 weights compare to the iPhone 16 weights.

iphone-17-lineup.jpg

  • iPhone Air - 5.82 ounces (165 grams)
  • iPhone 17 - 6.24 ounces (177 grams)
  • iPhone 17 Pro - 7.27 ounces (206 grams)
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max - 8.22 ounces (233 grams)
  • iPhone 16 - 6 ounces (170 grams)
  • iPhone 16 Plus - 7.03 ounces (199 grams)
  • iPhone 16 Pro - 7.03 ounces (199 grams)
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max - 7.99 ounces (227 grams)
The iPhone Air is seven percent lighter than the iPhone 17, and 34 percent lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The thin design will make the device feel even lighter than its weight suggests, and it should be easier to hold for extended periods. While it is close in weight to the iPhone 17, it has a larger display.

The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro feature 6.3-inch displays, while the iPhone Air has a 6.5-inch display and the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display.

iPhone 17 is basically a "pro". Best deal there is and that Apple has had in a long time.

iPhone Air is a such neutered phone it's just bad in every way. Drop a few cameras and other components, throw in a bad Apple modem (no mmWave aka 5G UW) and OMG look it's tHiN! What a dEsiGn! 🤣

Has anyone had trouble holding any iPhone for extended periods?

It weighs about 5 paperclips less than the previous iPhone. Give me a break.
Not because of the weight, but the sheer size of the device.

There hasn't been an iphone yet that I'd wished it was THINNER. The original is still the absolute best for fitting comfortably in my pocket with no case on it.

“smart” phones I’ve had vs. a few I was considering … I am sticking with the 13 mini for at least another year. when i need a large screen, I greatly prefer an actual tablet or laptop.

I want to believe that, would make it easier for me. But coming from a plus, I don’t love the idea of the screen downsizing to the 17. The 17 Air screen is just a bit bigger, and it has the pro chip. I don’t like the weight of the pro models;so the weight of the Air and screen size seems like a good balance to me. Will wait and see real world experience.

13 mini still the best

My iPhone 12 mini is 133g, fits in my pocket easily and is easier to hold and use
Yea lets compare significantly smaller screen sized phones. Please lets not be ridiclous. Will be ordering the Air the second preorders open up. I hate how thick and heavy phones are now. Its exactly what I want a super thin and light phone yet with a large screen.

No I will not put a case
No I won't need the magsafe battery
No I don't need 13 cameras.

It really is amazing how much nicer the feel is/was when you have a lighter phone. Remember the 4S days?? I mean sub-5 oz and it just felt oh so right in your hand. As the owner of a 13 Pro Max, I remember my first impression after being ecstatic to get the phone, was literally "holy **** this thing is a lead weight" - I mean, 8-plus oz. for a phone? All the camera tech in the world and that is just stoooopid. Now, 4 years later, I will FINALLY upgrade to something else - maybe the Air is the move, since I seem to be 'weight-sensitive' given my active lifestyle and all :) Seriously, I think it's the first time I won't be buying the top of the line phone. It's time to go lighter and simpler, I think 5.82 ounces with nearly the screen size of the 13 Pro Max (just .2 inch less) is just the right option for me. I can't buy into more lead-weighted phones. I just hope my camera's picture quality isn't a step backwards from the 13 Pro Max. If it's on par or slightly better, I'm done and dusted with the Air.
