AppleInsider publishes some information released to some developers this week about how they can submit their iPhone/iPod Touch applications to the iTunes App Store.

Applications are submitted via iTunes Connect and do have an absolute size limitation of 2GB. Apps can be limited to specific geographic regions, and information about iPod Touch compatibility and game content ratings can also be specified.

While Apple does give a wide range of pricing options, pricing is restricted to between $0.99 to $999.99 with increments ranging of $1 to $100 depending on relative price differences. Alternatively, applications can also be given away for free. Only a handful of developers have publicly announced specific prices for their iPhone applications, but it appears iPhone games are starting to settle around $9.99.

AppleInsider suggests the iTunes App store will launch on July 11th alongside the iPhone 3G. This date has also been reported by AppleGazette.

The only thing that a bit bothersome is that with GPS anyone (to some extent) can know where you are, as well, one can imagine that they could listen to calls maybe (reverse engineering) as well as see what you are doing (on-line) and the phone becomes like one big walking (okay small) Billboard/Yellow Pages, Advertisement.

As it is now you can hardly watch anything online without a commercial, I think the iPhone has the potential to be a bit more invasive.

Hope not.
;)

^^^ don't worry, all you'll need is a tinfoil hat and you're all set.

I doubt we'll see anything priced as high as $999.

2 GB though? I hope that we won't be seeing many Apps at or near that size. My poor 16 GB iPhone- how will it deal with such large Apps?

Not uncommon for medical software packages (usually a multiuser type of price)

Exactly what I was thinking, especially after the key note, books alone are hundereds of dollars, software like that (shown at keynote) will be at the high end..plus any school software.

Can't wait to see audio/video software training and app's.

The "BAND" shown and app's like that might be very good for laying down scratch ideas - - and will not be surprised to read so and so (or me) wrote their (fill in blank) hit song on the iPhone.

:)

They can already know where you are through cell tower triangulation, and they can already know what you're doing and who you're talking to though your voice/data records. GPS has sweet f-all to do with data transmission in or out of the device, it in no way means anything you do can be spied upon via it. The device knows where it is, not the other way around.

I wonder how many games will we see worth the $10. Once you get over $5 the games need to have more depth than your typical popcap game. Look at games on the DS for examples of good ones.

I believe he was talking about friends being able to locate you. Jobs talked about the feature very briefly during the keynote. I know Helio already does this, but I don't know how well it works.

I hope that someone comes out with some fun English and grammar iPhone games for $9.99..... :D

LOL!

I just hope that developers don't charge an arm/leg for applications. I am not looking forward to the prospect of spending +$100 for iPhone applications, as it will be incredibly tempting...

If developers start coming even remotely close to pushing the 2 GB limit... Wow. Just wow.

Gonna need a bigger phone.
