I wish they had a list of applications that will be tentatively available at the opening of the AppStore.

Eh, $9.99 is a little steep. $4.99 is better, because really it's on a 3.5" screen.

Yeah a Wii game is $9.99 - but, my Wii is on a 1080p 60" plasma not a 3.5" 320x240 LCD.

$4.99 is better.

If you're saying what I think that you're saying, they're protected with FairPlay DRM, which makes it a little more difficult than sticking them on the internet for download.

Wow, that unbreakable veil of DRM that no human can surpass.

Temporary obstacle.
Even the latest iTunes bought music can be cracked now and they just released an update.

I'm really interested to see what prices the apps settle in at. I believe the $9.99 price point is going to become very popular.

wow guys can you stop it now.

Hey, don't sweat it man, apparently those guys can't read...

When I'm Czar of the World, I'm going to get rid of this "99" marketing trick. I get it, it's "not ten dollars", sheesh. You're not fooling anyone.

I'd ask you all to vote for me to be Czar of the World, but as you know, you don't vote for czars, you obey them.

The only thing that a bit bothersome is that with GPS anyone (to some extent) can know where you are, as well, one can imagine that they could listen to calls maybe (reverse engineering) as well as see what you are doing (on-line) and the phone becomes like one big walking (okay small) Billboard/Yellow Pages, Advertisement.

With the exception of emergency services, no one has access to your location unless you specifically allow them to.

I wonder how many games will we see worth the $10. Once you get over $5 the games need to have more depth than your typical popcap game. Look at games on the DS for examples of good ones.

Agreed, though I suppose if the games do take advantage of the iPhone itself being a controller then that could help set a difference between $5 & $10 games. Though you can still end up with some very average games.

$9.99 for games wouldn't be bad compared to PDA software prices. When I had my Treo, I remember most Palm OS games costing in the $20-30 range.... sometimes $15 when on sale/etc. And those games were usually pretty primitive compared to what should be possible with the iPhone.

Quoting myself... but has there been any indication that you can save the installed apps somewhere like your iTunes library so that if/when you update/replace your iPhone you can reinstall them without having to pay for them again? I am assuming this is what Apple is getting to with using iTunes?

Always a PITA when you get a new cell phone and you need to download everything again and pay for it... again!!

Completely agree. I hope we see something like this in the near future being mass made and readily available. Then games can make full use of the screen for graphics (which would put it around the same size as the PSP, my personal fav) and have the accelerometer and external buttons for controls. There's a lot of potential there...

Long live the Czar!!

I hate that too. And people I know still go for it too, even though they've endured my rant on the matter already: "Oh, it's only $14!" no, it's $15, "No, see, it says right there, $14.99".

In one of my few retail experiences, I had a guy ask me how much something was. I said, $22. He said, "Are you sure? When I called in earlier today, the girl said it was less than that." and I said, Oh that's right, it's $21.99. And he smiled smugly and said "that's more like it"

Boo to prices ending in .99!

But even worse than that is the random-cent pricing, like at Walmart.
I don't shop there, but I have done price comparisons with a local store to make a point to family (Walmart prices come out about even with Zellers in Canada). And Walmart will charge something like $13.27 for something, making it look like they've shaved off every penny they possibly can... but the same product at the competition (In my case, Zellers) was $12.99

Sneaky buggers.

I hope that someone comes out with some fun English and grammar iPhone games for $9.99..... :D

I hope someone comes out with an iPhone game for $9.99, a WiiWare game for $9.99 ,and an English and grammar iPhone game for $9.99. I could get 3 games for $30!

I would really love to see the iPhone/iTouch become a new peripheral, such as a combo keyboard and trackpad for my mac and a remote for my TV

would it even be possible?

Surely there is an exception for hypocrisy right?

You took the words right outta my mouth! I hope there a good "DALE"!:):D
Where do you hope there's a good deal?
