Good deal - I'll encourage every to go out and get one - unless you're in south fort worth. In that case, stay home, it's not worth it. Read the comments on here and you'll certain decide to hate it :-D hahahah

Are you counting North Dakota? South Dakota? Montana? Idaho? Alaska? Wyoming? Nevada? Nebraska? You need to check out the coverage http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/ and see how many people in those states are in a hurry to stand in line to buy iPhones on the first day they come out. That frees up about 800 units there with just those states that have little to zero concerns with selling iPhones or ATT phones, due to extremely limited coverage.

Hell, I will buy you a 4 gig iPhone if you can prove to me that 100 iPhones were sold out of ATT stores and Apple stores in the entire state of Nevada, between Friday, June 29th at 6pm, and Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 6pm. I'm dead serious.

Next time, chose your units more wisely. e.g.: thinking of big cities. If you can name 50 large cities that will sell at least 100 units on the first day available, then you would have weakened my argument.

edit: Also, check out the meetups. You will see that they are highly concentrated in certain areas... big cities. I know that not everyone is enrolled or comments on MacRumors, but it's a decent enough measure. And except for Nevada (maybe Idaho I have to look), none of those states 8 states are represented.

i would love to take you up on this offer...

warped

I cannot believe this discussion on Nevada...are you people still thinking we live like Sundance? I have no problems with coverage here when driving N, E, S or W. Las Vegas is approaching 2 million residents and there are 4 AT&T stores within 3 miles of where I live and that is on the edge of the city limits. The Apple store is in a Mall on the strip and they will probably sell more to visitors in one day than many stores do to locals. I can't comment on the other states listed but somebody's logic is warped...:)

No, but I'm certain that there are not 100 people in the state of Nevada who are dying to wait in line to buy an iPhone between the hours I noted in my original post.

The logic I used to reach my conclusion has nothing to do with coverage. It has to do with interest.

If Ha Ze can point me to any verifiable proof that that many units were sold in Nevada, I will paypal him the 499. I'll be watching Vegas news.

I'm just as excited as everyone else, but buying a phone requires much more consideration than just going and picking it up--especially this phone. It's going to take a lot longer than 24 hours for sales to pick up because you have service considerations, plan considerations, financial considerations. With the Wii, for example, you just buy one, take it home and plug it in. There's no switching of carriers.

I can list many more premises if you want.

Ha Ze, you're on.

If you think of it in broader terms, such as total cash outlay, the cost of doubling the capacity isn't that bad. It would suck to get the smaller one and in a couple months, wish you had more space and be stuck with the smaller device for two years. I don't know if they will allow you to trade-up to the bigger one within two weeks of sale for $100 or not. The longer perspective is one reason I'm holding out, I want a faster mobile network. I'd rather be six months or a year without an iPhone and get a 3G unit than stuck for two years on a smart phone that does about twice dial-up.

Seeing as there is really no way to get this information i have no way to test your logic. I don't know exactly what the official numbers are, but MacRumors had a story I believe that said roughly 2000 store fronts would be selling the phones on launch date. Perhaps there won't be lines in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming, Nevada, Nebraska, but non of those states contain cities like Chicago, Los Angels, New York, heck even cities as big as Detroit, Houston, or Miami, however Nevada does have Vegas.

There are currently about 58,000,000 AT&T subscribers, I'm very confident that more then 5000, and more then 100 in Nevada, will be sold in the initial 24 hours

I freed up 800, and now with Wisconsin off the list according to the Apple site, there are about 900 units that could be sold in these other places.

You're on Ha Ze. I'll be watching the local news, so I'll be able to let you know how well they do in Vegas and Reno.

I just don't think Apple would under estimate the initial demand as drastically as it seems (to me) as your making it. even without those states, it leaves 41 states that need to sell an average of 122...

Why would Apple be staying open till midnight if they were only going to sell about 5000 (nationwide)? I'm not trying to put you down personally at all, I just think that your numbers are off. If you don't think Las Vegas wont sell 100 how many do you think Chicago will sell?

I don't know how to check these numbers, but I'll find away lol

Vegas store sold out this morning at about 9:15AM. They only had 25 left when it opened for more than 100 in line at the time. They ran out last night at about 9:00PM and restocked overnight apparently.

Local At&T store (1 of many, many in LV) sold out at 7:15 last night with over 150 in line. I am sure all the other AT&T stores here also sold out last night.
