I wonder what the workers do all day at that facility?

Sh*tposting on MR to try to not lose their jobs? /s

I mean, they could just exchange the CPU's and GPU's for newer ones, and it would be okay.

Excelent!

If Apple starts manufacturing phones in the US means cheap Chinese smartphone stay at bay because their parts aren't worth the manufacturing costs.

You don't live in this universe, do you?

This is from CNBC even!

This is Mr. Trump and the Softbank guy, on Trump Tower, NYC.

So, this is completely President Obama's, right?
This is a photo op. The deal was in the works well before Trump got elected. Lay off the kool-aid.

I hope someday its an American company who makes the products not a Chinese company in the us making the product so this is a HALF STEP in the right direction...
So it's ok for consumers of other countries to buy US made products but US consumers should only buy American made products?

Then why isn't he with Obama?

The current US President?
I don't know. But the idea that SoftBank magically decided to spend $50B in the United States because Donald Trump won the election is nonsense. Also not all of that investment is coming from SoftBank (some is coming from the Saudis) and there are no hard details on the alleged 50K jobs. Of course in Trump land details don't matter. All that matters are big numbers and photo ops.

Crazy, Chinese workers are paid $2 an hour, while minimum wage in US in $7,25.

We don't need more expensive phones or poorer people without a job.

I don't want to buy a Samsung, but this is a decision that could change my mind.

What does this have to do with Apple. Apple is not Foxconn's only client.

You've basically got Rush Limbaugh hoping Trump turns into FDR so Republicans can be in power for 40 years. He called Obama's stimulus bill "porkulus" but now is all on board with Trump's shovel-ready projects. People have basically given up their soul and everything they believe to pimp for this guy. It's disgusting.
I think Trump can legitimately take credit for whipping up a climate that is hostile toward companies favoring taking their manufacturing to China and friendly toward companies bringing jobs back over here.

He's a showman and surprisingly good at it, considering he whines and fusses more than my toddler great-nephew. He's not really done more than put a face to a grassroots movement among the disaffected middle class that has been building at least two election cycles ago, starting with Sarah Palin being the first face of it, in my opinion. But it's enough.

It's not Trump that Tim Cook would be influenced by, but public sentiment. And Trump's shocking ascendency to the presidency despite all the barriers in his way, including his tripping over his own ego, is a huge wake-up call to CEOs that they can't continue to ignore and take American citizens and American consumers for granted anymore.

I so badly wish I could have been invisible in the room when Tim Cook took Trump's call. I would have loved to have seen his facial expressions and his reactions after he hung up the phone! Lol. I would love to see an SNL skit of it!

Well if the Foxconn chairman is not enthusiastic about it, why is Foxconn doing it? This article doesn't make sense.
what? its called business...
Lower profits are still profits.
[doublepost=1481121658][/doublepost]
Future iPhones are about to get a lot more expensive...
Or stay the same... Profits are good enough, just look we have had 3 iphone 6 already in a row to prepare for the loss of some profits in the future lol.

Ok, so what did Trump give up in this deal? If it's anything like the Carrier deal then the American taxpayers just got pwned. Carrier deal: $7,000,000 in tax breaks over ten years to ship 1,200 jobs to Mexico and leave 700 American jobs alone, with a guarantee those 700 jobs remain here for two years.

If President Trump can lay a legislative policy foundation to incentivize American manufacturing while he makes ad hoc deals for cameras then great, he'll have earned my admiration. If these deals are all Trump does then it will be a superficial photo-op presidency.

So far we've heard no substantive policy proposals to keep jobs in the US. A 35% tariff on US manufacturers who outsource isn't a policy, it's a talking point. If only American business get nailed with the tariff for outsourcing then foreign companies will enjoy quite an advantage, won't they? Corporate tax cuts, while probably a sound idea, will need to be paid for. Does their tax burden shift to tax paying citizens? Or does Trump go the standard republican president route and run up deficit bigly? Or does he kick seniors into a voucher con for social security and medicare, forcing them to move in with their adult children or live on cat food?

Trumps historical business practices are the tell: he's a con man, a fraud, a blustering bully who habitually stiffs contractors, breaks unions with illegal immigrant labor, and repeatedly uses bankruptcy as a get out of jail free card. If he governs America in the same way then economic calamity will ensue.

Let's face it. Many Americans won't give Trump any kudos whatsoever no matter how much it helps the US and/or our economy. You know, like the way so many people derided Obama no matter how hard he tried to do positive things and even when he actually did positive things.

So, I'm going to give Trump my support when appropriate. Bringing manufacturing back to the US is always a good thing as long as it makes market sense. Aren't you tired of seeing able bodied adults in what use to be jobs for teens and the mentally challenged?

So things already in motion that Trump will take credit for. Just like the SoftBank announcement which we have very little details on. And the kool-aid drinkers will lap it up. Just last night on Fox News that clown Corey Lewandowski said people are allowed to say Merry Christmas again because Donald Trump was elected. This is the delusion of the Trump sycophants. They put Obama's hope and change brigade to shame.

Liberals are losing their minds, getting deliriously dizzy trying to spin good news into bad. And I LOVE it!

So much spin and so much butt hurt.

Trump supporter here. I give full credit to Obama for what he did with the auto industry and saving our economy.

It works on both sides - just because we have different views on how to fix things, we all want the same thing.. to see america be strong and successful no matter the leadership it's under.

I'm actually an independent. I just sided with Trump this time around. Hillary struck a nerve with me.

QFT. Trump's followers will believe it without a single question. The truth is no longer welcome.

That would be President Elect, soon the be President Trump.

Obama and Moochie hate America.

Apple is by far the largest client of Foxconn and it doesn't take a genius to figure out what motivated Foxconn's move to the US. Are you really that dense or are you in denial?
