srry if this question has been asked. but to avoid the long time of transferring purchases. i just got my new imac can i just rebuy beatmaker from the app store on itunes? (i bought it via wifi on from my phone the 1st time) with out being charged again?

If it's an updated version on iTunes since you downloaded it on your iPhone it will still re-sync it. I would just let it transfer from the phone back to iTunes.

I haven't tried but I read in other threads that it warns you that you have already downloaded it and let's you do it again without charge. Again - I haven't done, just read about it.

I'm getting frustrated with the long back ups. First, iTunes spends about 5 minutes on the Syncing "iPhone" message before it even starts backing up. The the backup takes about a half hour.

I'd restore my phone, but I don't want to lose some of my application data. It sucks that the only fix I've heard so far wipes out all my data. I know they're just games for the most part, but I don't want to lose my progress on all of them.

At this point, I'm not sure there can be a fix that will let me keep that info. I wish individual app data could be backed up or uploaded directly to an ftp site.

Here's a fix: (for Macs at least)
This edits a config file for itunes that bypasses the "backup" portion of the sync. So it only syncs.

1) Quit iTunes.
2) Open Terminal.app.
3) Type (or copy and paste) the following command, and then hit Return:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
4) Open and run iTunes.

It worked for me, no reason it shouldn't work for all.

But if you want to enable backups again, just change true to false and that will enable the backups again.
So type this in the terminal instead:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false

(From: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/...backup-process-to-speed-up-slow-sync-process/)

This is just insane, it took me 30 minutes for my iPhone to sync and there was nothing added or removed, so the sync should have only taken seconds.

Apple needs to fix this!

There's this button....

alright, so like in itunes, when it says Backing Up "______" there is an "X" button on the right of that. When you click it, it stops the back up &just syncs what you want to be synced. :D

I see no such button.

Is it possible that you're only talking about the Mac version of iTunes, or something like that? I think you're making it up :p

I have changed my iTune settings:

Edit -> Preferences -> Devices tab

Ticked the box that says "Prevent iPod, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically."

I don't know if that has fixed the problem, we will have to see. But i do have some notes to add to clarify things:

* The long backups definitely are not related to downloading new Apps - i think they happen when you change *anything*. I haven't downloaded a new app in days; i've actually been making up wallpapers and adding photo albums onto it, and I have had this problem every single time i have connected the iPhone to the computer.

* I have a feeling that part of the problem is Apple's inability to communicate what is happening when you click a particular button or option (also known as "user friendliness") - so when they say "stop automatic syncing", they use "syncing" to mean "both syncing and backing up", whereas when they say "Sync" (or, for some reason, "Apply" (and wtf is that about?)), they mean "just syncing".

At least i am hoping that this is the explanation.
