AT&T sent out emails to customers today which reveals that they are limiting iPhone sales to "one per person"
There goes my family plan! I was going to buy 6 of them for my wife and kids! ;) ;) ;)

5AM? Honestly, Isn't this a bit extreme? You're going to wait in an outdoor line for 13 hours? I can't really criticize you for wanting the phone as I do as well, but I'm just not willing to sacrifice an entire day to get the phone on Friday. I wish you folks that are going to extremes would be slightly more reasonable so the rest of us that have **** to do actually have a chance.

I am taking the day off to buy an iPhone.

I am planning to go to my local Apple Store at 5am. If the line is too long I am planning to go over to a new AT&T Store that is near my house.

What I am hearing on this thread I should be in good shape in getting the iPhone...:)

um

I can't wait to see the numbers.

I bet Apple won't put an "X iPhones Sold/Activated" ticker on their site--even though it would allow them to put their money where their mouth is...

Honestly, I can't imagine any store running out. I bet the gross sale is probably 5000 or so on the first day.

On the side, I prefer having something that other people don't have. Where I live, I'll be hard-pressed to run into anyone who actually has one so that's fine. But, I am not looking forward to running into a constant barrage of people with the same phone as me.

There are so many pro's and cons... to this thing. Wow.

If you want it that bad then go earlier, if you have other things to do then surely you could wait a few more days.

Oh no, I wan't one. Bad. But I have a job that holds a bit more importance than flipping burgers at McDonalds and unfortunately have to give that priority over purchasing a cell phone. I can leave work a few hours early, which I would normally think is sufficient but when you've got crazed fans setting up camp before I've even woken up that morning it's a little on the frustrating side.

Either way, do what you want, I just wish Apple would have made pre-orders online a while back for those of us that have important things to do but also badly want to get their hands on the phone.

Hey, don't diss yourself and your job. At least you get up and go to work and have a job, right? ;) More than a lot of other Americans can say for themselves.

You really have nothing to worry about. Those camping people will realize that they really didn't even need to get there as early as they did to get the damn thing.

Also, it's not worth getting off early if it's not convenient for you. There will be PLENTY FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS ONE.

Save the stress for other things like your first bill. Remember, this phone is supposed to make life more enjoyable. Let it be just that.

price without a plan?

I remember some rumors a while back that said if you buy the iPhone without a service contract it was going to be $999. Is this still true?
What I don't understand is how this all fits in now since everyone will be activating the phone from home.
Will everyone have to pony up $1k and then get some sort of rebate?
Or, what happens if you purchase it for $499 or $599 and never activate it??

I seem to remember SJ saying he was just hoping to sell 10 mill by the end of 2008. I also seem to remember reading that the first shipment is only 1 million but they will come weekly. I expect that if first month hit 3 million sales, they (APPLE Inc) should be very happy with the launch.

10 milliion is only 1% of the cell phone business. I don't think you will have to worry about running into too many iphone people on the street.

Curious

I'm curious...

I'm having problems with the AT@T plans. I rarely get text messages. I would only use the internet and occasional phone calls. $60 bucks a month is too much for me. I would pay for the phone but would rather use my airport connection at home or in a coffee shop with free wiFi rather than pay AT@T.

If they had a T-Mobil plan for about 30 bucks a month that gave 300 minutes and I could use WiFi only that would work for me and I would consider it. I have several Macs and at this point I'll wait.

I took my sister today to but her first Mac at the :apple: store in Somerset Mall (Troy MI), and I am concerned for Friday. The employees had a hard time getting the Macbook out of the back and the correct Ipod, they were very disorganized. Perhaps it was the nonstop phone calls regarding the iPhone they were fielding, but if this is how it's going to be on Friday, I for one will be heading to an AT&T store. Also, the cashier told me that the AT&T store on Woodward already had 50 people in front of it this morning.

5000?? um... so average of 100 per state? or 2.5 per location that has them going on sale?

sounds reasonable

Are you counting North Dakota? South Dakota? Montana? Idaho? Alaska? Wyoming? Nevada? Nebraska? You need to check out the coverage http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/ and see how many people in those states are in a hurry to stand in line to buy iPhones on the first day they come out. That frees up about 800 units there with just those states that have little to zero concerns with selling iPhones or ATT phones, due to extremely limited coverage.

Hell, I will buy you a 4 gig iPhone if you can prove to me that 100 iPhones were sold out of ATT stores and Apple stores in the entire state of Nevada, between Friday, June 29th at 6pm, and Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 6pm. I'm dead serious.

Next time, chose your units more wisely. e.g.: thinking of big cities. If you can name 50 large cities that will sell at least 100 units on the first day available, then you would have weakened my argument.

edit: Also, check out the meetups. You will see that they are highly concentrated in certain areas... big cities. I know that not everyone is enrolled or comments on MacRumors, but it's a decent enough measure. And except for Nevada (maybe Idaho I have to look), none of those states 8 states are represented.

Seeing as there is really no way to get this information i have no way to test your logic. I don't know exactly what the official numbers are, but MacRumors had a story I believe that said roughly 2000 store fronts would be selling the phones on launch date. Perhaps there won't be lines in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming, Nevada, Nebraska, but non of those states contain cities like Chicago, Los Angels, New York, heck even cities as big as Detroit, Houston, or Miami, however Nevada does have Vegas.

There are currently about 58,000,000 AT&T subscribers, I'm very confident that more then 5000, and more then 100 in Nevada, will be sold in the initial 24 hours

Have you looked at the coverage in Vegas? I think they will have no problem selling thousands within that CITY alone, much less the whole state. They even have 3G coverage in vegas, looks like out to the hoover dam.

I cannot believe this discussion on Nevada...are you people still thinking we live like Sundance? I have no problems with coverage here when driving N, E, S or W. Las Vegas is approaching 2 million residents and there are 4 AT&T stores within 3 miles of where I live and that is on the edge of the city limits. The Apple store is in a Mall on the strip and they will probably sell more to visitors in one day than many stores do to locals. I can't comment on the other states listed but somebody's logic is warped...:)
