I can say the 16 Pro does get tiring to hold with one hand for extended periods
I've never liked the weight of my 14Pro. Looks like the 17Pro is the same at 206 grams. Yeah wrist does get tired for extended use. For some people this can also cause shoulder and neck issues.

Yea lets compare significantly smaller screen sized phones. Please lets not be ridiclous. Will be ordering the Air the second preorders open up. I hate how thick and heavy phones are now. Its exactly what I want a super thin and light phone yet with a large screen.

No I will not put a case
No I won't need the magsafe battery
No I don't need 13 cameras.
Lmao dude, you're nailing it. Exactly what I think. 512 gb black the minute Apple Store goes live.

So the iPhone 13 mini comes in 15% lighter at 140 grams, but also 13 hours streamed video playback, nearly half. To Apple's credit they did make the camera ridge smaller and more rounded than all the mockups, thankfully, but even better would have been to take the bump from the regular iPhone 17. It seems like they finally started hearing criticism though that the camera step makes the whole phone feel bigger. (But didn't bother on the Pros, that segment doesn't care about size and weight, they'll now be lugging around a near centimeter-thick half-pound of Pro Max and still wishing for a bigger screen and battery.)

Not going to get the Air. But will definitely try it out at a nearby store. Looks nice. 17 Pro Max weight has increased compared to my 15 Pro Max. Planning to get it.

Iphone 17 Pros are heavier than their 16 Counterparts. No thanks. I have a 16 Pro Max and that is as heavy as I ever want a phone. I am so actually so sick of heavy iPhones Id consider giving up pro features for the iPhone Air ( Particularly Camera) Keen to see how that reviews.

Fully agree, I really thought the new aluminium body would and less glass / no titanium would mean a much lighter phone, like in the iPhone 7 Plus days. I'm so disappointed it's not lighter.

It is getting time to replace the iPhone 12 mini, which was a replacement for a XS Max that took a dip in the pool. I appreciate the small form factor and light weight of the mini. The XS Max was too heavy. This iPhone Air seems like a good compromise. I also have to wear reading glasses now for, so the 12 Mini is a bit too small despite fitting in my hand very easily. I don't need to have the best camera, since I just take casual shots.
You'll still get the best camera. The UW and telephoto are for more niche situations, and their quality never matches the main camera, which is the one used by people 90% of the time.

The iPhone Air is amazingly light but having to lug around a 5,000 mAh power bank or attach the Apple-branded MagSafe power bank eliminates the weight savings.

By the way, I think Apple should have built an iPhone 17 Plus instead. 6.9" LTPO display with a circa 4,800 mAh battery could have been very attractive to many buyers.

I bet the Air will be especially popular for seniors. My mother is 80 and has the 13 pro max. Not because she's a "pro", but because she needs the larger screen. Even with the larger screen she has the magnification turned up so high that sometimes she can't find the button she need to tap because it's literally off the screen!

Her battery is probably ready for a replacement, but with carrier promos and trade ins, it will probably be a better deal to get a new device instead. I think the Air will really appeal to her for the larger screen and weight (and it's cheaper than the Pro Max too).

Think about it. The Air probably ticks all the boxes for aging seniors.

I have to wonder how much would miss the cameras on my 14 pro if I jumped to an air. Everything else seems like a win to me. I don’t use mmWave and don’t see that changing. 27 hours is fine. The switch to USBc is welcome even if it’s still limited to USB2 speeds.

But that camera…I’m jut not sure. I’m not a photographer by any stretch. I might want to start doing some YouTube videos at some point for fun. I have wireless lapel mics already so I don’t really think the lack of a mic array is a significant issue. I do want the ability to use my camera as a magnifying glass glass so I can zoom in and read the printed labels on the chips to identify them every now and then. But really, do I actually need a pro for that?

The air might just make sense for me. I’m not sure.

Of greater concern is the direction Apple is going with the software. This cycle is the first time I have hated the entire OS refresh cycle. I hate the new iPad os. macOS still has lots of dumb visual decisions that make less efficient use of space. The large radius of each of the new window corners is also ridiculous. WatchOS keeps killing my watch mix randomly and it’s ugly. And then there’s iOS. iOS is incredibly annoying with the space wasted on the top with messages app, intruding into the chat area. Siri is so much dumber than she’s ever been. And with all the bugs I’ve reported in feedback, I haven’t received a single response back the entire time.

So I’m unsure if this is a platform I want to throw money into anymore.

Now do the 13 mini
😆
The iPhone air is so crazy thin and light that it only weighs 14 grams more than my 13 mini!

Only 5g less than a 16. I was expecting more of a difference tbh.
But don't forget it has a bigger screen, halfway to a 16PM. If you're fine with your 16 screen size, it's probably not worth getting an Air for you. I think it's more for people coming from a PM who are fed up with the weight and don't mind a slight decrease in screen size.
Thinness is probably a draw too, so anyone who wants thin.

The Air has a nice physical design, but everything else is a lot of tradeoffs. It's $100 cheaper than Pro, for less GPU cores, worse camera, no lidar, single speaker, worse battery life, less brighter screen, no fast charging...

But it's thin and light... And a slightly bigger screen vs 17 Pro, but almost every other stat is worse.

We're back at stainless steel weight again...

The 17 pro has the same weight as the 14 pro...
yeah. what gives ? The 14 pro is a brick. And now we hear the 17pro is the same weight. I'm really torn between the lighter Air and the better camera of the pro. Coming from a 14pro I'm not sure. But the 14pro weigh a f-ton especially in summer when wearing shorts. And i'm not wearing a body cross over strap lmao.

newflash - you don't have to lug around a 5000 power bank. That's the whole point.

same here. I have a 14pro mmwave - ? what's that lol never used it. I turn off 5G on my phone anyway. usb c is nice usb 2 speeds make no difference. I use the camera a lot and this is the main reason to consider the pro over the air. Also the loss of stereo speakers, not sure if that will make a big real world difference. But I can defo see the benefots of the air over the heavy pro

I don't understand the move from premium materials like Titanium on the Pro models to aluminium, which is far less premium and utlimately not as durable, either.
It's a step backwards, while expecting a premium in the price stakes.

They mentioned the thermals in the keynote, but I think it's also because keeping a titanium frame and increasing the battery size would have made the Pro models untenably heavy.

I'm still undecided between the 17 and the Air. The Pro is just too heavy for my taste.

I'm not surprised, but I was disappointed to see the 17 went up in weight from the 16. The 16 is about as heavy as I want to hold. We'll see if I can notice the difference.

The Air is such a wild card. I will be curious to check it out. I miss the hand feel of lighter iPhones from previous generations.

Hi

what do you actually mean when you say "premium materials" and
"far less premium"

and "a premium in the price stakes"

??
